@TaylorFearne the exact same thing happend to me. I ended downloading itunes onto another computer I had and updated and restored my ipod on that one and it worked. Im not sure if it'll work for you but its worth a try.

Everything you said works, but when I hit restore it says extracting firmware and then it shows the restore screen on my ipod then it powers off before I can finish and its says - unable to restore unknown error occured (28).
