since i live in germany it is impossible at the moment to come over to okvg and testdrive guitars ;)
i was opting for a 814ce, but i would prefer dot inlays and now i tripped over the 514ce.
how can you explain the tonal difference between a 514ce and a 814ce? i was also looking at 614ces but as far as i got to know they're due to the maple a lot more "trebly" and lacking the bass.
could you recommend a 514ce for singing/songwriting purposes?
Thanks for the great question. Your thoughts seem to be right on target and your undertanding of the tonewoods is good. The rule is the darker the wood the darker the sound. Maple is bright and rosewood is darker and warmer. Mahoany is a good balance between the two. The Mahogany/Cedar combination is a great tone for my ear. You should also check out the 414CE LTDR. It is gloss rosewood with sitka like the 814CE but it has the 400 series dot inlays. It is like an 814CE for $2199. I have1
Thanks for the question. We no longer carry Breedlove guitars because I didn't like the way Breedlove treated their customers and we had more Breedlove guitars damaged in shipping than any other brand. Just the facts.
They are almost the same in cost and value and one is better to some and one is better to others. They make lots of different models because not everyone likes the same thing. 600 is maple and sitka and the 700 is rosewood and cedar. The 12 guitar is smaller than the 14 guitar. I like both equally but one better than the other, that would be a big controversy like, blonds and redheads, some like each. I would prefer the maple guitar be larger and the rosewood/cedar guitar be smaller.
Thank you Brother Bobby B. for displaying so clearly the guitar available! So often I have read reviews and opinions about countless guitars, but one still is left with very little idea what the guitar plays like. And everyone has a different 'take' on each item. Some rave about cheap guitars and some find fault with perfect instruments. What a grand luxury it is to have you describe it, show it, and PLAY it for us. It makes decision making much better and easier. Thank you so very much!!!
Gee, thank you. It is really a great privilege to play wonderful instruments and have people enjoy it. I see guitars as a lot like people. There is something good in all of them and a lot of great music in all of them. Some have been abused and it is harder to get the music out of them until they get a little TLC and then they sing the best of all. That is one of the great things of the craft. Sometimes a $100 guitar will shock you with a great sound. It's all fun!
What a very nice thing to say. I have talked for a living for almost 40 years now, however, if I had a great singing voice I wouldn't have been such a guitar player. Isn't it interesting that some of the greatest guitars players on the planet don't sing much. Some do sing well but many of the greats do not. Not that I rank at all, but I worked hard on my guitar because I didn't sing very well.
I'm not sure on that one, but I do love that song. Vincient has always been very interesting to me and Don Mc. really captured the heart of his art with the song.
i bought a Martin from you probably about 7months ago and oyu were very gracious and kind to me it was truelly the best decision i ever made i play it everyday, you can still smell the mahogany...thank you bobby!
You are so very welcome. Fine guitars are such a great thing in life. I'm so thankful to be able to talk to nice people like you each day of my life about music and instruments.
R U serious!? Having a 714ce is almost impossible for me because of the price. I would have to save about 10 checks just to get $3000. How much r u talking about?
I found as a boy in the projects in Central Arkansas I could work hard and get anything I wanted if I was persistent. My mom raised 3 of us by herself and she made about $100 a month back in the 60's and yet I had a 64 strat by the time I was 15. Still got it!!! You can do it if you want it bad enough.
Wow, what an inspiration to keep in mind. Love these okvg videoes you put out BobbyB. Great for comparing guitars. I would've come by the shop if I didn't live in europe!
