no you can't be sure. Most of the more experienced old tyme dog men do not even seriously game test their dogs until over 18 months of age. Many game dogs are ruined by being tested too young that is why many dog men only buy young dogs and not pups. They don't want to spend time and money feeding pups that turn out to be curs. So they buy from proven stock or good prospects.

The Spanish government has been much more stern & brutal towards their dog men than any other country over the past 100 years. This is why there are very few game bred Ca De Bou & Presa Canarios left (they still exist in the depths of their respective islands, although the dog men live in fear & refuse to advertise their dogs). Mainland Spaniards have always felt that pitting dogs against each other was weak & trashy & always opted for bull/bear-baiting.

Dog fighting became such an extreme problem on the Canary Islands & the Balearics (much more prevalent than in the UK or America or anywhere else) that the Spanish government took extreme measures.

There is always game in the total gene pool of all dog breeds. There is just more on average in dogs from fighting lines as the breeding is a lot tighter. A dogman would not start breeding with dogs that are unproven as by the law of averages he wants to start with higher potential chance of getting a deep game dog. The highest chance of getting that would be tight bred lines that have had proven dogs in the ancestry. That doesn't mean to say there are never any game dogs of other breeds

However professional dog fighting is big money, so why would someone want to do that when they already have proven lines of APBT! I agree Stormer produced nothing however he did beat Psycho, and Psycho rightly or not is now urban legend (deserved or not). I met a guy who was friends with a certain gentleman that trained Stormer. He thought Stormer was outstanding in the pit, and could like Max pace himself very well. The typical show standard English Bull Terrier and SBT here in America are not the working dogs pictured in the video, either. We US fanciers of true APBT know the difference between proper athletic dogs and the fat blue hippos American Bullies, btw. Max was owned by gypsies not thugs. He would of been kept for breeding if not killed. He beat some very reputable dogs including from the world famous Limey's kennels. He was put in a rescue shelter because no-one apart from dog fighters at that time could handle his prey drive. He was crippled due to jumping out a third floor window after a cat he saw when looking out the window. The 1st owner rescued him, had to re-home him, for killing her bull terrier. This was before he was matched.
