@Aviv52 - If you're still looking for it, search "The World Turns All Around Her." There's a version posted by byrdsmusic, I think it is. Also, there's an outtakes version posted. Great song!
One hundred years from now the music of today will be largely forgotten while the songs of Gene Clark will continue to be performed, studied and enjoyed.
check out Dillard and Clark, No Other, So Rebellious a Lover, and especially White Light. Also Echos with Vern Gosden. 2 Sides To Every Story is not now in print. Great, emotional music. No two albums sound anything alike.
it was self-titled & the first thing they did after Parsons left. nice version of Dylan's "To Ramona" and Parsons' replacement Rick Roberts delivers with "Colorado". But yeah, doesn't quite reach the heights of the first two.
Excellent comment. The third Burritos album, without Gram Parsons, was actually an outstanding effort and added the soaring vocals of Rick Roberts. "Four Days of Rain" and "Colorado" are standout tunes by Roberts. Hillman's "Tried So Hard" was outstanding with its sad vocal style and Sneaky Pete's whining pedal steel.
My favorite songs from this period that Gene did are "Echoes" and "Only Colombe." They both contain some of his most abstract lyrics. There are also plenty of great songs from this period that never got released. One such song was "Long Time," which was recorded by the Rose Garden, but no version done by Gene has ever been released, which is a shame because I'd love to hear him singing it!
"Tried So Hard" and "I Found You" are from "Gene Clark with the Gosdin Brothers" LP. That is one record I could listen to over and over again and never tire of it. It was his greatest album until "No Other" came along. This was my first exposure to "If I Hang Around". What a beautiful song. Clark was so great and so missed. I still listen to his later tunes and can't help but think how they would have sounded had the original Byrds recorded them. Thanks for posting these.
Your welcome. Imagine a great album such as Younger Than Yesterday, and what if Clark had contributed tracks to that album? What If? It boggles the mind! I'm glad I have introduced If I Hang Around to you and the previous post. That's what this is all about! For the People!
We can get a hint of what might have been with 5th Dimension. Its a great album with Gene only on a peripheral basis and then Gene added "8 Miles High" and the album became a classic. Gene's songs on the reunion album are by far the best on the album.
Thanks for the info & friendship. Wow, the song really got me. I spent most of last night researching it. Will try figuring out the chords on my guitar.

It was Michelle Phillips' affair with Gene Clark that got her kicked out of the Mamas and the Papas for a couple of months in the summer of 1966.

@tom89074 Michelle Phillips = Gene had a fling with her and this song is likely about her....Probably the first two are about her...

I sure do miss Gene Clark... and for that matter Clarence White and Gram Parsons. What if those 3 were all still here...

the often overlooked third Flying Burrito Brothers record has a damn fine version of "Tried So Hard" with lead vocals by Hillman.
