  • lol when you said he smelled like the real dumbledore i could smell some shit

  • I want Richard Harris back!!!!!

  • @Rabsgood I'm waiting for someone to invent an inter-dimensional travel machine. With this invention, we will be able to travel to a universe in which Richard Harris lived on to play Dumbledore in every HP movie. But why stop there? Chris Columbus will have directed HP 3-7, and John Williams will have scored ever film! Oh, and J.K. Rowling will have written a better 7th book... a MUCH better 7th book...

...and Michael Jackson will be alive...

  • @Kachukeland Thanks you made me very happy by saying this..Michael Jackson and Harry Potter.. With John Williams and Richard Harris. Also David Yates is nothing against Chris Columbus

  • @Seantogood ...we were robbed of MJ's This Is It tour. I'll always be sore about that... Oh, are we talking about Harry Potter again? Sorry, lol.

You know, David Yates did great with what he had, considering he picked up the series after others had put their hands all over it. But, as you said, Columbus's were great. Bright colors, school robes, book accuracy, the list goes on.

And I really love Alexandre Desplat's score for movies 7 and 8. He's the best replacement for Joh Williams.

  • I find it funny how you used what looked like a bootleg for the clip from harry potter 5 which had been out for almost 2 years. but 4 days after the release of the 6th movie you find high quality footage for clips.

  • @blackzabbathfan lol, good point. I get my clips from youtube, and at the time that was the only upload of that clip. As for the 6th movie clip, that clip was available as a promo download.

  • @Kachukeland makes sence

  • I demand Dumbledore Review 3.

  • @sw174 lol, well, i don't have much left to say. I'd just be repeating myself.

  • @Kachukeland Anyway, I'd love to hear what you have to say about Dumbles in the last film, no matter if you were to repeat yourself. I love your videos ^.^

  • Also, I love what you did with the music there at the end - brilliant :D

  • When you say "and this shot was amazing" do you really mean it or was it sarcastic?

  • The sixth book was my favorite because of its slower pace. It focused more on the characters than the action, for which I was grateful. And the seventh WAS a good book! I don't know why you would say differently... you must be weird. ;)

  • The only problem is he stopped being bothered with wearing the Dumbledore glasses...

  • WHAT THE FUCK!! I thought these videos were awesome, BUT DID YOU JUST SAY HARRY POTTER WAS FUCKING BORING!!!!! SCREW YOU!!!!!

  • @SirAvalord lol, well, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince was definitely the most interesting book of the series. But you have to admit, it was very slow, and not much happened until the very end. Had Deathly Hallows been a great book, I would have forgiven Half Blood Prince.

  • @Kachukeland The way I see it is Harry Potter the Books and the Movies are two separate stories. As the movies could never have been the same as the books, I just imagine that the movies tell a slightly altered verison of harry potter. I LOOOVE the books and the movies and think they did a brilliant job. Afterall, Harry potter is not a clique, fan group, or a cult but rather a way of life.

  • @SirAvalord sorry but is true. the sixt film as boring as hell. It was kust the ending what resulted interesting. They even left out the Lupin / Tonks relationship and thats unforgivible.

  • @Kachukeland Dude you really should do a review for the deathly hallows movie. This is good stuff man.

  • Richard Harris is dumbledore and it's shame that director david yates didn't put him in Deadly Hallows Part 2. He could put hem in the memory, in the scene dumbledore claps for Harry. Or He could add some voice of Richard Harris.

  • @Seantogood Well, unfortunately, re-casting was inevitable. But they could have at least cast someone who was similar to Harris, rather than his complete opposite.

  • @Kachukeland I mean they could add a scene from Harry Potter where Richard Harris claps for Harry. Like they added snape from the first movie, and harry. But maby they didn't do that, cause of the confusion between Michael and Richard. But I would be so glad if they had putted in the memory.

  • I hope you will make a dumbledore review the third on....Because in Deadly hallows part 2 in the memory of snape. Dumbledore acted a little bit too rude.. He was good at king cross station. Finally they got his bow out of his beard. In the last scene it's a shame.. Please make a last one. I'm a fan of your dumbledore reviews and show'd everyone this review (my family and friends) And the agreed with your opnion, so do I.

  • Dude, you didn't like the sixth book? Blimey, I thought you seemed okay...

  • @jagheterzack it was definitely very interesting, I loved learning about Tom Riddle, and how he became Voldemort. But, you have to admit, not much actually happened. I would read a chapter or two, and think, "hmmm, interesting..." but there wasn't much that pulled me back to read more, like in previous installments. I might have forgiven the slow speed of the sixth book if the seventh was great, but, alas, Deathly Hallows was awful.

  • @Kachukeland Eh? Deathly Hallows was very intense, especially if your complaint with the half blood prince was that it was slow.

  • @UnknownXV well, I don't know if you saw it, but I have a Deathly Hallows book review on youtube. You'll find your answers there, lol

  • In the fifth movie i think they were trying to show that Voldemorts knowledge of magic is more extensive than any wizard alive even Dumbledore, in the first chapter of scorcers stone Dumbledore himself says that so thats why in the movie Dumbledore is shocked by what voldemort dose. But thats just what I think

  • I too believe the lack of Chris Columbus as a continuing director to be one of the reasons the movies had less and less charm as they went on and certainly to do with how Gambon was directed to act/dress. This isn't about him as an 'actor' in general at all, this is about his simply wrong portrayal of the character of Albus Dumbledore when relating to the official harry potter 'lore' as it were. The people who have read the books know this, it is not debatable.

  • I'm glad they rectified a few problems with Dumbledore, but oh what a shame it took them three whole films to realise there was something wrong. I'm wondering if the whole Dumbledore look (i.e. his beard, clothes etc.) were to do with director Chris Columbus. Once he stepped down, which coincided with Harris' death coincidentally, Dumbledore seemed to have a whole new look, which to be fair is not Gambon's fault. Still not a fan of him though.

  • 2:09 That's what stunt men are for :)

  • and this is me - D' :

  • Thank you soo much for this video! Not only I hated his acting as Dumbledore but

I also hated Gambon`s clothes, his hat,his hands..In the half blood prince, he reminded me alot of Gandalf from the lord of the rings!!

  • I almost wet myself at 'yo mamma' :')

  • I just think Dumbledore was stressed throughout Goblet of Fire, which is why he was always yelling.

  • @IMDBmoderator well, Dumbledore didn't act that way in the book. So, regardless of his stress, Gambon's portrayal of Dumbledore was inaccurate.

  • @Kachukeland Its not just the actor, blame the script.

  • @tonydark6 yep, it's the script's fault, the costume designer's fault, the directors' fault, AND Gambon's fault.

  • Yo MAMA!! So unexpected lmao!!!

  • I think Michael Gambon is most playful and kind. Harris was just two film and I think he will be the same because the director want to play Dumbledore this way.

  • 1:08 just made my day, did not see that coming at all. I laughed so hard; thank you!

  • @ghfdfhfdndxhcg that's good ol' richard harris for ya! :)

  • Michael Gambon was just acting how David Yates told him to.

  • I'm still really really upset that Richard Harris died and was not able to play Dumbledore for all of the movies. I totally agree, MG in this film quieted down and started to shape up to be an acceptable dumbledore, but only too late because he dies anyway, why couldn't he have taken the hint sooner? Also a burning question that has bothered me to no end. What's with the tie midway around his beard? What the hell is the point of that? I want a flowing beard not a 'ponytail' like look!

  • @19Irishdancer yeah, I didn't feel anything when Michael Gambon's Dumbledore died. I was just like, "hmmm... well, I guess he had it coming..."

  • @Kachukeland I know right? I was like, why am I not upset by this, because I know when reading the book I was deeply upset and did not see it coming, or at least I didn't want to. But yeah if Richard Harris had still been Dumbledore I probably would've cried my eyes out, just because he is that good at portraying Dumbledore.

  • @Kachukeland he played him fine in deathly hallows too!

  • @Kachukeland

I totaly disagree with you on this point. I understand you are frustrated but Gambon was a good Dumbledore, both played the character well.

  • I think Richard Harris would have done so well when Dumbledore goes kind of crazy in the sixth movie in the cave. There's this movie called The Field and in the end of it Harris's character goes little crazy in the end.

  • Those first 6 second had me laughing for days. Don't no why but it was just so funny. Ow! Stop it! Ouch!

  • Stop with the adjectives fight, my heart got broken on 3rd movie. Fuck haters.

  • I disagree, but respect you opinion

  • I think Gambon was actually very good in Prisoner of Azkaban, to be honest. He joked, he was in control, he was whimsical... He even had the pointy hat, half-moon spectacles, and everything. Everyone kinda hated him in that movie because he was a different actor all of a sudden, but looking back I think it might have been his best one. Give it another watch sometime.

  • Gambon is a brilliant actor who has tackled complicated, nuanced, deep roles in theater and film. But yeah, a barely two-dimensional archetypal wizard is easily the most important role of his career. He better "research" his role.

  • @DrFlaxWebFLOO They should have found an actor who looked right, sounded right, and was willing to take the role seriously. And yes, I don't think it's too much to ask that at least a few *excerpts* from the book be read by the chosen actor, merely for the sake of having some clue about the character. Dumbledore should never have been PART of Gambon's career because he was a terrible choice for the role, and an actor who truly respects his craft turns down roles to which he can't do justice.

  • @scarabmango Disagree entirely. He played the part as it was written. He didn't play book Dumbledore because, after Harris died, Kloves wrote - and Cuaron directed - a new Dumbledore: energized, amusing, powerful, and very human. Gambon is great in the role. Book-thumpers just have to accept a different interpretation of their favorite cliche.

  • @DrFlaxWebFLOO I do not "have to" accept it, nor will I. They butchered this character as thoroughly as if they had made Vito Corleone a philanthropist or Hannibal Lecter a vegetarian. I only wish Rowling had stepped in and exercised what clout she could in order to stop this travesty (de facto, she did have some say in all this). *THUMP THUMP*

  • @scarabmango They made Dumbledore a better character. There's nothing to complain about. Rowling loves Gambon.

  • @DrFlaxWebFLOO Rowling loves Gambon? What's your source for that?

  • @scarabmango POA interviews and HBP interviews.

  • @DrFlaxWebFLOO If she said that, there's no way she really meant it. Interviews like that are no more representative of truth than reality TV. They're just glorified promotional material, and Rowling was likely pressured into saying that to expedite the process. I would never lump her in with the kind of sellout hacks that would actually be cool with such a pivotal character being mishandled so terribly.

  • @scarabmango That's your opinion. However, Gambon is an acclaimed theater and film actor, and I think - as do many other Potter fans without wild hares up their asses - that he is an exemplary Dumbledore, better than that dull walking corpse Richard Harris. Harris is a great actor in his own right, but he's an awful Dumbledore. There's no life in him.

  • @DrFlaxWebFLOO Yeah, you're not the first person I've heard bring up Gambon's acclaim/respect/recognition/whatever. That contributes *zilch* to your argument. His acclaim comes from playing characters that suited him, which Dumbledore does not. You think the *real* fans of the books consider Gambon an "exemplary" Dumbledore? Please. Only the dumbest, most superficial fans of the commercialized "McPotter" franchise would say that. In other words, people who don't truly grasp the character.

  • @scarabmango That's silly. There's not much character to grasp, mate. Gambon's performance truly adds a new dimension to a tried and dull archetype.

Furthermore, Potter IS just that - commercialized and overblown. When Rowling hit it big, the quality of the books became more and more terrible. Book 7 was a travesty.

  • @DrFlaxWebFLOO Most every character in fiction fits one or more archetypes. Gambon adds a "new dimension" to the old, wise, bearded wizard? The Merlin, The Gandalf, and "The Gambledore?" Not true, and I sense you're intelligent enough to know it, even though you wrote that. The archetype portrayed by Gambon isn't any wizard *at all.* It's the cranky old drunk who curses at children to get them off his lawn. All they did was hand that archetype a wand and call it "Albus Dumbledore."

  • @scarabmango I understand your point of view, but I disagree on Dumbledore - or Gambledore as you put it. First and foremost, I think that Gambon's portrayal of Dumbledore is discredited because 1) The circumstances in which he took over for Harris, and 2) A few scenes in GOF. Because the Harry Potter films are much more blunt than the books, the characters are stripped down, or far more obvious. I think Gambon's Dumbledore is the other side of book Dumbledore...

  • @scarabmango (Continued) The Machiavellian bastard that he's supposed to be. Dumbledore is very angry in GOF because, in the context of the film, he is losing control of things. He can't find the missing pieces to the puzzle, and it's driving him mad. In POA and HBP, Dumbledore was very close to the books; in OOTP, the only time he was different was during that one scene (Don't you all have studying to do). People just can't get over Harris' death, and some bad directing choices.

  • @DrFlaxWebFLOO Directing *and* writing choices. But I want your opinion on something. My two greatest selections for a post-Harris Dumbledore would have been Christopher Lee or David Warner. Both awesome, both tall, both with amazing voices. If a darker, grittier Dumbledore was called for, either of them would have been *perfect.* Wouldn't you agree that either of these men could have made a better, more formidable, and more true-to-form Dumbledore than Gambon?

  • @scarabmango I don't know about Lee. I don't think the public would be able to separate the villains he has played in the past with such a kind character. Warner is an interesting choice, considering his reputation for playing scary characters. I always thought Christopher Plummer would be good, but he's not all that tall. I'm a Gambon fan, so there' already a bias there. ;) It's funny, though; he's more like book Dumbledore off screen than he is onscreen.

  • @DrFlaxWebFLOO And they did not make Dumbledore a "better" character. They DISGRACED the character of Albus Dumbledore by casting a completely inappropriate actor and by writing inappropriate dialogue. "DON'T YOU ALL HAVE STUDYING TO DO?!" is as fitting for Dumbledore as "Let's attend a Bar Mitzvah!" is for Hitler. They chose a pudgy, rough-voiced man to play a tall, thin, kindly, dignified wizard! And then the writing sucked too! They should be fucking KILLED!!!

  • @scarabmango You're absurd. They showed a human Dumbledore, not just a Wise Old Mentor copy. He's actually closer to Book 7 Dumbledore. Richard Harris had no humor in the role. He was just an old man on his last leg.

They should be killed for interpreting a character differently, and did not live up to your expectations? Are you sure that you're 29?

  • @DrFlaxWebFLOO No, my thinking that I'm a different age might change chronology, dickhead. I wonder why old, wrinkly actresses don't just think themselves younger.

  • @DrFlaxWebFLOO Yes, I'm quite sure that I'm 29, person who was nine years old when I was in college. Thank you for asking. : )

  • Most of the problems you seem to have, and I did have in the past, with Gambon's portrayal, such as his look, demeanor, etc., I blame on director Alfonso Cauron's over-the-top interpretation of the Prisoner of Azkaban. Then, come Goblet of Fire, Mike Newell had to keep some consistency. It all changed for the Order of the Phoenix onward, after David Yates took the helm. I don't blame Gambon for anything, and actually really liked him in 5 & 6

  • i also hate the new dumbledor i was sad when he died in the book but i was excited that he died in the movie r.i.p richard harris

  • lol 6th book was boring? I expect it was cuz there wasn't enough action, eh?

  • @dugganater well, the back-story on Voldemort was certainly very interesting. But in the real world, nothing much was happnening.

  • @Kachukeland The book contains important character development for Harry, Ron, Hermione, even Draco.

  • @dugganater not really. Draco, sure, but the trio didn't do much to evolve their characters. Ron played some quidditch, and that doesn't really count.

But this review isn't of book 6, just Michael Gambon's portrayal of Dumbledore. Did you see my review of book 7?

  • @Kachukeland I have.

  • WELL.

Dumbledore was supposed to be calm and affectionate to students

but RAAAWR FEAR ME!!!! to enemies.

So yeah, a blend would have been better.

(he shouldn't be yelling at Harry for everything but also shouldn't be shaking his finger like a kind old grandpa at Voldiemort.)

Annnd: maybe he was the only very old man they could find who could make it through hours and hours of work and stunts without, you know, dying before the next movie?

  • Yes, WHY exactly did they tie his beard like that..

  • 1:47 "Dont u all have studying to do!!??" what a douche.

  • Gandalf>dumbledore... just saying.

  • @afterthefact15

Gandalf should have been Dumbledore. Dx

  • I agree that Harris was a much better dumbledore, but Gambon is till really good.

  • boring? clearly not

  • gambon looks like a drunk, senile child molester

  • I totally agree with you about Richard Harris as Dumbledore. He was so perfect!!! But I hate Gambon's Dumbledore even in the HP6.

  • Talk for yourself. I personally prefer Michael Gabon as Dumbledore.

  • I never actually noticed that Dumbledore was played by two different characters until 2 years ago. I was too young and i didn't know that. I thought magic was real. I even thought cartoons were real characters. :P Good times

  • Richard Harris was a Cocaine addict.

  • Hey! I recently watched harry potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and Dumbledore answered Lucious' question by saying "Voldemort" not "yo mamma"

But great videos! I love Richard Harris, he was kind, gentle, and smart.

I hate Michael Gambon he's irrascable, aggressive, and confused.

  • @HaydenStudios lol, no, he says "yo mama." It's right there in the video! just kidding

  • @Kachukeland did you notice Gambon's finger nails in the POA movie? You know the scene when the fat lady was slashed up? It was so distracting to me I could hardly focus on the rest of that scene because of how they looked.

  • you have to make dumbledore struggle at least a bit in a fight with Voldemort. If he was totally relaxed-seeming, it would downplay voldemort's power

  • @DesperadoBlack i disagree, it would upplay Dumbledore's power. To me, Dumbledore seemed weak, and lucky to be alive after it was all over.

  • Narrator : "CAN THIS BE THE REAL DUMBLEDORE???"

    Hagrid: "No... NO... :("

    LMAO

  • 3:01 Ian McKellen much?

  • REAL Dumbledore can smile. And that's what Harris did! -.-. Gambon sucks!

  • your momma lol!!

  • So he doesn't like the book or the movie.

  • I thought this when i was little. This guy sauntered on and everyone pretended this guy was Dumbledore. I knew he wasn't. I was aware that actors changed and whatnot, but the man simply was not Dumbledore.

Good to know i'm not alone.

  • it's a shame Richard Attenborough is to fat otherwise he would have made a perfect Dumbledore

  • One question: Why the hate for the actor? He is pretty much the last person to have any say on how to act a scene or how the beard is supposed to look like. If you want to blame someone, blame the director.

  • Holy crap, someone understands how I feel. O_O I agree with you completely!

  • i cant imagine a richard harris dumbledore fighting voldy in book 5

  • @Puppy21346 I don't see why, since that's exactly what I imagined while reading that part of the book. In any event, this fight was completely mishandled in the film adaptation. Instead of the cool, collected Dumbledore we're supposed to be seeing, we get Gambon grimacing and grunting in some stupid "energy clash" straight from the pages of Dragonball Z. As petulant as it sounds, there are times when I just want to beat up the people who make these movies.

  • @scarabmango i agree that gambon shouldnt have look as though he waz surpiseed and i also agree that the fight was mishandled there were pointless parts added and good parts left out but i did like the glass and how voldy possed him through the sand even though it would be obvious that u could see sand voldy moving oward harry and he should have hauled ass away from the sand and i also hated how gambon looked while harry was being possed

  • Dumbledore in movie 6 became a Gandalf clone... and yes... he was much better and much more "Dumbledore"y" in movies 1 & 2... the thing that was weirdest for me was that his acting and make-up made him look like he got younger in movie 3. They could have at least TRIED to make him look as old as Harris... and yes... whoever let him/instructed him to "get mad" was in the wrong... I blame the director on all counts for the Dumbledore debacle...

  • To those who say Harris could not have been convincing in the fight scenes, let me put this in your lap and connect the dots for you: SPECIAL EFFECTS MAKE UP FOR THAT! Was Christopher Lee a young man when he played Count Dooku? Hell no, but he had doubles and CGI to pick up the slack! Will you people just THINK FOR ONE FUCKING SECOND?!

  • Well you cant blame Dumbledore for cranking at Umbridge, shes a biotch

  • Totally should have cast Christopher Plummer to replace the deceased Harris.

  • This is a BRILLIANT review! I couldn't agree more :)

  • Richard Harris was definitely the better Dumbledore for the first two films, because those were the most pleasent books in the series. However, I think we can all agree that, were Harris alive today, Dumbledore would be ruined by him in the 3rd movie onward. Michael Gambon plays Dumbledore excellently in all of his appearances, simply because the 3rd book is when the actual depth and emotion and backstory of Dumbledore come in. Harris would never have been able to pull it off.

  • @KirKir21 Speak for yourself, because I don't agree with ANY of that. Harris was a great actor who would not only have "pulled off" Dumbledore in the remaining films but continued to excel in the part. Gambon's involvement with this series has been a farce in casting, acting, directing and even wardrobe. Actors like Christopher Lee and David Warner should never have been passed over in favor of Gambon, and frankly, I would have refused to cast him after one look at his un-Dumbledore GUT!

  • @scarabmango I would have refused to cast Richard Harris as Dumbledore after one look at his un-Dumbledore frailty.

  • Comment removed

  • @scarabmango IMO Harris was just the Dumbledore any true HP fan could identify with and suited the role perfectly.Gambon is a fine actor but a terrible Dumbledore.Part of it is because of the unnecessary changes in script writing and part of it is because Gambon doesn't care enough to read the books to adapt to Dumbledore's character or take advice from Rowling.IMO Sir Ian McKellan or Patrick Stewart would be good choices.Christopher Lee has a more darker presence

  • Snape didn't kill Dumbledore. Gambon did.

  • This was funny and awseome!

  • "YOUR MOMMA"

    lolwut, I died laughing.

  • Gambon:

    PoA: :/ Well,not bad...

GoF: !! :O !! He scared me!!! A bit nervous.

    OoTP: o.O :( :>/ nervous... Confused...

HBP: Not bad... He was just bored, but he is best in HBP,because of hair... Why does he need that rubber bands for hair on his bread?

  • Richard was so cool and elegant... huh, this ARRRGH-Dumbledore looks like a drunk... Gambon is good actor, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT for Dumbledore.

    Drunk XD

  • People who are pissed because Gambon didn't "research" the role need to get the fuck over it. DUMBLEDORE IS NOT A FRIGGIN CHAUCER CHARACTER! There's no research required. Gambon has played weighty, deep characters over his forty year career. Dumbledore is just a paycheck. That said, I love his Dumbledore. Removes the cliche from the character.

  • i so loled at 3:51

  • what does kudos mean?

  • "yo mama"

    "how dare you"

    LMFAO!! xD

  • dumbledore = 115

    voldemort = 71

yeah cooler... RH kicking his ass

  • This review is too hilarious! Everytime Michael Gambon comes out on the screen it's like watching the old man from the black lagoon come out wanting to attack people O.O

  • dude, have you read the 5th book?

dumbledore WAS scared and he DID have trouble blocking hits but he still did it.

I'm not saying I like Micheal because I like Richard, but that doesn't mean I like people making up their own stories about what Dumbeldore did.

But I have to agree, he took the kindness lout of Dumbeldore, he yells a lot in the previous movies

  • Dumbledore didn't act concerned for his own safety, only Harry's. With his own huge power and the greatest wand in history, it's not like he was in real danger of losing the fight.

It was yet another scene botched by the "Gambon experience" because he *did* act like he was scared and struggling against Voldemort.

  • reread the battle in the fifth book. they were pretty evenly matched, but dumbledore was more in charge. nothing like the movie

  • and the movie was for shIt

  • i dont agree whith u whith x things

in the part that dumbledore fight whith lord voldemort, dumbledore was the only wizard that voldemort was scared so i think dumbledore got like the same power as voldemort, just dumbledore dont use dark arts couse he is too noble..

well anyways my favorite dumbledore is michael gambom he is more serius (LOL i think richard harris was like a fucking lazy old man lol) and stuff

    MICHAEL GAMBOM WINS LOL

  • bullsh*t Sir fuck killed Dumbleore

  • They made him look more like Gandalf, which I am sure is no accident, and I am sure JK partially based Dumbledore on Gandalf, who would for better or worse, have kicked Voldy's ass in about a second... I know you can't cross compare, but Gandalf kicks ass, Dumbledore is kinda like Santa Claus...

  • I think Voldemort would beat Gandalf with ease. With his huge power and repertoire of spells? Please.

    Here's the fight:

    Gandalf: YOU!...SHALL!...NOT!...

    Voldemort: AVADA KEDAVRA!

What does Gandalf have on that? The ability to shine light out of his staff? Ha.

  • You're talking about "movie Gandalf"

    Longer comment on your page...

  • lol Gandalf really doesn't do that much magic does he? he throws peeps around and makes em' a torch

  • @scarabmango Technically Gandalf cannot die. And, he doesn't have to split his soul into to pieces to stick around either. He could also break Voldemort's wand with ease.

Gandalf: Voldemort, your wand is broken.

    Voldemort: O_O"!?

    Read LotR.

  • @theredpriest I have read it, along with The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, and Unfinished Tales. LotR was the centerpiece of a college course in fantasy literature that I took years ago. The prof was one of the Dragonlance authors.

  • SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

  • why do you pick on michael gambon?

    -his costume was the costume

    -departments fault

-his beard was the makeup departments fault

-his yelling was the writers fault.

-the fact that he yelled was the directors fault (should have corrected him)

  • Valid points there, but in all honesty, if I'd been in charge, I doubt things would have progressed to the point that all those things even became factors.

I'm not kidding when I say I would have taken one look at Gambon and instantly said "Um...no." This would have been based simply on the fact that he's not the right height or build to be Dumbledore.

His voice is also naturally too rough; it doesn't convey the culture and serene wisdom Dumbledore should have.

  • Actually, read some of Gambon's interviews....he SPECIFICALLY states (repeatedly) that the dumbledore he portrays now (mean loud hitler) is exactly how he wanted to portray dumbledore.

  • even so its still the directors fault for letting him do that

actors sometimes do think they know whats best when they clearly dont

  • @Mawiely He's NEVER said "This is how I wanted to portray Dumbledore" or "That's how I'd like to portray Dumbledore". He just goes with the flow, let's the director direct him as he sees fit. Just like an actor is EMPLOYED to do. You liar.

  • ok, and why did he decide to give Dumbledore an Irish accent (and that WAS his descision) when there is no mention of him being from Ireland in the books?

  • umm

maybe because michael gambon IS irish......

  • OH DUMBLEDORE IS NOT IRISH!

  • @Pinkstonnaked Richard Harris was Irish. Which means by your logic HE should not have played Dumbledore either.

  • @seraduha1 I mean the character. Harris was not agressive and when he was he was commanding! Gam come off as grumpy out of control and basically an idiot which Dumbledore is anything but grumpy out of control and an idiot

Remember he is the master Puppeteer!

  • Sir fuck head said he slapped on the beard and played himself

  • in the scene just after 3 minutes, he looks a lot like Gandalf

  • He was improved a lot in this film, its like they actually listened despite its only a small number of fans that are complaining, most people don't care or realize, which is very sad,

I wonder what jk things about it.

Thinking back, i remember some of the scenes they cut now, mistake to change the ending and why was the harry-ginny bit in the room of requirement !

The book end was very sad but not the film. why has it taken gambon 3 films to become a shadow of harris.

  • Yeah, that annoys me aswell. Why so little fans that are complaining about this portrayal of dumbledore? Dumbledore is one of the best characters in the books, and they screwed himover, yet no-one says anything!

  • HE still is NOT Dumbledore

  • Gambon was the best in Half-Blood Prince. He was still more energetic then Richard Harris was though.

  • Just saw the movie a few hours ago. In my opinion, Gambon's portrayal was a modest improvement at best.

Still too short, still too chubby, still looks clueless and aloof when he should look commanding and insightful, and still doesn't convey that trademark "twinkly-eyed" Dumbledore kindness.

Oh, but they fixed his beard and he doesn't yell and manhandle Harry. Big deal. That's like rejoicing over an improvement from 30 percent correct to 40 percent correct, both abysmal F's on any test.

  • lol well said!

but as far as a test improvement comparison goes, I would say Gambon went from a 0% F to a 85% B. And that's worth noting.

  • That's quite some generosity from you of all people, but as you more or less said, it's all moot now that we're stuck with him.

As expected, I felt absolutely nothing for "Dumbledore" during the potion-drinking scene, and my only reaction to his death was "Would someone get Rickman a Red Bull already?" The guy couldn't have done more sleepwalking if his character's name was Severus Snooze.

I was waiting for Bella to say "No no, when you say Avada Kedavra, you need to *mean* it, Severus."

  • Agreed on that part. I really felt they botched Snapes scene. It made it plainly obvious, even to those who hadn't read the last book, what the next plot point reveal involving Snape would be.

  • when have they not butchered this characters

Mad Eye tongue flick man who looks like mister pirate man

  • @Kachukeland exactly how I would have put it sir.

  • @scarabmango It might be worth pointing out, Gambon is six foot tall, and inch shorter than Harris. Harris only appeared so tall because of how frail he was. At least Kachukeland is gracious enough to admit the vast improvement in his performance. Then there are the moronic people like you, who would refuse to give him credit even if he did turn out a performance to match Harris's. Which, in this film, I believe he succeeded in.

  • @seraduha1 You're entitled to your opinion, but personal (to say nothing of completely inaccurate) insults contribute nothing to a discussion.
