@peacebuntou ... what you talk about and what the video talks about are two different things. The tatau, as a "mark of manhood", is an INITIATION or MATURATION process, where we put aside childish things, and "become a man"; it's an identity marker (for those for whom it matters). "Providing for your family" is the role of a man as in a LIFESTYLE or DUTY. You can (and should) do it whether you have a tatau or not, and it won't change your status as "a man".
One take-away I get from all this is unless I get a tatau I'm not man enough!? tsk tsk. I thought being able to provide for my family was manly enough- alas in my cultures eyes I'm obviously not!
