Amazing! I used to think the Chinese and Xhosa's were nuts! I hadn't seen anything yet! Really cool though! If you really want to be mesmerized by a continuous flow of clicks, cross to Botswana to hear the San speak. It's like nature's crazy experiment but fascinating to listen to, and they are the most pleasant people ever!
im looking like an idiot sitting in front of my pc doing weird sounds haha.. clicking sounds are soo so interesting, pity, that its in no widely spoken language. really want to learn such a language
can you please help me understand the difference between the ! and the # ?? how does the tongue move differently for each one? does it touch the teeth? when i try to do both of these clicks, they sound the same. :(
@RickyLeighJr According to genetic research, the Khoikhoi/Khoisan/San Bushmen are the closest living group that descended from the earliest humans. The direct ancestors of the San left Africa and populated the rest of the world. This language gave birth to the rest of the languages we speak today, and because it was the first language, it didn't need to prove uniqueness to anyone... Since the San are victims of genocide today in Botswana, this language will soon become extinct, just FYI...
firstly, what tells you that this is for the sake of being unique? how can it possible have anything to do with that? secondly, why should the language be inefficient? maybe it is even extremely efficient.
Wow, that is amazing! Thank you so much for showing us! It is so vital the Khoisan remain proud and recognized as southern Africa's truly original inhabitants. I hope to one day visit Namibia.
Can you explain what the click sounds mean, when you use them? Would the sentence be understood without the click sounds? Are they comparable to letters?
I used to think Americans were crazy when they made click sounds trying to speak an African language. Now i know i am the crazy one who doesn't know my continent.
does anyone know if there's any truth to the idea that clicks were used b/c they for whatever reason disturb wildlife less than our modern tongue does, which would be really useful when you're hunting?
