they might be somewhat underrated in 2008, but with all the GREAT bands around in 1971, & they sold out Shea that fast....why? They had the energy, but one hit. Do they have a classic album, with great deep FM cuts. Not really. I admit I don't know their albums completely, but somethign like Footstompin' music is fun, but basic. Lots of covers. all that said, not underated, they are in rock history for that reason, songs other than "im your cpt" & "american band" is what is remembered.

Man, I'm 50 years old; Grand Funk was the band I loved and my parents loathed. Finding them on YouTube was amazing! I'd never actually seen them in action. But I never knew the whole story. I agreed 100 percent that GFR deserve to be in the RRHOF, but I have 0 respect for the current RRHOSHAME. We need a NEW Hall of Fame-one that understands what the first three words stand for ROCK AND ROLL! It doesn't really bother me that Grand Funk has never been inducted, to me because the whole thing is one massive JOKE! Yes, in part... I love Mark, Don and Mel, but signing the contract is on them. They were living in a time where 20 year olds didn't know anything about contracts. They just wanted to play. Lots of people got screwed in those days. It's sad, but legally, they needed someone to run the business even if they didn't know who that someone was.

Here's a story that will back up that faith in humanity. I have that same faith too.
Alice Cooper in his book 'Golf Monster,' tells the story of how he met up with his manager, Shep Gordon. He STILL is Alice's manager in fact. All through the years Shep was completely trust worthy, kept accurate records & was trusted implicitly with all of Alice's many millions.
They made their deal, which has never changed, with a hand shake before the first album came out. They have never had a contract. :)

they might be somewhat underrated in 2008, but with all the GREAT bands around in 1971, & they sold out Shea that fast....why? They had the energy, but one hit. Do they have a classic album, with great deep FM cuts. Not really. I admit I don't know their albums completely, but somethign like Footstompin' music is fun, but basic. Lots of covers. all that said, not underated, they are in rock history for that reason, songs other than "im your cpt" & "american band" is what is remembered.
