Really if Neville hadn't lost his toad Hermione wiould never have met them and without her brains they'd be in the shits. so basically...Trevor the toad is the true hero of the Potterverse
@Oaktail According to the books, this moment is 20 years ago. The books are set in the 1990s. Book 1 goes on in 1991-1992, book 2 in 1992-1993 and so on.
@DeexAngel I didn't work cuz in the Prisinor of Azkaban Peter Pettigrew was actually Scabbers. Therfore not technically a rat. So it could- or could not be- a real spell.
@LifeLiveLoveCheer of course I can, but in my country we use to say "haha" before we make a joke, that's why I didn't get it! I'm sorry, I really am :) don't be angry, I send you a big hug! :) xoxo
@LifeLiveLoveCheer but that is after you've finished the first year at Hogwarts. Remember that before going to that school, young wizards/witches still can't control their magic very well, so I don't think it's important :)
Okay, so we all know the title is really "Philosopher's" and that they changed the name in America, but when they say the name of the stone in the film, did they re-film it for America and have them say "sorcerer's" or did they still call it the "philosopher's stone" in the film in the US?
in the United States we have a different meaning for the word Philosopher. The publishing company changed the name to avoid confusion. There is a difference between American English and British English.
I love how Ron's all into people's business and asks about the scar. Cute. Ok so Hermione's all pointing her wand at Harry and she goes "You're Harry Potter! Wicked." and then Ron's all stuffing himself with candy they're like so little in that scene now they're all kissing and Hermione goes making out with Harry half naked and yeah they're grown up the series's over!! I miss them too much! That's why I'm doing fanfictions..
@nickymanda touché, even in Mexico it was released as "the Philosopher´s Stone" when I listened to the second bud and sub (USA) it was strange to me that it was called "the Sorcerer´s Stone"
@nickymanda It was only published as Sorcerer because the publisher of the books in america thought the children would not be able to understand not because they did not understand. It is probably because Philosopher is not commonly used.
@nickymanda Sorry Canadians and Brits, but in America, the word "Philosopher" implies one who ponders philosophy. The word has no magical connotations, unlike the word "Sorcerer." I'd like to see either of your regions score as well as America's on testing.
It's the Philosopher's Stone, dumbass. Sorcerer's stone is a pathetic name change in north america because kids don't understand the word Philosopher.
@BRFirefist Ok, Philosopher is not as common in the United States as it is in other English speaking countries. Sorcerer is more commonly known in the United States. It does not make it wrong. Don't judge so harshly. If you have a problem take it to Rowling, she was the one who suggested the name change for the United States.
@BRFirefist Sorry condescending British person, but in America, the word "Philosopher" implies one who ponders philosophy, which is the study of general and fundamental problems. The word has no magical connotations, unlike the word "Sorcerer" which means magician. I'd like to see either of your regions score as well as America's on testing, so don't say we aren't smart enough to understand.
@jonesybee33 I'm sure in some cases it's true that a British person couldn't score as high as some Americans but actually, and I mean this factually & not in a rude way at all, the diploma that you get at the end of your high school graduation at 18 is the equivalent of the British GCSE's which we take at 16. I don't think it's fair to state that no one from Britain could beat an American in your tests. And "philosopher" also means one who ponders philosophy in Britain, too.
@RosieB10 American people arnt stupid are they?:L Im not going to say British people don't have talent because they do! but so do american people, by the way you don't wanna be british, everyone thinks as us as drinking tea and biscuits when that isnt true, we don't! I don't even like tea! And plus the disadvantages of being in britain.... WEATHER!:0 x
@RosieB10 I'm not usually one to quickly defend America but are you implying the United States doesn't have a lot of talent?
Since this is Harry Potter, I will focus on literature. Ezra Pound, TS Eliot, Ernest Hemingway, Flannery O'Connor, William Faulkner, Sylvia Plath, Ralph Ellison. All born in the US.
There's also jazz/blues/soul, which was created by African Americans.
I'm not really sure what you mean, though, as you evidently lack talent with words.
@237cupcake Not trying to argue, or continue this quarrel, but in North America, Philosopher has a different meaning than it does for the UK. In NA a philosopher is considered someone who is "calm and rational under certain circumstances" or a "student of or specialist in philosophy" while in the UK it is considered as a person who practices dark magic, such as a sorcerer in NA.
