@edithRAkutner Yes, it is necessary. If you look at 8:45 in the video, you see how even though she previously just grabbed sections and did a slight twist then pin, it still has a design to it. If you leave the hair straight, when you grab the section and try to twist and bobby pin, it's going to be much harder to manipulate and you are almost going to have to force a design into it.

@LusciousApril From my own experience, when you curl your hair, it is so much easier to style when you put it up. You can do so much more designs than if you did not curl it. The hair stays in place better when you curl it when doing an updo. If you don't curl it, the hair can sometimes be difficult to manipulate into the designs you are trying to achieve for your updo. I hope this helps. It really makes a BIG difference to curl your hair when doing any style other than straight hair. ;)

@YasminSyed100 even though I'm not Aubrey I can answer, you can straighten all you want, but as long as you use thermal protective spray you will be fine, as that protects the hair, also try and use shampoo and conditioner that gives back moisture as it will bring back all the moisture that your hair straightener/tongs is taking out of your hair.

I think this is gorgeous. I have a really really thick head of hair though and it's long (upto my waist).
