  • LOL I remember being so ignorant when it came to caring for my hair that I bought that pantene relaxed & natural crap!

  • Coconut oil is a protein! When u use protein it tends to make the hair hard. Too much protein can be drying to the hair. I use my coconut oil for prepoo then follow with a moisterizing conditioner without protein! I love hello hydrations u can use it as a leave in too! Just found out all of this a couple of weeks ago!!! Too much protein can be bad too! U need a balance

  • Love your hair!!

  • beautiful hair..

  • a lot of the Pantene products for women of color also has sodium hydroxide (which is lye) in their ingredient list (especially the conditioners). so please be careful with that!

  • i trim my own hair. i trim my hair when it's damp. and i use a mirror. and i use tiny salon scissors. i am not going to a salon to get my hair trimmed. i bought the scissors from target. a stylist will probably cut off more of your hair than they should. i immediately know when my ends need to be trimmed.

  • my hair looks pretty long too cause i have a long neck

  • Girl I feel you about that moisture shot! I use Soft&Free curl activator and it works great! I trim my hair in 2 directions; horizontal then vertical. But my problem is that my ends always DRY up quick! I need THAT kinda help. Maybe Ill do like you and put up a vid asking for help. LOL!! great idea!

  • love it!

  • I'm in the same boat you were in! I totally understand where you were coming from and I plan to take a day off tomorrow and trim my dern hair! I'm not sure what approach i'm going to use, but I'm not doing my usual (dusting the hair while it's twisted). We'll see how it turns out.

  • your hair is so loooooooooong!! i'm jealous loool

  • *gasps* Wow its lovely and thick! How long have you been natural for? :)

  • o yea and u shouldnt feel bad about the "basically" thing cuz i have a habit of saying "you know" and my friend has a real bad habit of saying "or whatever" in every sentence hahahahahaha

  • OMG UR HAIR IS GORGEOUS!!

  • Yea, when I was relaxed, I tried Pantene and its the WORST product I've ever used! It contains a lot of alcohols so it made my hair very dry and cause breakage. As far as for my natural hair, I've learned the less products I use, the better. I spray it daily with water/EVOO mix and I promise, it keeps my hair soooo SOFT!!! I co wash weekly and wash biweekly, and use shea to moisurize. No need for all the extra products.

  • Hey, for moisture...try Qhemet Biologics Heavy Alma & Olive heavy cream...it's the best ever!

  • love ur hair its alll big and beautiful and wild

  • how many years natural are you? your hair looks great! it is so long!

  • where do you get the scarfs thanks

  • I tried it too and my hair was so crunchy and crispy...omg

  • Your hair is so beautiful........sorry 'bout the Pantene........thats why these vlogs are good cause I might or someone else may try to use it:O

    Be blessed:)

  • Wow your hair is amazing!!!!! I'm glad that you share your experience with products and since I am a newbie it is good to know what not to use and seeing the comments others agree so this is one product I will not be using

  • oh yea i forgot to tell you. maybe you should co-wash with giovanni's deep moisture conditioner. ilove it

  • to moisturize my hair i use a mix of shea butter, coconut oil. i also love organic root stim. olive oil moisturizer, tahlia waajid's: bodifying mist. nice vid

  • i love their shampoo and conditioner..but that daily cream stuff sux

  • YES!!! I understand completely!!!

  • Wow i'm glad you said that cause I started using that product . I need a trim too so I thought that was the reason it's was falling and the lack of moisture for dryness

  • LOL You are like the 4th youtuber with the same earrings as me, haha

  • i wish my hair looked that good

  • Yes. The Pantene is no jock, a very bad one. I can't understand it having such a bad reaction on my hair - 4a/4b.

rlr33 is right. working oil into hair is awesome. I do this nightly to easily detangle in the morning - co-wash & finger detangle daily. Gets in 2 scalp massages a day.:)

  • please don''''''t flat iron again since ur hair is dry it will break. yes it is the product it have alcohol in it to make ur hair dry even more. gurl i feel ur pain my hair is like that to. the best treatment is a leave in treatment for natural hair. DON'T CUT UR HAIR PLEASE. try a all natural hair products for ur hair its best. to me ur hair looks beautiful to me hon.

  • omg u r my inspiration!...love the hair.....u can also try just blowing your hair out and trimming in sections...i know im ten years late lol

  • the trimming thing is screwy. I know one thing though. when I use coconut oil my hair loses curl and gets kind of strawlike, which makes me "feel" like I need a trim. it could be what you're using on your hair that makes it feel ratty or in need of a cut.

  • Two strand twist your hair in plats and just snip off the ends. That's the easiest way to trim it.

  • That's exactly how I trim my hair.

  • It's so easy and prevents me from cutting too much.

  • The Pantene for relaxed and natural hair is petroleum based! Does nothing for our hair! Glad you are gonna stop using it!!!!

  • my hair is just like your but a little bit shorter ! lol i hate having to dew my hair. my moms going to stay doing it till she's 90 lol

  • i love ur hair!

  • Your hair is great, don't cut it! Wet your hair, section it and braid it in four or may be six braids. Then use extra virgin olive oil and rub it in after your hair is mostly dry and brush and rebraid your hair to work the oil in. It should get absorbed into the hair and result in much softer hair.

I've been natural for 17 years and this is what I do.

  • have you ever tried shea butter?!! Do you think it works with our kind of hair?

  • That Pantene oil moisturizer you used worked well when I was relaxed but awful when I went natural. You will need to do a clarifying treatment if you use it because it's go MINERAL OIL and CONES in it. Both of which can be bad news for most naturals.

  • That Pantene stuff is NOT good...I tried it too...it says its for relaxed and natural but its not...lol The ingredients are proof of that.

  • Wow, your hair is amazing! I am jealous!

  • I was a big fan of Pantene Pro V relaxed and natural, Neutrogena Triple Moisture and other products. My hair stayed dry. Coconut oil and shea butter was my same mixture it did nothing for my hair. I started using the curly girl method recommended by Mahogany curls and immediately I noticed a difference my hair stays moisturized. Those silicones in some products are very drying. Also I switched from coconut oil to Extra Virgin Olive oil. Check out MahoganyCurls Page.

  • all natural coconut oil can actually harden the hair if you are out all day in the sun, found that out the hard way.

Use Terax Crema conditioner it s on sephora but order it new on amazon its way cheaper. It is really good for my hair

  • Hey girl I can relate to dry hair problems too! I have very big and thick hair like yourself. I started using Giovanni smooth as silk deep moisture shampoo, conditioner, leave in and i must say its the best! I even got my mother using it and she is very stubborn when it comes to trying to new products. I also use the Organic Stimulator Olive Replenishing pack which makes my hair super duper moist

  • I just bought the Giovanni Direct Leave-In, and it gets kinda frothy if I use too much, but it leaves my hair soft. I have SUCH a hard time finding quality leave in cream conditioners. I give this one a 7.5, lol

  • panthen is terrible. It dries the hair

  • you should wear an afro or do a braid out. your hair is great!

  • If you;re feeling that you need moisture, a deep conditioning may be effective. I have been hearing good things about the baking soda conditioning deep treatment. And in terms of trimming, I put my hair in two strand twists, then cut the damaged tips off- and voila you have a sweet twist out to look forward to and can wear your two strand twists before then. hope this helps gurlie. I got the idea from other natural sisters.x

  • Patene is a very good shampoo and conditioner, I became a product whore and started using all natural products, some product took all my moisture out, so I start back usingPatene even through itn't natural, it prefect for my hair and we basically (LOL) have the sam texture.(Plus) condition end often it make them strong, and less breakage, and pure coconut oil is my favorite too.

  • My name is Keshia and I wasa product whore.:0)

  • You are crazy Girl lol :) I went natural and crazy too, with these product.

  • I use a homemade spritz that works overnight. I don't know anyone that's tried it and hasn't liked it for moisture and softness. it's vegetable glycerin, coconut, rosemary and castor oil conditioner and water. use that and seal in with shea butter. Works like a charm. Especially after washing (my hair gets dry instantly after using shampoo) I spray it on and smooth it on my hair, cap it over night and fluff after spraying with water or more spray if it isn't exactly how I want it.

  • I am so in love with all that hair (lol)! Oyin Handmade is an awesome product line! Try their Whipped Pudding, it is great for moisture and curl definition. You gotta do the research, i am the same way! I really use nothing but natural products. Your hair is so gorgeous girl! You have to get trims, i hate to but i do it for the health. I am scared of scissor happy people!! I got one person who i trust to do mine. Some people do them themselves, but i honestly think it would be hard accurately

  • luv ur hair

  • User RusticBeauty has a great video on trimming your hair. AfricanExport has product videos on maintaining moisture. I use shea butter and smooth n' shine curl activating gel for moisture all day long :o)

  • FINALLY someone with the same hair i have! but mine is so short. How do you get yours so long???

  • i am inspired by your vids to go natural at some point. thanks for sharing girl.

  • i am trying to hold on--i can't think of styles, tired of detangling ect. arg. thinking of perming but i don't want the chemicals.

  • get some braids :)

  • o no dont get a perm. i got one and it took my hair out. gurl jus have your natural hair and play around with it with different styles and things. thats what iim doing

  • To anyone with dry hair:

Theres some really great products called Ojhon.

Me and my friend use it. (I don't have curly hair, but my friend is half African, and has tightly curly hair. It works for both of us.)

It is however quite expensive.. But if you use it sparingly it really works. (:

  • watch Rustic beauty,,she trims with twists in..works great...................

  • lovely. i can't wait for mine to grow that long!!!

  • Hehe when you first started the video I was like..oh my..it's my twin! My hair is the same way..but it looks gorgeous!

  • Ahhh. . .Your hair is soo beautiful. Don't worry. You can never go wrong with unrefined shea/ coconut oil. You may have to clarify your hair first then start re-conditioning your hair. Afterwards it should be able to hold the moisture. those are good products for moisture as well. Also try flat twists opposed to individual twists. Won't take you as long and should get a good result.

  • I love your hair

  • I have not clipped my ends yet (6 months natural) but on Youtube I've learned you can twist hair and just dust the ends or you can braid hair and braid by braid unravel hair and clip the ends. It stretches hair without flatironing. I know it's a late response but I hope it helps. You and your hair are so beautiful. Have a beautifully blessed day.

  • Do you use curly girl method?

  • i love your hair!!!!!

  • u look mixed wit indian.. u & ur hair is beautiful

  • Your hair is extremely beautiful. Try hydroveil scalp and hair mist I use it on my tansition hair and it helps.

  • OMG - Your hair is beautiful - Just beautiful

  • Your hair is so pretty and long!!! Do you have tips for hair growth?

  • Try watching the way RusticBeauty trims her hair (ie look her up on here and search under "trim"). She doesn't flat iron first. She just twists it, takes aloose one twist at a time, combs through it, and trims 1/4 inch. Her hair looks GREAT!

  • Twist your hair and then cut the ends. I use Pantene and my hair was hard too. My hair is hard to keep the moisturize in. Pantene says for daily oil cream moisturizer. Your hair is so long don't let any one cut your hair. This is what the Word of God says: Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. God bless. Your hair is so beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i used he pantene and mixed with olive oil and left it in for about.30min. or just find a good deep conditioner. i cut my hair wet but remember the strinkage.

  • Hun I think just add more oils to your shea butter mixture as well as some glycerin. All that added together should give you a substancial amount of moisture.

I mixed in a lot of glycerin into my shea butter/coconut/olive oil mixture. It made my hair super moisturized!!! I hope that helps hun :)

  • your hair is so pretty!!!!!

  • Please tell me what your hair care routine is?

  • Try the gold-n- hot professional conditioning heat cap from sally's beauty supply store,it cost $30. It will make your hair soooo soft.

  • my dear .. the phrase is "I'm at a LOSS" ...

  • LOL, we all have a blunder every so often :)

  • you could try a mixture of vegetable glycerine aloe vera gel and an oil like olive or coconut oil. my hair soaks it up and thanks me every single day for putting it on!

  • try making or order some shealoe. it is very moisturizing. it contain shea butter, aloe vera and the oil of your choice.

  • i am totally natural too and i am having the same prob. so i got my hair braided. i have been using an herbal acv rinse to cleanse my scalp and oyin handmade honey hemp condish the length of my hair. oiling my scalp with my herbal coconut oil or jojoba oil every 2 days. i also made a shealoe mixture using my herbal coconut(i created) to put on the length of my hair since it is a little heavy and creamy.

  • You almost sound just like me when my hair was breaking really bad. The only difference is that I am transitioning.

i hope you find something that works! Best of luck to you!!

  • I used that same products and a year later my hair is still trying to recover. Right now I am using cream of nature extra moisturizer shampoo and conditioner and it works so much better. Anywayz just wanted to say I know how you feel.

  • Have you tried putting in a water & vegetable glycerin spritz and then sealing all that moisture in with the shea butter or what ever oil you like to use? That seems to work well for me. If you want extra softness use the spritz and a leave in conditioner and seal it in with your favorite oil or shea butter whip. Hopefully that will help {:o)

  • Use a glycerin and spring water mix to spritz for moisture, I also keep it in a small spray bottle for on the go use. It really works for me to moisturize my hair.

  • as for flat ironing, there is a process to it. U need to get a good heat protectant after you pick it out or blow it out with a blowdryer with a comb attatchment. Then section each piece and spray on some heat protectant and make sure u have a QUALITY flat iron! if u got a cheap or crappy skinny ass flat iron, it won't work. But if you have those tools, you can flat iron ur hair in less than an hour.

  • u need a richer thicker leave in conditioner. I wear my hair curly and i wash it once a week, deep condition with cholesterol, and put a curl activator in it and detangle. Then i top it off with kinky curly and every 2 or 3 days put coconut oil in it and my hair is super soft and my curls stay bouncy and polished looking. Since you like your hair in more of a fro style, jut leave out the kinky curly and stick with a rich leave in. Pantene products suck, throw that mess in the garbage.

  • only u kno ur hair i hav really dry 4a/b hair and i use organic deep replenishing pack (it comes n a bottle now) i keep the conditioner in while i trim my hair...it really helps my hair stay moisturized n very soft...but thats just me...also rusticbeauty and marand313 hav good hair tip vids u should check em out...good luck!!

  • I tried that Pantene Daily Moisturizer too. It was good the first day, but the next day my hair was dry and brittle. It took like a 2 washes and a week for my hair to feel normal again. Try putting a little bit of the Coconut Oil on your ends every night for a few days and see if that helps :)

  • yeah I have that problem! The only thing my hair doesn't absorb quick is WATER! So I make my own daily moisturizer. I use WATER, TEA TREE OIL, OLIVE OIL, COCONUT OIL, AND JOJOBA OIL ALL MIXED TOGETHER.

As far as trimming you can go to a Dominican hair salon and have them blow dry your hair straight. They use alot of heat and it may hurt a little but they get it pin straight and thenn I always go home and trim my own ends. and I never see damage only growth. Good luck!!!!!!

  • I recently was having a similar issue. As for trimming, I've trimmed like you have in the past but I felt like I recently had so much damage on my ends that I felt I needed to get it done professionally. I ended up doing it myself just taking sections (while dry) and clipping straight across. My hair too sucks up moisture and I have found that moisturizing it throughout the day helps. I use the same products I always have but I apply them 3 times a day. Hope this helps.

  • for style,,,,,, u can do pin curls (smooth it out , twurl it up and stick a bobby pin in it) while semi -wet (semi wet will keep it from shrinking too much) and light shea on the strands (if u use too much it will weigh it down and build up) and it will come out great!

  • clarify ur hair with 1/2 tsp of baking soda with 8 oz of distilled water. ( get rid of build up from the shea) Apply organic plain yogurt (to put your ph level back) If u have Sally's Beauty Supply n ur area, pick up a gallon of Cure Care Conditioner $8. Avoid Conditioners with Cetyl Alchohol.(a wax that blocks out everything u put in ur hair) Condition wash every 2 days & seal with shea on the hair while wet. (use a small amount). Dilute shampoo's with distilled water:) twist & clip ur ends.

  • I loved Pantene when I was relaxed but I don't think it's good for natural hair even though it says it is. Try making some shealoe which is unrefined shea butter and 100% pure alcohol free aloe vera gel. It works very well for me my hair loves the moisture. I started using Cantu shea butter and that's good too. I struggle with moisture too and water is my friend girl! Please don't flat iron your hair, it's beautiful, don't damage it.

  • First of your hair is beautiful! I can tell that you are extremely frazzled by this hair thing.

Have you tried doing regular deep moisturizing conditioning?

Also have you tried creating a daily glycerin spritz? If not I'd get on that ASAP. It will leave your hair moisture for days!

Try the deep conditioning and daily glycerin spritz and then decide whether or not you require a trim.

  • I am so lovin' your fro! I totally feel you on letting someone else cut your hair. If you trimmed your hair before, I say you do it again. Either way, your hair is gorgeous! Sorry about your hair dilemma. =(

  • loooooovvveee dah tat.

  • I'm gonna just email you on what worked for me on moisture, trimming, and all others. Love you hair.:)

  • LoL. YEah girl. I know how you feel. All of a sudden I have CRAZY ridiculous dandruff. For the ends, try adding Cantu Shea Butter on a few ends and if it's still dry, girl, you gots a problem. Are there balls or knots? OIls don't moisturize - they seal in moisture. Cantu SHea Leave in COnditioning Treatment is great for moisture. You can check my large products review video. Anyway. Gotta run!

  • cantu shea butter is great , also coconut oil is even better

  • I just discovered mixing glycerin with aloe vera gel. It makes my hair super soft and moisturized. Also, the braid sheen by the roots is awesome too!

  • Yea Pantene was my favorite brand when i was relaxed and it smelled sooo good! I used it when i become natural and i gave all my pantene products away, but i feel like you i need more moisture to

  • Hey Notsoshy28 ,,try my aloe and shea butter mix and tell me what u think: Aloe Vera Gel, Jojoba Oil, Coconut Oil and just a little bit of Shea butter,,,mix well and apply to each twist or hair.

  • the pantene is really made for relazed hair I loved it when I was relaxed

  • It was my first time ,,And the Ad on the bottle Pantene: Relaxed and Natural,,,that is what got me,,,neva again 4 me...lol

  • I Think You Need A Trim,,,,,im at the tail end of these comments, I hope that you found a solution. Your hair still looks gorgeous!!!....That oil moisturizer by Pantene is NO good for our hair...

  • Pantene will neva see a dime from me...lol,,,but yes I did find a great moisturizer....thanks

  • Try distilled water with a little coconut oil mixed in a spray bottle for a hair spritz. This moisturize my hair really good and detangles it.

  • I am glad to know my hair loves coconut oil,,,I will try that,,,thanks

  • the dryness you feel is more than likely the Pantene stuff (does it have mineral oil in it ). Your hair looks beautiful and uniformed- but if you feel that you need a trim- do a twist set with your shea butter and trim each twist- that way you get a trim and a style at the same time! Easypeasy. Again your hair is the Bidzness!

  • Yes I bet it was the Pantene that made me soooo stress out...lol...I should have known better. I will no the next time to read b4 I buy. The shea and aloe mix did the trick for me....lol thanks

  • Sorry, You Tube messed up my measurement below. There were supposed to me more space in the bars but 1/8" is fine too.

  • Your hair doesn't look uneven and it pretty healthy.

I think all you should do is take your hair in small sections, maybe the size that you would normally section out for medium twist and dust maybe 3/8" off the ends.

About this much [ ] if that! You can go smaller.

RusticBeauty does a segment on dusting, check out her page.

  • Thats what I did SheNappy,,,and it works,,thanks

  • Wonderful!

I'm glad it helped. I've recently done my big chop in the beginning of May so I have yet to trim my ends but when I get the chance to do so this is the technique that I plan on using. It seems like the best way to trim without the risk of cutting too much off. LOL We don't want that!

    Many Blessings =0)

  • I was thinking, since your hair looks pretty uniform (in length), maybe you could comb it out, pull it into a puff, and use clippers (with a guard of course), and just glide over the puff with the clippers...just a thought.

  • Oils and butter do not moisturize, they seal in moisture. Maybe u should use a curl activator lotion and or gel. Thats what I use, then seal with the oils, etc. The Hawaiin Silky line is great!

  • patchouli85 has a really good natural deep conditioning video...maybe you should try that a couple of times prior to trimming your hair (accidently deleted my 1st message)

  • About a week ago I purchased lustrasilks cholesterol olive oil formula and it gave me an immense amount of moisture. I was reaaly impressed and suprised. I got it from sallys for about 2.79 - check out cynthiarf's video on trimming, its really easy and you can do it while wet. Good luck .hth

  • Thanks curlmebella I will have to give that a try that soon,

  • You're hair is gorgeous. I am on a search for a good moisturize as well. I have tried so many moisturizer at beauty supply store, walmart, and walgreens w/o any luck. I made whipped shea butter and it works, but I don't like my hair to feel greasy. I went to the store today and purchase ORS hair moisturizer.I will get back to you on how it works on my hair. Also, I just place my order for Ojon Handmade sampler kit and Qhemet Biologics. I will let you know if they work for me.

  • I think I may found what works for me ,,,,Aloe Vera Gel, Jojoba Oil, Coconut Oil and just a little bit of Shea butter,,,mix well and apply to each twist...I sooo feel u on the Shea Butter,,,dont get me wrong I love it but I only use a little bit,,,HTH,,,lol

  • Thanks for the reply. I wanted to let you know that I tried the ORS and it works well on damp hair, but it contain petroleum. Qhemet Biologics and Ojon didn't really work for me. I have the sample size of Miss Jessie Baby Butter Cream and it made my hair so soft. I'm not sure if I will repurchase b/c it contains petroleum and mineral oil. no no for natural, but if my hair likes it i will have to put in my hair regimen.

  • LOL. I know how you feel. I rocked my first "ideAL" wash n go for a week and my hair was soft and moist and shiny.Tthis week my hair is hating me. I am asking the same question !I used so many moisturizing natural products, my hair should be far from dry. Let me know what you discover works for you. Also I dont know how the weather is there, but in Cali we are going through some extreme and uncertain climate changes. I t was super hot yesterday, and sunny with wind today! *sigh*

  • Girl let me tell you I have been on a search and tried it all,,,And what I have came up with is just using Aloe Vera Gel, Jojoba Oil, Coconut Oil and just a little bit of Shea butter,,,mix well and apply to each twist,,,It is the best,,I will try to make a video 4 U.

  • visit rustic beauty's videos. i think she has a video on how to trim the hair.

  • Yes she has the same routine I use to do in the past,,,,,and if anybody can have the patience to trim all of that beautiful hair then so can I....lol

  • Have you tried a veg glycerin mix yet? If not than you should try that first and then try some of the Karen's Beautiful Body products. How often are you washing That may be an issue, maybe you should go back to the cowashing for a while.

  • I have tried veg glycerin but I didnt like the way it made my hair feel. I wash once a week now to take more control of those knots. Oh and I have also found the right moisture for my hair now,,,lol

  • In all honesty, I don't feel like you have to flat iron your hair to trim it. If you take small enough sections, comb through it really well and then take a smaller comb and comb the ends nice and easy you can trim your ends just fine! It works for me. I never thought flat ironining the hair to trim was a very good thing, lol

  • Your right Coils,,no flat iron was used,,,and really all I needed was my ends trim and to seek out those pesky knots,,,,lol

  • patchouli85 had a really good deep conditioning tutorial that is so moisturizing. Maybe you should try that first prior to cutting your hair.

  • I did a avocado treatment prior to my trim,,,and it made my hair sooo moist.
