I know about privilege. Starting in public school I was relieved of the ability to form clubs based on my nationality, every reward/scholarship had as a criterion something about "diversity", every college had a blurb about considering "diversity" in admissions. When I made it in on my own merits, more diverse people were given the first shot at departmental jobs regardless of their grades. Etc. This has continued into the working world where my whiteness still helps me. I am so privileged.

You're right there are many different biases in the world, and they all are equally oppressive. Nonethless, some are universal, and others only benefit in one direction. For example, while both POCs and white can be racist, only whites benefit. Same goes for sexism, and heterosexism.

I, a white person, found this subject of privileges a VERY hard pill to swallow, but it is all very true. I know about privilege. Starting in public school I was relieved of the ability to form clubs based on my nationality, every reward/scholarship had as a criterion something about "diversity", every college had a blurb about considering "diversity" in admissions. When I made it in on my own merits, more diverse people were given the first shot at departmental jobs regardless of their grades. Etc. This has continued into the working world where my whiteness still helps me. I am so privileged.

@TheDaddyDank Bias and privilege are not the same. Bias is intentional; privilege is not. To dismiss the disproportionate incarceration of people of color as a simple "bias" is beyond insulting. You're right there are many different biases in the world, and they all are equally oppressive. Nonethless, some are universal, and others only benefit in one direction. For example, while both POCs and white can be racist, only whites benefit. Same goes for sexism, and heterosexism.
