  • Your wish is coming true @chesterflamingo ... they're recording a new album right now!

  • Cant get enough of this song..

  • This video was just added to a music playlist at JustPlay.fm

  • Don't listen to this after watching The Notebook... Waterworks plus, lol

  • they did play together again in 2008. one of the best day of my entire life.

  • @flowerofsilver I moved to Chapel Hill, NC a bit too late!

  • @lesap 1 Honey it gets to a managable level. The pain never goes away you just get used to it. My youngest son died one year ago Feb 2nd. He was a gifted musician and is the one who turned me on th Ben Folds Five...I have all ideas he is with all those that went before him kickin it up in that big band in the sky...you will meet again. Hold tight to that thought and may it sustain you while you take in all these earthly sounds...and dont forget to smile...

  • i feel like ive definitely heard this song somewhere, but anyways i love it!:)

  • Reminds me of REM slightly, this is a great band.

  • UChicago: "Voices In Your Head" does a great cover of this. ->

  • this is my show choir song this year:)

  • Wow why does this song have so many more views than almost every other Ben Folds song?? Not that I'm saying it's a bad song, I just didn't think it was this popular. Is it on a soundtrack or something?

  • omg this song makes me cry idk why but it does i love this song from the first time i heard it in choir

  • goosebumps all round

  • Great song, Great group. Makes enough sense to me.

  • reminds me "and leaves that are green" by s&g

  • @Stillillgal that's weird, reminded me of "the boxer" by S&G because of the 'la la la' part with the heavy drum sound.

  • Its weird, usually I don't like hearing artists cover other people's songs because I think it's really un-original. But, my god, every time I hear a song Ben Folds (Five) cover, it just amazes me. I absolutely love all their cover songs. And this one is one of my favorite songs, of all time. Love it.

  • @MyRingoism This is not a cover of anything; Darren Jessee was the drummer of Ben Folds Five, and he wrote this song for the group.

  • @Mirrormn Oh, okay. I dont know why I assumed it was a cover. My bad. But The song "Such Great Heights" that he does with out the group is pretty amazing too. Well, thanks for clearing that up for me friend. Much appreciated.

    Peace&Love

  • Somehow this song helps my tears dry. All of these emotional songs by Ben Folds Five are so good to listen to when you're upset.

  • MArching band had this playing while we got on the field and set up. Alas this song came to have more of a meaning for me whan a freshman member of the band passed away.

  • It really is quite a shame that these guy broke up. it defenatly a song like this that makes a band.

  • THE BROKE UP?! Sorry i just started listening to ben fols five yesterday... ):

  • It was a good thing they did, Ben Folds solo stuff is so much better.

  • It's less raw and more commercial. Guess that's better in some people's eyes

  • Listen to the studio version from the CD called "Ben Folds Presents: University A Cappella" in iTunes - it's far superior to the You Tube version which is a bit rough round the edges.

  • there's an a capella version of this. it's stunning. definitely does this song justice.

  • Yeah - it's sung by a group from University of Chicago called "Voices In Your Head". Fantastic version I agree. But this version by Ben sends shivers down my spine - and just the hint of a little moisture around the eyes!!!!

  • beautiful song

  • maeshay2: Don't be sad. One day you'll be together again. The title of this song is... magic...

  • A classic for sure, gotta love Ben Folds

  • I have always loved this song. Played this at my Moms funeral last year. A beautiful song for both of my parents. Miss

    you both so much!

  • I wud have picked the same. Gud job

  • @BabesandBeer

wtf You don't laugh at someone whose parent's died.

  • @BabesandBeer CUNT!

  • @BabesandBeer What a shame you feel the need to post something like that. I'll do all I can to hope that one day you'll realise that it was wrong. Although, I think you know that already.

  • @maeshay2 along with this song that must've been too sad to bear.

  • @maeshay2 , bless your heart. I understand. I wish I could say it gets easier, but it doesn't. This really is not our home, but they are home now, for eternity.

  • @lesap1 Thank you! My Dad passed away in 94 and still miss him like crazy. My mom passed in 2008. I think she left us to go meet with my Dad. She was never the same after he was gone. True Love!

  • @maeshay2

How heartbreaking for you. I'm glad this song was able to give you a small bit of joy in the midst of such a sad situation.

  • @maeshay2 My mom passed away 6 years ago and this song still reminds me of that time, and usually brings me to tears.

  • @maeshay2 My thoughts Exactly ..... but shes been gone 6 years now

  • @maeshay2 Aww thats beautiful :(

  • timpani = <3

  • talented guys right out my home state i love this group and always will

  • A living legend.

  • Epic..........this song changed my life. 2 great children a great wife and a war.......funny.

  • Love the timpani...

Did Jessee write the song himself?

  • Yes

  • i thought this was like an oldies song... NICE! :)

  • i remember this song when i was 18 and we were in ccp in manila with some friends and relatives. it was a cozy summer night, 1999.

  • This album is a masterpiece.

  • Comment removed

  • This is the original version

  • simply gorgeous and a just the right amount of melancholy... I love it... this album is amazing as well...

  • WOW Beuatiful song -

  • THIS IS MY FAOURITE SONG EVER!

  • You've just made my day!

I've been singing this in my head all day searched for it and Voila.

    Amazing song!

  • youre the magic that holds the sky up

saw you last night danced by the light of themoon

    stars in your eyes

free from the life that you knew

  • umm sixteen gon be seventeen in a month is that not old enough to love this song?

  • heck nah ive loved it since i was 15 or younger and still lovin it

  • ROFL STALKER

  • lol i dunno if we meant to respond to me[the notification said so], but i'm 25 xD? why you ask tho?

  • Ben Folds solo is nowhere near as powerful as BFF was. I haven't bought his stuff in ages. It makes me so sad that these guys went separate ways :|

  • don't be too sad, there's talk of reunions....

  • =0 oh, that would be great. i am kinda mad tho cos ben redid a bunch of their older demo stuff that I'd always hoped they were redo together... and the demos all sounded so much cooler than the ben solo remakes. maybe they'll redo some of the others tho. [i really always wished they'd redo rocky~ such a good song]

  • Wow. My teacher in Piano teacher played this today. And I loved his version....He even put tacs inside of the Piano like Ben Folds did in that one part. But hearing this song compared to my teachers.....This one is even more stunning and amazing.

  • wth this is REALLY GOOD

  • lines of light, days of night. ocean land cool dawn, like a horseshoe

  • must've been kind of frustrating to be one of the other two members, as ben always got the credit

  • that's what i was thinking too

  • I love this song..

  • this song is a gorgeous little heartbreaker... one of my all-time favorite tunes... oh so talented!!!...

  • Nice montage.. Darren Jessee is the sexiest man alive.

  • reunion tonight in Chapel Hill!!!!

  • Actually, Darren Jessee wrote several Ben Folds Five songs and co-wrote most of the others. Ben admitted that Darren was better wtih hooky choruses than he!

Anyway, catch Darren Jessee with "Hotel Lights". He's still a great song writer, and he's got an interesting voice as well!

  • even though i am now nearly 30 i have always had a major girl crush on darren since he visited australia in 1997. I loved the way the harmonics worked on the bff tracks.

  • this is by darren! i love him even more. this is my favourite song of bff.

  • Haha i already love hotel lights. I stumbled across it about a year ago and then realised the connection!

  • Ben Folds Five Reunites for one night on sept 18th in chapel hill,nc...see you there

  • it's about a guy who's in love with someone and they die. Beautiful and sad tune

  • Beautiful record. The story goes that I went out with a girl in about 2001 who made me a mix tape of her favorite tracks. This song was the last song on the tape, and until now, I never knew who sang it. Thanks for upping this!

  • I love this song...it's so gorgeous.

  • jesse sure can write a tune. he also wrote amelia bright, a great song that was gonna be on the fourth record. check out the live bff performance of it. it's a shame they all split after a relatively short time.

  • Beautiful, just perfect!

  • What's the song about?

  • I think it's about the death of an elderly relative. The Ben Folds Five's drummer Darren Jesse wrote it, not Ben unusually for a BFF song.

  • Ben Folds has been doing similar material solo. If you havent checked it out you need to.

  • I want them to get back together too! I wish there was a way to show them that they would still do amazing...
