...the third option for healthcare IS the public option. It let's each American choose between a private insurer's plan OR a public plan like medicare. And beyond that, it lowers the price of the private insurer's plans because it offers competition (if they don't stop screwing their customers, they know those customers will just leave them). It puts the decision in the hands of each individual American, instead of it being in the hands of insurance bureaucrats OR government bureaucrats.

I worked for health care companies from 93 to 01. Do you know how insurance works? They take the money from productive members of society that do not get sick and redistribute those premiums who do get sick. While skimming a lot of money off the top. It is socialism but you volunteer for it. This legislation sucks but at least come up with a good reason as to why it sucks.

Did you ask the employees of the companies you sold insurance to put their money where their mouth was? The companies share of employees insurance cost gets passed on to customers. Shouldn't you on moral grounds asked the companies not to pay for the insurance and make the employees pay for it? You were helping people to get other people to pay for their health care. Or Canada, Germany,Japan, or Australia. Or any other industrialized nation. You do realize half of the US is underinsured or uninsured. I would have to say it's in the best interest of the state to keep half of it's population healthy.

I have health care, and don't forsee that I would be unable to afford it in the future. However, I don't think I'm automatically more worthy of living than those who don't. That's a bold claim. Fortunes, change you know.

@JuniusFaction The problem in the equation is the government. No government program has ever been efficient or reduced costs. That is laughable. No one is this country goes without health care...ever.

Currently Canada, Europe, and other countries are trying to find a way out of their mess. They have painted themselves into a corner. Each has at least two generations of people with a sense of entitlement. These are the reasons that the US has always been the big gorilla in the room.

All of Europe, really? I know the Canadian system recently had some trouble, but due to more recent legislation.

They're doing considerably better than us. Compare the Japanese system, arguably the best in the world. It costs them 8% of their GDP, compared to our 17%, and ours is growing faster too. Even Canada is just 10%. I don't think anyone wants to argue that our current system is "efficient" or has "reduced costs".

@JuniusFaction Okay Skippy...let's talk Canada. I'm in Texas and two of my neighbors migrated her from Canada. They don't have nice things to say about the quality of health care up there...ehhh. They wait weeks for an MRI. They have a shortage of machines.

Her aunt waited 6 weeks for a quad by-pass. You get it the same day here.

I had back problems and my doctor sent me downstairs to get an MRI...IN HIS OFFICE BUILDING...not a hospital.

All the Canadian rich come here for care.

Basically, Canada has passed legislation to cut down on a "surplus" of doctors. The problems you have described have escalated wildly since then. As I've said, I'm aware of Canada's problems. "He said she said" can cut both ways. My friends from the UK have no problem.
