wow. you did such a great job on this. I'm just learning, haven't played in 43 years, please, would you tell me what key you are playing this, golden slippers in?
Mr. McGee, I recently picked up the fiddle not quite a month ago and your videos are a serious inspiration to me. Your rendition of this song, Faded Love, and Mississippi Sawyer have been the predominant versions of the songs in my head and I hope to learn them in at least a similar fashion as you've played them beautifully. Thanks for posting these videos.
So sayeth the Fiddler's Companion.:American song composed by prominent black minstrel songwriter and banjo player (with Haverly's Minstrels) James A. Bland in 1870 as "Oh! Dem Golden Slippers," which later passed into folk and fiddling tradition.
A HUGE Thank you! The night before, I received an email of the song list that our band is to play at a Benefit (Cancer) Concert this evening and "Golden Slippers" was one of the tunes included that I'm not at all fimiliar with. I'll be able to relate this to my mandolin for the tune!
great job on this, just make sure you tell your viewers that this is a trad. way to hold a fiddle & that it is better not to let your left wrist support the fiddle. The chin should do that. this is a really well made video & you play really well. i enjoyed this version of golden slippers. really fast & more Appalachian/old timey style to it. :D
Record it with your sound card's recorder feature, and make sure it records in the mp3 format. Then when you play it, use the slow-down feature in Windows Media Player. Works great.
Fantastic......:)

Oh, my old banjo hangs on the wall,
'Cause it ain't been tuned since way last fall,
But the old folks say we will have a good time,
When we ride up in the chariot in the morning,

the camera angle is perfect. i try to listen, watch and study and practice over and over again.
i just wish youtube would allow me to slow it down.
