There's no point trying to rationalise the pinings of a crazy out-dated fascist and it is stupid-perhaps it is effective, but I would've expected better from a real intellectual.
Whilst in the East, where indeed a lot of the fundamentalism does need reconstruction, and the outlook is very fucking bleak especially with some of these irrational outspoken people, however this is very difficult when western so-called "liberated" media continues to dominate the airwaves, and by 'liberated' I mean trash t.v. etc--see his interviews on 'pregnant widow' and the "scarring" the enforced sexual revolution caused on one guy.
And that is the real issue here---The West still have this 'christian crusade&missionary'-complex-see how they invade and destroy in the name os instilling democracy and democratic 'maturity'. There is a famous Nigerian play about how the missionaries would destroy villages and age-old traditions because they didn't "understand them"
It think it would be far easier to assume that everyone else is wrong-THAT would be real naivete!-does he not also condem lack of self introspection when speaking of this muslim fanatic----with these powerful Western nations that have a finger in everyone's pie and most of the time quite illegally, it would be foolish for them to assume moral superiority all the time.
I don't think Martin Amis is being very rational at all. He's driven by a love--something he admits to (see 'Experience' or how 'Rachel Papers' comes about, growing up with Saul Bellow etc)-and complete servitude and loyalty to the Zionist Jews he has grown up with.
What we see in the media about Muslims is very distorted, we get pictures and speeches from Muslim 'representatives' that say very little and simply repeat crazy ideologies.#
Oh please, just shut the fuck up. He doesn't have to know who he is. He's a news reporter. You probably didn't know who he was until this video. Cunt.
love amis! Read his latest book "the second plane". He's been taken horribly out of context by the islington dinner party circuit. He's really quite nice & liberal. He thinks very clearly.
Sean10, Christianity, in time reformed itself and reformed its ideas - this was called, wait for it 'the reformation'. Islam will reform itself given time. Christians supposedly believe the bible is the word of god, as do Muslims, but christians no longer act in this manner. They grew up a little.
Bit harsh, your comment - you accuse me of conveying nothing, but perhaps if you understand what I'd said, you wouldn't be attacking me without cause. Don't drink and post.
But at least he wouldn't spell 'novelists' with two l's. Islam is basically medieval, and hasn't gone through a much needed reformation. It has a long, long way to go. The sooner humanity grows up and jettisons all religion, the better.
How does it reform itself? Muslims believe the koran is the word of god. It's infallible. This gives them very little wiggle room for more moderate interpretation.

Fatuous comments about my ham fisted keyboard technique and its impact on my spelling aside, Amis's rhetoric justifies the appalling actions of US and UK governments in Islamic countries; actions that have led to hundreds of thousands of deaths. His half-arsed ahistorical genuflections on Islam(ism) as uniquely evil is asinine. His essay describing horrorism is from the Stephen King version of literary experience and allusion.
the most appalling actions in 'islamic countires' (you've given up something by saying that in the first place) are done by islamists....if your real objection were humanitarian you might have mentioned this

This is simply wrong! The US attacks on Fallujah TWICE. The attacks on Najaf. The systematic destruction through bombing of Iraq's infrastructure, sewage, sanitation, power systems and so on! All WAR CRIMES by the way, have resulted in the deaths of HUNDREDS of thousands of people! Then there are the BRUTAL sanctions in the 90s and the ongoing bombing campaigns that continue as I write! The best way to REDUCE terrorism is simple, DON'T ENGAGE IN IT!
He seems hell bent on slandering Islamism though...not all islamists are women hating psycos are they?
He's clearly at war with Islam.
I also get the impression that he's winding us up a bit to amuse himself. It could be a power thing too. Amis probably feels that the masses are too stupid to catch on to the fact that he doesn't believe much of what he's saying. Maybe he doesn't like people so he's trying to scare the shit out of them by preaching nucleur annihilation.
People in west doesnt hear or i think THEY DONT WANT TO HEAR about the massacres that happened in lebanon, QANA and other citys by Israel. Do u really think that israel went to war because of 2 kidnapped soldiers??? they were planing for the war long time ago.. But doesnt matter if the hole world is aganist us, belive me it doesnt matter because we will be victorious in middleeast soon and very soon..
I just want to say that in your eyes ( west ) HEzbollah are terorists but in our eyes they are freedom fighters.. Why call a resistence who defend their country for terrorists??? Who begun the terror in the middleeast?? Dont let ur hate bllind u.. And Islam is not as this fucking mofti said.. In islam the womans have rights exactly like man and in islam the woman is more worth than a man....
Yeah thats the truth, u wanna belivie it be my guest but in the end what the west paints u to se u belivie in it so fuck that... But we all know what the christians crusades did and what ur biggest regimes did so i leave it to that....
The left has allways defended monsters, they are useful. Choosing between one monster and another does not stop the fact that are both monsters, whether it is Nazism or Communism, Israel or Hezbolla.

Amis is talking UTTER rubbish! He shows quite clearly that modern writers, particularly novellists, basically know nothing.
