  • I was 15 and my 1st LSD trip, 1978.....we played this record with this song and the whole song took up the one side of the LP. We played the song over and over and over again. I think I learned how to dance that nite too....and read minds....best thing,

the 2 chicks I was with....well hell yea.....you know it, we got hella freaky ...

    my 1st threesome!

  • Those guys did a 21 minute version of get ready!

  • I graduated from high school in 1973, we had some of the best music that year.

  • Very good!!!

  • Check out the guy on the congas. Its animal from the muppets!!

  • What are you 12 years old? And what is a muppet?

  • Hey Dude - It was a funny observation. Don't be trippin over it fuckhead. You're 47 from the united states & you dont know what a muppet is??? Man are you stupid!!!

  • uh huh, best to spend time on good music, which you apparently do, than on children's shows. Yeah, jim henson obviously, one would have to be brain dead. You have "funny observations", and i'm a bigger fuckhead than you thought.

    Superfuckhead

  • Hey RICK, bluduc - Why do you put your foot in your mouth? I bet you have a miserable life Dude. I stick to my original comment!!

  • Well said, I'll take my foot out of your mouth now.

  • Classic RARE EARTH live performance: I believe it's from the DON KIRSHNER Rock Concert TV Series that was a major hit in the 70's. I love MOTOWN legends RARE EARTH to heart for their part of my growing up: Pete, Gil, John, Ed, Kenny, Rod, Ray, Mark & Mike are amazing Professional musicians that are known for their fame long groovin' Soul jams. Drummer/Lead Vocalist Pete Rivera Hoorelbeke always sung w/his eyes closed while playin' which one can clearly see his in a deep "serious" thoughts.

  • love Rare Earth, but it wasn't until I saw the video and saw when Pete closes his eyes he looses lots of concentration> Trippen?

  • rare earth rules!

thats why i am gonna play my saxaphone with them on saturday!

  • saw them at the swing in San Bernadino

77 78 right before an airplane crahed into it!

  • Totally agree with you Brilliantbeing. If anyone knows anything about drumming, they would know that the great drummers like Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, etc held their sticks the way Pete does, because it does give you more control+flexability. I remember my drum teacher giving me hell for not holding them this way because it was the best way to get the rudiments and he was right. Pete is one of the most original drummers ever and it looks like he had a jazz influence.

  • Rare Earth is one of the most underrated bands in all of rock history. They understood blues an funk on a level that was beyond all the American rock bands of their day. Rare Earth understood music (and played) in a similar way that Black Sabbath and Led Zepplin did. Very, very funky stuff.

Rivera should be in the rock hall of fame.

  • Karen Carpenter held her sticks better than Pete. But he is great non the less.

  • rare earth was the best please dont compare dan henley with pete rivera i saw rare earth in 1971 i have the live album they really jam ulises miami fla

  • i live in miami i saw rare earth in 1971 i was in the concert of rare earth in concert to me john persh was the best bass player now i have the live album ulises miami fla

  • Why do you cut it there!!!!

  • Man, don't cut it off, there!!!!!

  • I don't know if I've ever seen a keyboard player jam so hard he needed to remove his shirt....funny stuff, a blast from the past for sure. Thanks for sharing.

  • Very good song! The drummers solo reminds me of the one Jake Booga plays in the "Over The Glass Mountain" with JCCC

  • anytime that you're seeing the drummer keep a 'pulse' on this band, that's when you KNOW: they're pretty cool!

  • I saw the drummer guy at a festival in Wythe County Virginia. He's in a group with some other guys from the four seasons, the headhunters, and Iron Butterfly

  • he was in that group now he is on his own now.

  • Me two:D:D:D

  • Great, Ijust want to celebrate this, with a five star.

  • this is sexy like sexy lionel richie

  • Really nice to see this. Is there any earlier footage out there? Something from "Ecology" would be great to see.

  • Someone posted they found the 9 minute version of this song,...but there's actually a 20 minute version of "Get Ready". I have the song,..there's a drum solo like this one, in there.

  • got the album too-actually the song is alomost a half hour!!!!!-they played at my high school in67,before they had a hit!!

  • The nearly 23 minute version was made to sound like a live album by using "canned" applause. I have that in vinyl and I still love listening to it. Its cool to hear each artist add his touch to the song.

  • Great stuff!!! It took me years to find the CD with original 9 mins track!

  • Kick ass.

  • Does this soing exist with the first minute or so of instrumental lead in (as opposed to starting right in with the singing) ?

  • Rare Earth rules but Pete holds his sticks like a sissy.

  • Peter holds his left stick in that fashion for speed ... try it and you will see the triple action compared to holding the stick like he does in his right hand

  • Agreed.

  • >Rare Earth rules but Pete holds his sticks like a sissy. He doesn't hold them ''like a sissy".

There are serious advantages of holding the sticks the orthodox way. Finger control for one that you don't get holding them the other way. I wish I had continued holding this way, but, "old habits die hard". By the way...listen to the speed of his double bass playing. Few drummers accomplished this back then.

  • i'd like to see something from the "ma" album... :)

  • you get a chance... go to peterivera dot com.... go find out what the ORIGINAL voice and sound of Rare Earth is still doing...

  • Wow, Great I never thought I could Rare Earth Live video. Really Thanks ^^

  • You guys forget about the rascals, they were the 1st white rock and rollband sign to Atlantic, which was primaraly a black label in the mid 60's.Any still great! Thanks!

  • where's the rest?

  • MINDBLOWING !!!

  • Actually, the song was recorded in 1969 and became a hit in 1970.

  • OOH IT'S SO GOOD!!

  • My all time fav tune..Prefer the original longer version thou'....

  • ffirst white band signed by black recording company in detroit by barry gordy

  • I read somewhere that they where not the first white band signed to Motown but the most successful. I don't know who the first one was.

  • OK Folks. Who signed Rare Earth? (Believe it or not, some don't know)

  • Motown! Most white record companies thought their sound was too urban for their market!

  • He said something like "Hey American guys, don't fool around, undoubtly the best son in music's History. Listen to the long version and you'll get amazed".

  • my girlfriend got me hooked to this group!! the first song that i heard from them was hey big brother... so far i consider them a class act!

  • actually the temtations did it first, but love rare earth's version.

  • Get ready By rare earth was released in the summer of 1968

  • Actually Rare Earth's version was released in 1970, the Temptations version was in 1968 (I have the Motown compilation CD's of '92).

  • Cool vintage stuff, I love the rock and roll from the 70th

  • does don henley count?

  • I think Rare Earth is the only Classic Rock band that the drummer was the singer....That's very "rare"

  • There was a certain little beat combo here in England called Genesis who's drummer has sung the odd ditty down the years.

  • Don't forget The Eagles with Don Henley on drums...

  • I think Rare Earth was the first, and maybe only, white act to be signed by Motown records.

  • There's also 98 Degrees (don't ask).

  • do tell

  • What a great band Rare Earth is.I miss 1973!!!!
