  • did rick barry did that style in all of his freethrows?

  • @flam3b0ne yeah he did, and he was pretty accuarate with it

  • He lives in Colorado his son Vs our school

  • "After Rick Barry makes his two free throws, and he WILL make his two free throws"

  • Red Auerbach: the best ever

  • LMAO I can't help but think about that Hey Arnold! episode when I see Rick Barry shoot free throws

  • Jamal Wilkes shoots similar to Larry Bird, sling shot behind the head, full release, full extension..so did Kevin McHale, Trent Tuker, Vinnie Johnson, and Oscar Schmidt...very effective, quick release, very difficult to block

  • @akrivosdiavolos73 as did manute bol....i remember one year with phili he made 6 threes....r.i.p manute.

  • i thought that the name of the game was basketball...

  • I only half agree with what Red Auerbach said - "you got to do what's best for you." I agree it should be that and also whatever looks sexier to women

  • Rick Barry doesn't shoot it he lobs the ball XD

  • MAN I THINK SHAWN MARION WATCHED THIS VIDEO!

  • good shit coach

  • jackie moon right here

  • Chris Smoove :)

  • sir yes sir

  • now we know where hanamichi sakuragi's freethrow came :))

  • rick barry is Hanamitchi Sakuragi..

    ^_^

  • That's his advice, "but make it" no kidding. I can't believe this guy is held in such high regard giving advice like this? There is a technique to shooting the ball and following through is the key.

  • @muddhole777 He's not held in high regard because of a 1 minute video about shooting free-throws, he's held in high regard because of his brilliant career as a coach, general manager and all around inovator of the game. On this particular video he gives pretty simple advice (although you should probably see the rest of the video to make wild assumptions "Red on Roundball") but some guys could've used it. Like Shaq, who just disregarded Barry's advice for him to shoot underhand.

  • @Whispererinthenoise I know exactly who Red Auerbach is, I just can't believe this is the advice he gave on this video which goes to show he was bullshit. Anybody walking the same path as he did would have had the same success. I bet it was mostly because of the color of his skin.

  • @muddhole777 How exactly does this show he was bullshit? He acknowledges that form wise both of these players FT is terrible according to what is teached, because he KNOWS what is teached. But he purposely brought out 2 guys with unconventional styles to get his point across. I also don't understand why you brought race over to this conversation, exactly what advantage did he have over the other WHITE coaches and GM's?

  • @Whispererinthenoise If he was black i could understand how you could say he didn't succeed because it's a racist society especially in those times, or if he was a white guy among other black coaches and GM's and succeed over them because he was white. But he was a white coach and GM among other white coaches and GM's! He was just better than them and did better decisions and planning. It wasn't just a good fluke decision, it was decades of smart notable moves! Give him the credit he deserves.

  • @muddhole777 WHAT?! If you're not gonna answer back with anything relevant just don't answer, it just makes you look condescending like you can't be bothered to explain how stupid the stuff i said is lol

  • Auerbach's right. In team sports it's very important to think with one's own brains, players have to remember not to follow the herd and only do what is considered 'cool' among other players. Who dares wins, that's the name of the game.

  • VINE AQUÍ POR EL ESTILO DE HANAMICHI SAKURAGI!!!!!

  • Three Legends! =)))

  • shaun marion saw this clip when he was a kid!

  • Shaq should've had this on his IPOD when he worked out, read this in his morning paper, and right after the soothing sounds of waves....put on headphones, and sleep to this clip.

  • I MISS RICK'S FREE THROWS ..

  • sakuragi brought me here

  • @theSolo33 same here..haha

  • sakuragi

  • He's totally right. Definitely puts Shawn Marion's weird shot into perspective. I was always thinking, "Why the hell would anyone shoot like that?" and now it makes more sense. Must just be the way he feels the most comfortable. He's a good mid-range shooter too.

  • Shaq should've watched this.

  • Jamaal's ft looked a lot worse when he was with the Lakers

  • hanamichi sakuragi freethrow :D rick barry

  • @twimaster94 yes! Tensai Sakuragi

  • G.O.A.T!

  • "Make it." That's some great advice. I need to write that down.

  • Hi God Brother it is me miss e w what u call me love u & family i was watching video drop a line what mother wilkes calls u sony LOL i see the boys playing . i get excited watching them take after u wish both our fathers could see them playing take care .love my other family always and forever 2011 E.W(VTA) kisses!

  • Yeah I agree to some extent but shooting form should be done by the correct techinque. Encourageing kids to shoot with poor techinque because it's feels right for them sometimes is not the best option. My shooting style use to be like throwing darts and was too slow to get off against defenders, a player I trained with recognised this.

  • imagine rick barry's jumpshot was like his free throw

  • That is why Red was the best coach ever.

  • i only came here because SLAM magazine had rick barry as number 21 on the 500 all time greatest and said something about unorthodox free throw. and it is.

  • i would rather shoot like that and make it, than shoot like Shaq and miss

  • @gatman1995 shaq's free throw shot is even uglier than this one

  • @death7178 whatever my point is that at least big men use to make the free throws unlike todays game where centers shoot 50%

  • @gatman1995 yeah shaq dwight bogut terrrible FT %

  • rick barry is automatic at the foul line.

  • it was good enough for John Wooden , Jamaal Wilkes and an NBA championship + an NCAA championship too . The game is score more than the other guy .

  • @dangerforme Rick Barry, Hall of Fame, 25,279 points, 89.3% FT(including 303 out of 322) in his last 2 seasons. He said and did some unpopular things but do things 'wrong' on the court? rarely.

  • @dangerforme Where did you play?

  • What a teacher. Not controlling and not demanding. Just make the free throw.

  • THE FREETHROW FORM OF RICK BARRY IS THE SAME AS SAKURAGI IN SLAMDUNK ANIME ^^,

  • What year was this video recorded??

  • Relax, follow through, but MAKE IT! To a winner he's lovable.

  • hahahahaa rick barry

  • Thats probably the best coaching advice ever lol Doesnt matter how you do it, just get the ball in the damn basket lol

  • Comment removed

  • best coach ever..

  • nah...john wooden is the best ever...

  • @psychhoo

what is the name of coach??

  • @ThEoLeDj

    Arnold Jacob "Red" Auerbach

  • yah me too watching slam dunk then searched rick barry ahaha/..

  • RIP Red Auerbach

  • followed by sakuragi hanamichi

  • haha i was just watching slam dunk and looked this up

  • YES!!! TOTALLY AGREE WITH RED!!, even in jumpshooting, you must shoot the ball on the way you are comfortable, see marion, allen, lewis, and many players.. hehe... I shoot freethrows like Wilkes..

  • Allen has a textbook and perfect jumpshot... Lewis just releases it from above his head slightly odd but still good technique... Marion on the other hand should never have learned to shoot like that. He has not shot off the dribble and the only time he can his a jumpshot is if the ball gets kicked out to him and he isn't moving

  • @SaltRok Marion really never shoot off the dribble

  • Yea only because he can't... if he learned to shoot the right way then he would be able to do that and he would be a way better all round player

  • @SaltRok yea.. he would get blocked alot if he tryed that anyway...he would need to use serious stepbacks to get that off.....

  • and rick barry's FT percentage in his career is 94%

  • is that really how rick barry shoots?

  • red is a great coach

  • Question: Wasn't Rick Barry a great scorer and shooter? I doubt he could shoot like that during the game with a guy guarding him, so it must mean that he was a good conventional shooter, why to shoot your FT's like that then?

  • Rick was a great shooter, but FT's in my opinion is about comfort and efficiency.

His comfort level is probably like this shot.

However, during a game, you can't shoot like that, so combining common sense, he has a regular textbook jumpshot.

  • That old guy wearing the Celtics coat is a fucking legend.

  • That's Red Auerbach, you fucking dunce.

  • hes the greatest coach in nba history your the fucking wasteman

  • phil jackson is

  • Red was the greatest.

  • nice

  • weird

i used to wear jamal wilkes no 52

and i shoot like that lol

  • We love you red!!!

  • what?????

  • Red's words remind me of why I love Shawn Marion's jump shot. :P
