  • WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE SONG

  • i think its called TH. i found the song on limewire.

  • yes its called TH abbreaviated but actually its toujours humble

  • Thanks! I appreciate your responses. I'm going to go and check out that show. I'll also check out your first suggestion. Also, I wanted to say that years ago I met an African student from the nation that was called Zaire. Wherever he is now I wish him well. I also wish you well, soukous70, as I do all other good people throughout the world.

  • Greetings, I'm an African American woman who is trying to learn about African culture.

I really like this song but would someone please share what they are singing about. Also is this soukous? If not, what kind of music is this?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Azizip! This, technically,is not soukous, but a style called n'dombolo. It definitely has its roots in soukous music, and it had its start around the 1990's. Here on youtube, many videos share both 'soukous' and 'n'dombolo' tags,so they mix together, making it slightly harder for the untrained ear to differentiate. The one great thing they both have in common is called the 'sebene' which is that nice, exiting guitar part of the song.

  • Thanks for that information, soukous70.

One great thing about YouTube is the opportunities it provides for people to learn about different cultures throughout the world. For instance, I'd never heard of n'dombolo before. I'm eager to learn more!

And btw, with regard to this particular song, what language is this and in general, what are they singing about?

    Best wishes,

    Azizi

  • The title of the song is "always humble".Congolese music in general is in French or Lingala, often both in the same song.Good luck finding a fluent Lingala speaker to translate for you,I'm of almost no help there! There is a great radio show that you can listen to online, called Africa Kabisa,it's aired out of Boston,USA.Google that name and you should find it easily. The great thing about the show is that there is always great explanation of the songs and musicians that they play.A great program!

  • Also try 'soul of Africa' on BETJAZZ channel,if you have that cable station, its an hour long video show with music from all over Africa.

  • BTW Africa Kabisa show is on from 4 to 6 pm on sundays, streaming live(its on right now!)on the WMBR website, but there is also a yahoo group of the same name with a nice archive of shows from past airings.

  • He is sayin that he is the champ, therefore there is nothing really to worry about, especially the haters. It's a party song. There are more messages than what I've just gave you. Think of this clib just as a southern type Hip-Hop. It's for a party. You can't dance you go home. lol... It deals with a lot of proverbs doh

  • it called ndombolo.

  • The style of music is not called Ndombolo, it's called Congolese Rumba. West Africans calls it Ndombolo cause Ndombolo was a very successful dance move. Alos, It did not start in the 1990s. It goes way back 1930s or beyond. It is a combination of multiple African Cultures put into one. The language they sing in is usually Lingala, but most of the time, they use various African dialects. Enjoy the music, if there is any other question feel free to ask. 1
