The best song Sting has ever written, and the most emotionally intense! Laying back with the headphones on and undulging in this music and lyrics brings tears to my eyes. This song may be 30 years old, but how appropriate it is in the current climate of near social and economic collapse. Who is writing songs like this right now?
this is the police with nucler armagedon issues l;isten to Rush signals same thing when I was in my early 20s Reagan was president and evry day we worried that world war 3 would happen with mutually assured destruction, try living with that fear 24/7
WHOA, SHIT! I have the EXACT same LP along with Synchronicity left over from the '80's. I had Zenyatta Mondatta, and saw it recently, but I don't know where the hell I put it. It's in pretty good condition, but my player refuses to play B-Sides at all costs, no matter what record, so it kind of sucks for me.
Thanks for posting this. There's a difference in the vinyl analog sound vs the digital sound. Play Wrapped Around Your Finger on vinyl and then play the digital version and you'll notice a big difference in the drums and the sound of the symbols.
@Elastikid You are hearing it as your ear was designed to hear it. Digital, although good and even the best gear doesn't have the sampling speed near fast enough to get all of the ambient noises that record players picked up. and also the ambient noises that are everywhere, no matter how small. Believe me, that needle cartridge picked it up. Sampling speed needs to be in the Megahertz range not 44,000 Hz File size would more than 50X as larger than now too.
1981 that's nearly 30 years ago. Charted Dec 81, got to 12, 8 weeks in chart. 3rd single from Ghosts in the Machine, Oct 81, no.1 album, 27 weeks in chart. Biggest LP Synchronicity no.1 48 weeks. Nice to see them together again performing. It's 32 years since they started in 1987. Next year will see sting's 60th birthday.
Vinyl blows cd's and digital away! And mp3's? Sounds like stuffing my ears with tinfoil before listening! GARBABE! This is awesome.... this sounds more alive despite the digital upload compression, thanks for this upload, love this track! Sounds like it should.
This Song is Close to almost 30 Years Old and it still Sounds just as Fresh as it was then. It never Gets Old Everytime I hear I'm more Amazed by the sheer Brilliance of it.
Ye canny whack Vinyl, in other words CDs suck, file downloads don't have the promise of the needle touching vinyl......go back to the 80s before digital age...and you have the real feel for music. I wish I was Marty McFly....88mph here I come.
It's just a shame what has happened to music. These songs are so classic and never get old. 20 years later The Police are better than %99 of the bands that have come along and this will not change anytime soon. Such a great song and great band.
What I like about Stings bass playing here is it's not nice and police jazz playing, it's almost rude sounding in your face. Good reggae playing by Sting.
This album came out when I was a freshman in high school. I used to play the vinyl album over and over and over again. Never got tired. This album is excellent. All their albums are great but this one is their greatest in my opinion.
Dang your vinyl is in GREAT shape. It's nice to know that someone still knows how to take care of it. I swear on a good system vinyl sounds better than CD.
@AzTrailRider57 Well, I very carefully A-B ed CD and my Stanton 681EEE and the CD is slightly better but you need Stax SR-5 Earspeakers to hear it. Virtually identical. I am an old hand. When you build your own gear it helps as well (amplifiers and active crossovers and speaker systems).
So do I, but I WORE OUT this track. In fact, it was the main reason I bought the album. (That's one of FEW advantages CD and other digital music formats have -- it's nearly impossible to wear them out.)
Converting my LPs over to my ipod MP3s this worked out great. I had three skips on my vinyl and matched up just fine. Fellow vinyl spinner lets keep turning them;)
I think its all a very nice hobby to collect those big vinyl discs.. but I still liking alot my 256kbps songs at my mp3 player. I think it sounds exactly the same way as the vinyl disc
Sorry vinyl lovers but my ear isnt that sensible ;)
This is a very, very good song, especially the lyrics.
