  • I like the warping effect at around two minutes!

    :D

  • I had such a crush on Bernard at this time. So hot

  • GET BACK TOGETHER YOU DICKHEADS WE LOVE YOU!!!

  • They look so young!

  • @astralislux and thin as well!

  • Fav bands of the moment come and go... but this song will always be my favorite--probably until the day I die.

  • @mishmosh2000 Well, one could make worse choices :)

  • @mishmosh2000 i'm the same with Temptation.

  • the show must go on:(

  • i like the way the guy at the front turns to his mate with a smile at 24 seconds when the lead guitar - deeper sounding and darker than other versions - makes its entrance. i imagine a tingle went down the spine.

  • Sumner with old hairs :D It is just after death of Ian probably.

  • @MakalSin Try fucking 12 months after.

  • once again,

    barny misses half the lyrics

    love it

and that guy doing the molly ringwald dance @ 2;54

  • Agree with Arm75 - 'A lost Classic' the last JD and first NO track is a gem....

  • Saw them in Maryland 1987 and 88' great shows but they did not play this, my favorite.

  • The closeup of Bernard at 1:09 is really intense and sad. You can see the emotion in his face and the soulfness in which he's playing the guitar.

  • Couldn't agree more!!

  • Isolation could have been one of the biggest hits of the 80's like Tainted Love, Enola Gay, Electric Dreams.......

  • yes he's very sad of his death of his band mate!

  • @kinglear Why do you say it's sad?

  • @kinglear I'm not sure. Bernard has a hard time playing. And singing for that matter. Yeah, it works, but I wouldn't add anything to it besides his concentration to just perform.

  • Very poignant, and somehow uplifting. A lost classic, if things had been different im sure it would of been bigger than `Love Will Tear Us Apart`.

  • Kurcze w tym roku miałem tylko plyty!!!!!

  • Guy dancing at 2:50

  • Yah, I always loved that part.

  • ahhhhh the 80s

  • Comment removed

  • @ssdario I love the way he dances...it really embodies the moment and the New Wave era in a great way that's not embarrassing.

  • @ssdario

    what about him?

  • @ssdario ..that would be me if I had been there. LOVE. IT.

  • I can't help but think of Ian when that guy dances at 2:50. Wish he was up there performing this song. But it is great nonetheless.

  • First stages of the coming tsunami.

  • This must have been little more than a year after Curtis' death. They must have still thought he was 'still there'.

  • Is that Hooky playing a Fender????

  • No, it's a Yamaha BB1200S.

  • Thanks.

  • i wish ian could have been there singing.

  • die

  • Okay, I found it. That is the funniest thing I have ever read. Why would you wish that Ian were there to sing it?? I have loved Joy Division since 1979 and I still love them. I saw New Order in 1981 and they were just as great. I just found it humorous...sorry.

  • because he was ian curtis, the heart and soul of jd.

  • Yes, he was. No one can match his lyrical ability, but the band provided wonderful instrumentation. I am sorry I laughed, but I have heard comments like that for almost 30 years.

  • Coz ian could sing maybe?

  • Uh...okay.

  • Totally agree with theonlytruepunk!!Ian was special, but New Order went on to be even more successful the JD. And if Ian didn't end his life then we wouldn't have all those great New Order songs. The band itself, musically that is, remained and Bernard Sumner stepped up to the mantel brilliantly!! He, in my opinion, is also a genius!!

  • I think that Joy Division would have gone towards the bass and electronic direction that New Order went anyway.

I think New Order is better that Joy Division, like its still fucking amazing.

  • Ian was not a good singer in a classical way. Technically, he's not much better than Barney although he's more consistent. What was special with Ian was his energy and charisma that was unmatched. Barney here looks like a scared little boy.

  • I`d have to disagree and say Ian was technically a lot better then Barney, in th studio at least. He was voice was maturing as well, just compare Closer to Unknown Pleasures. In the end I think it just comes down to having a strong voice. Look at John Lydon (prime) and Liam Gallagher, not good technically but strong, which for rock music is most important. I agree with Barney looking scared tho, he`s not a natural front man, so fair play to him.

  • Hmm, you have a good point. I don't think that Ian was a lot better like you said, but yes, having a strong voice does help. I think that's also the reason New Order had to change musical direction because Barney just couldn't sing the Joy Division type songs. New Order style just fit him better. Musically, they were still the same talent, but they had lost their voice and therefore their direction.

  • Oh and one more thing. People can say whatever they want about Bernard Sumner, but I will always admire him for at least one thing. He had the courage to become a frontman and replace an icon, a role I'm pretty sure he didn't like. As a guitarist, he was almost invisible and BANG he's suddenly the centre of attention. You can never win in that situation. No matter how you end up, you're always the loser.

  • That boy could play the guitar! He didn't even have to sing well to be good.

  • feel young and free to dance tonight..

  • the guy dancing at 2:50

now thats something to get your heart pumped

    rest in peace ian

hopefully those asses return your grave stone

  • The 80's started HERE! "Watching forever.." - I.C.B

  • class!

  • Woah! Barney's actually throwing a little bit of movement into his performance!

He always seems so still in most of the early-mid 80's live clips.

  • Let's get this straight. "Getting Away With It" was the first single released by Electronic in 1989. It featured Neil Tennant of the PSB on vocals (written by Sumner/Marr/Tennant). The latter track also appeared on Electronic's 1990 debut album, in which Tennant made yet another vocal contribution to "Patience of a Saint." (written by Sumner/Marr/Tennant/Lowe) In 1992 Tennant sang the vocals all by himself on the "Disappointed" single (written by Sumner/Marr/Tennant) Hope this clarifies it.

  • Pet Shop boys collaborated on several songs. Electronic was B.Sumner (New order) and J. Marr (Smiths) a supergroup

  • Bunny Larue produced alot of their songs....

  • Thank you so much for uploading this clip. I wanted to see this whole clip evern since I saw a part of it in the NewOrder Story DVD.

BTW, Barney looked like a little boy!

  • yes, but is a little part

  • Wow incredible!!!

A little of this perfomance is in the NewOrder Story DVD Right?

  • I've have recently discovered them.... some months...

I love them.. it sounds so good... many beautiful songs... i love them.

  • You like the Pet Shop Boys, but you didn't know New Order?!? That's weird because both band members have shared a bit of history. Ever heard of the supergroup Electronic?

  • Uh, Electronic had no one from the Pet Shop Boys.

  • Uh, I believe someone from the Pet Shop Boys collaborated with Electronic on three tracks [sigh].

  • Ceremony, the perfect song
