It's just so sad to see that Riverside International Raceway is gone. That was a sad and unfair end to a classic NASCAR road course. Thank God we have Infineon Raceway in Sonoma. That track will NEVER close if NASCAR has anything to say about it.

I just need a few questions answered

1. was this a slow process or death of a racetrack?...i mean did they say in 1982 that by 1988 the track would be done for

2. if the track was still around which drivers would be good at it?

i do know that the track was supposed to be gone by 1988 but not sure when it was announced originally that it was going to go away. I'm pretty sure when the track switched owners in 1983 there was plans to close it, i do know it was supposed to close before 88 but construction delays allowed it to stay open longer, the track actually didnt close until 1989, the track (turn 8 arena and 1st part of the Backstretch) were torn down in 88 but other parts of the track were used until 89

I was there as well for the entire weekend of races. I was 24 back then and lived in Sunnymead from 1972. I saw many a race there and participated in the last SCORE race in August of '88. Lot's of good memories! Thank you so much for these videos.

I could of sworn riverside was the first race until it was demolished. But in 1981, Riverside was the first race right?

Riverside was the first race of the season until 1981, ever since 1982 the Daytona 500 has been the first race.

From 1982-1987 The Riverside races were held in Early-mid June and Mid November.

Then in 1988 they had just this race in Mid June, June 12th to be exact
