  • Another nine months and this will be officially retro! I feel a bit scared.

  • how come the bbc always get it SO right?????

  • the 2018 world cup mite be like dis in terms of the time difference n dat feelin dat it is a new world cup. i loved wakin up early 4 games n watchin sme at skool

  • Thanks to the people who have viewed and appreciated this video. 9 years on this World Cup is still my favourite and I don't regret putting this before my exams. Wish I could go back...

  • I remember all the games were on early in the morning here in the UK. Fun times!

  • Awesome world cup and Scotland wernt in it :)

  • @JMR83 its all about opinions though isnt it.I still thinkl 2006 & 2010 were shite but you dont .I think 2002 was quality, loads of great matches.

  • @JACKANDJAY10

WTF? Loads of great matches? The number of great matches in 2002 could be counted on the fingers of one hand. USA v Portugal, Senegal v Uruguay and after that I am stuck.

  • The 1998 and 2002 world cups were well better than the last two. So much more attacking tactics.

  • this is faithless song also this one world cup england should off won defo

  • 2002 Was a great world cup in my opinion, full of drama.Cant understand why people think it was shite.2006 & 2010 in my opinion were very mediocre..the 2010 one being ruined by those poxy vuvuzela's.

  • @JACKANDJAY10

2006 had far more "drama" and emotion, especially games involving Germany, Italy or Argentina.

2002 was shite because a very mediocre Brazil team with that cheat Rivaldo won having been mega shite the previous two years (if Ronaldo was not fit, they would not have won), all the best and most interesting teams got dumped out early, an extremely mediocre Germany team got to the final with an easy draw, loads of nobody teams and players were successful like those Korea cheats.

  • @JMR83 2002 was great in my opinion

  • @IndianaJoel93

Why was it great? It was shite, especially seeing those dirty cheating Koreans fluke to the semis.

  • @JMR83 Korea didnt "cheat" there were just a few stupid refereeing mistakes that went their way. and if Germany were so mediocre, then why did thy reach the final? and they still had quality players like Kahn, Linke, Ballack, Schneider, Klose and Bierhoff.

And Brazil, mediocre? when they had Cafu, Lucio, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo and Rivaldo?

  • @IndianaJoel93

Yes they were mediocre and had a VERY EASY passage to the final - Paraguay, USA, Korea. Hardly exciting. And with a few (and I mean very few) exceptions they did have a mediocre team with regulars like Jeremies and Jancker. Does that not occur to you? And likewise Brazil who also had regulars like Kleberson and Roque Junior and apart from Ronaldo the other two R's e stinkingly overrated. And cheating or stupid refereeing it was still scandalous that Korea should fluke their way.

  • @IndianaJoel93

And Rivaldo is also a cheat too.

Great teams like Argentina, Italy, France and Spain were totally fucked over in this crap cup and had plenty of great players I wanted to see do well. Fuck Brazil and fuck England too.

  • @IndianaJoel93 spot on,best since 1986 in (my opinion).

  • @JACKANDJAY10 1986 was before my time :P but my Dad says it was great too and I have seen highlights of matches, and it looked great :)

  • @IndianaJoel93 Yep - plenty of goals and Maradona was awesome.82 was better though lol :)

  • Another legendary tune by FAITHLESS !

  • Such an immense intro, love it.

  • Memories! Loved this title sequence, it shit all over ITV's one.

    Great tune, great everything!

  • music was great! the world cup was good, england did'nt disgrace themselves... I will say one thing though, the theme music WOULD make a good alarm jingle!!!! guranteed to do the business, wake you up that is...!

  • I was 7, I remember this like it was South Africa or Germany!!

  • The music is good if a bit cheesy for a World Cup theme, but someone makes a very good point that this sort of music is ideal to wake people up at 6 o'clock in the morning and it has Japanese/Korean tone to it. Classical music? No, not for a WC theme in Japan/Korea

  • This was an excellent world cup, very exciting and England weren't disgraced when Brazil beat us 2-1.

  • @Glenn1967ful WE LOST IN STYLE A

  • @Glenn1967ful WE LOST IN STYLE

  • @Glenn1967ful

Oh why don't you crawl back into your little hole you cowardly hypocrite. England could have beaten Brazil but were too cowardly to do so. They could put all that effort into beating Argentina but not an ordinary Brazil side. But hey, those cowardly double standard England fans like urself think there is no shame losing to Brazil.

2002 was not an excellent world cup, it was shite. Full of joke teams doing well.

2006 was way better. 2010 was fun too.

  • @JMR83 this is no place to shame the sport or any one in particular whether they like or dislike, enjoy or not enjoy the world cup in any year. you may think 2002 was pretty bad and that 2006 and 2010 were much better then those is your views, if someone else thinks that 2002 was pretty nice and that 2006 and 2010 dont live up, then let that be their views, but dont get on someone elses back because of it. personally i think 1998, 2002 and 2006 are pretty nice, but 2010 just didnt have goals.

  • @extralargetuna

My main attack at the original poster was for his cowardly attitude typical of Engerlund fans that year - "no shame losing to Brazil". A Brazil team that were really not that special, had a very easy first round draw and England just did not even bother. They gave their all against Argentina (who had just as good a team but were put in a very difficult group) but could not be bothered against an ordinary overrated Brazil who've had better teams in the past that didn't even win.

  • What a wondeful world cup this was! Absolutely spectacular! The Genius Ronaldo at work......best moment Brazil vs England!!!

  • i was 10 lol. always remembered owen on the side of that train lol

  • brings back loads of memories dis does man...was 15 at the time doin work experience for school...

  • The BBCs best intro so far since 1990

  • Doesnt have the same wow spine tingling event feel that the previous BBC titles had..

  • I never like to see England win due to the problems in Ireland we had many years ago in Lawnsdown road......please please get the french in the latter stages and fuck them up!.

  • @AyeOkNowFuckOff

Funny how most Englishmen would love for the other British Isles nations to win, yet when reversed you'd love to see us beat.

    Bitter much?

  • Best World Cup in my opinion

  • The tune was made by Faithless.

  • BBC has made it again.. excellent! ;D

  • good good intro.... dam those french cheating bastards v ireland.... goodluck england!

  • @AyeOkNowFuckOff

Thank you I don't like France We will beat them if we get them.

  • where is my comment you son of a cow

  • Old Intro

  • Faithless, Tarantula is the track. Pure genius and took me 4 years to find out what it was 8)

  • @StevenR74 cheers, I've been wondering what it was. Thought it was composed specially fo the world cup by someone, so no chance of getting hold of it! Thanks again!

  • ah this brings back good memories :)!

  • FUCKING BRILIANT 10/10

  • The sumo wrestlers are a bit odd! but i do love soccer

  • @nidhijoans

Because Sumo Wrestlers are from Japan.

  • this is f.ucking brilliant.... 10/10

  • i believe the sound at the end is due to the recording being cut off at that particular point its best reason i can think off or the upload was a bit weak got to be one of the two

  • no comments since I made the last one? :o

  • What was that disturbing sound at the end? lol

  • this music was good in the uk cause if you still half asleep it woke you up especially for those 7am matches

  • what!! men!! in mexico i had to watch it like at fucking 3 AM. My first World Cup.

    ahh good memories : )

  • well 2006 world cup gave me an excuse to be nocturnal and LOL good that my exams finished a week before the cup started xD... but yeah memories the world cup gives.

  • The disappointing thing about this is that the BBCs extensive promotional campaign BEFORE the tournament, which if you remember was done in a sort of anime Japanese animation style with various nods to Godzilla and other cultural icons, was surely one of the most inspired ideas ever; but for the actual titles they went back to something much more traditional and frankly somewhat dull.

  • this is probably my fave intro. fair enuff bbc dint use classical music but the memories!! rememba watchin the england v brazil quarter final unfold at school.. brilliant watch and we got morning off!!

  • yeah it brings back really good memories of the first World Cup I remember watching :) I used to love this tune to bits! Our school actually let us watch in the hall all the England games and some of the others too. Brilliant!

  • i was so happy when italy got fixed up it was revenge for 1990 wat they did to argentina in the finals. there team is so poor cuz they used all there money for bribing

  • It's actually one of my least favourite international tournament intros, this one. The minute the BBC don't use classical numbers, it lets them down. For me anyway.

  • good point.

  • So many memories.. thank you for this post!

  • I never thought i would hear this tune again after that world cup... until now!!!

  • Greatest world cup in recent times, and I'm Scottish, we weren't even in it, lol. Great intro scene.

  • The barmy and biased ref for Korea v Italy was a messenger from God to pay back Italians for years of ref-bribing.

  • i never forget 2002.

  • Kind of a blessing that we (Ireland) did not get past Spain, as we would have then faced the Koreans and seeing what happened in that Q Final.

  • The best world cup everand my favourite stadium was the Sapporo Dome. Faithless composed the theme tune.

  • Thanks for that I always wondered who composed this great intro.

  • 2002 was a good and entertaning world cup, europeans countries just bitch about because they didn't win, but i do agree that The Koreans cheated

  • You can't say that they exactly cheated. I mean they were the home side, plus, imagine all the pressure the refs had from the amount of Korean fans. There was too much pressure mounted on them, and that was one of the key reasons that the refs made such poor calls when a team was playing against the Korean side

  • I agree that in SK games, the referee was... unfair, but they did not cheat. They just had.. ummm home advantage I guess. And whining about Koreans cheating is very low sportsmanship so shut up :p. I think 2002 WC was a good one for asian countries... both hosts did good and China had chance to run in WC. You Europeans think it was bad only because well. you guys did shitty.

  • the 2002 world cup was the worst world cup ever seen since 1950 lol.

a lot of cheating from south corea...

france & argentina with only 1 point etc...

Italia & spain eliminated by cheat from south korea and referee who cancel 2 goal from spain & 1 from italia.

The only good match was brasil vs. england, the rest was bullshit.

but your video iz awesome nigga.

    fuck 2002.

  • As much as people say Korea cheated, there is a rumor that France and Italy didnt do any fuckin' practice before the match while Korea did LOTS OF them. Those Europeans losers believed that they will win easily against Korea or Senegal.. so thats what happened pretty much..

  • These European losers have won 9 World Cups between them. Africa and Asia haven't even had that many quarter finals appearances between them.

  • PUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.. very funny.. good for you.. Pardon my European things I mentioned.. but I was referring to Italians and French.. but you gotta remember that European teams never won World Cup off European continent ;-) So? There should be lots of more advantages for you then since you guys never had a problem with time difference and stuffs..

  • f u!

  • piss off

  • They were decent credits, which is lot more than what could be said of the credits that the BBC and ITV had for the 2006 World Cup.

The 2006 World Cup was crap, and it wasn't of the best quality, and there was a lot of cheating, and Martin O'Neill even said that it wasn't of the best quality.

  • This is tight. 2002 World Cup was a success, no matter how much the Europeans bitch about their loss.

  • wats the name of that football song that was played on the radoi alot of times donno wat year by it sounds like OH MY DARING CLEMONETINE but instrumental

  • yours was great, check this if you have time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAsI6FCUasY sequel coming very soon, cheers
