@vergarafrank Gotta say, even though I HATE Joe Warren and don't think he deserve the belt, he didn't win because of illegal hits. The first punch that dropped Soto took a good lot out of him while the two hits that actually did connect to the back of the head were slightly blocked by Soto's hand. The hammerfits were to the side of the head, which is why the ref said "there you go". Though Warren should've lost the belt, because he got his ass whopped by Marcos Galvão.

Whoever wins that fight - although ultimately I'm a bigger fan of Pitbull - will have a really good shot at beating Joe Warren. Especially Straus who has some of the best ground fighting skills needed to beet Warren who will always resort to when he starts losing stand up. With Pitbull I'm not sure but he's solid. Actually, there have been no long term studies, so you cannot say it is as safe as other contact sports. Anecdotal evidence of former Pride fighters who seem to have lost the ability to speak correctly puts it in a questionable category. Unlike other sports in MMA the intention is to hurt or injure your opponent so the potential of serious injury comes as a part of the sport and not an accident. There will be more than the three deaths in the future.

@twainname , Renzo Gracie said there will be more brain damage because of the gloves! A lot more guys have bad headaches after the fights than before when they were basically bare fisted. I feel the injuries will follow right behind boxing, with long term dementia comming on with many fighters. But i don't think as many deaths, refs are on a fighters ass as soon as they go down, very little punishment happens after a fighter gets hurt. Boxing is another story!!

@beshoy from that angle it does look like a bunch of hammer fist to the back of the head and thats what I was thinkin when I saw it live but if you watch the replay from another angle he hits him once in the back of the head then the ref tells him to "watch the back of the head" so he starts hitting the side and the ref says "there ya go"

@beshoy It was actually only 2-3 and they were inadvertent as a result of Soto rolling onto his stomach. The ref says "Watch the back of the head" so Warren does, and changes the angle of his punches. The next 4-5 punches that come are behind the ear, which are legal shots. I think the ref even says "Ok" once he sees this. The biggest shots were the right hand that started it and the knee, left hook combo to cap it. No ref in his right mind would stop it for the back of the head shots there.
