@shonyfish1234 Never claimed to be great, and agreed, why pay attention to that... Although, I'm curious about people (you included) that comment on how good or bad videos are when they don't post any of their own videos for commenting, whether they are great or not... Not intending to be negative. PS, this video is a year old, and I had never been on the ice before this. When it says 3 months, that's essentially 12 days, because I only really went once a week until later in my skating...
thank you for posting this. I'm 58 and just got bitten by the bug to want to do this!
I've been 3 times now and love it. I am just trying to get comfortable before taking lessons. I did buy a used pair of skates. When I watched the 81 yr old figure skater on here, I thought wow, I'm not too old to at least have some fun with this!
@hhhunt777 You're welcome. I finally got back onto the ice last week and brought my dad along with me and he's excited about learning. (You can see his videos too on my channel) He's 65 or so I think. (I know I should know his exact age, but I don't) :) Good luck!
You may not think so but your inspirational. It's hard for adults to take up a "kids" sport even harder to post to youtube to be scrutinized by the masses and exposed to unsolicited advice. To you I say bravo.
@21mitten No offense taken at all. :) I started the 17 day diet and I've already lost 6 pounds so far. (Just started) I love burning calories on the ice!!! Can't wait to get back on it!!!
Before you try any backwards skating or advanced stuff like spins, its better if you try to find the right balance while you are skating, so you are skating freely on ice without fearing of falling down.
if you want to spin:
first you can get hold of the plastic that circles the rink, push your hand away of that plastic thing and turn around, it will automatically spin you around. or so it did for me, its the 6th time i skated and i managed to make two spins this way and they felt amazing
Don't say anything about her boobs or her weight, it's her arms throwing her off balance. Hold one arm on front and the other one behind you don't let them fly around in the air. Also instead of take 1/2 steps then trying to do crossovers, glide then go into it. Hope this helped a wee bit! I do skating but I teach myself by copying professionals I started when I was 7years old I'm now 13. x
Hi Amy!! I think your progress is looking great!! And I'm sure that you've come even further since this video seeing as its been almost a year!! How's the skating going? I hope you post more vids of your skating progress soon:)
@skaterina79 Will start posting more vids in a month or so when I get back on the ice. I do miss it! Passed Delta in March or so of last year. Haven't been skating since April though. I'll have to do a little more retraining I think of the basics before I start working on FS1. Hope your skating is going well!
@amymardis Yay for progress! I also started started skating last year as an adult, and moved up in the ranks to Freestyle 1. I'm also doing my first ever competition at my local rink next month! I'll be skating a Delta level program, but I'm totally excited about it, no matter if I'm the only adult in the competition or not. :)
@jfluter So excited for you! Let me know how you did! :) I'm so happy to finally be skating again, just started last week. Hoping to progress to FS1 soon as well. Working on the basics again first.
Awesome stuff for only 3 months with lessons once a week! I'm an adult skater myself (been at it for 8 years now) & it took me longer to get comfortable with crossovers, backwards skating, and the basic waltz jump, for which you've essentially got the mechanics. Totally agree with jewelcitydevil--keep at it! Passion is what'll get you where you want to. Good luck!
You've got the most important thing down, and that is you have passion for this so keep skating and keep improving. Also to supplement your ice skating you should get some inline skates and skate outside for cross training. They are cheap and they will save you an arm and a leg on ice time.
You would really do well to start skating laps around the ice. It will give you a great cardiovascular workout, improve your muscle memory and general fitness, not to mention make you a better ice skater. Stop looking at the ice and trying to hop around. Skate laps. Lots of laps. Like aim for 1,000 each time you go on the ice and stop skating when you're too tired. In eight to ten months, start working on the ice dancing tricks.
@robbyns I'll definitely work on basic balance, thank you for the advice. Never claimed to be an ice princess, the key word is FUTURE. I didn't say tomorrow.
@GardiniaBloom Thank you. Competition went great. So far, got 1st place in Fort Myers, 1st place in both events in Palm Beach, and 2nd place at the Adult Champs in Tampa. I haven't been skating since April when I moved, but in a couple of weeks I'm headed to NC to stay with my dad and he has a rink right by him, so I'll be starting up again.
Really good for only 3 months. Here is what may be the single most important tip for improving your skills, and I quote Dick Button: "Bend ze knees, $5 please!"
@tanyarox111 Agreed, no need to apologize, however, advice is appreciated rather than negative comments. I did put FUTURE ice princess in the title, which is true, it'll take a long time, but I'll get there. Although... I haven't been on the ice since April, and it'll be a while, but once I get back on the ice I'll take the advice with me.
@amymardis good! but yes i think you'll be very good a couple word of advice tho where less tighter clothing when you wear tighter clothing it resticts you. and keep your head up dont look at your feet
You need basically more ice time, I think. Just spending time stroking alone will help, even just skating around the rink really fast like hockey people do, once in a while. To make having a constant kneebend easier, do squats. Also, I'm heavier, 185 pound male, and I found it really hard to do much on the ice with a 1/2 or so hollow, once I switched to 7/8, things got a lot easier, so you might wanna experiment with getting down to as shallow as a hollow as you can get.
yup, itworks your leg muscles and improves on balance. I had troubles with my crossovers bcause I did not bend enough in my knees. Darrin (the male international skater at my rink) taught me how to do them, after teaching me, I saw a vast improvement in my skating
Yay! I'm also an Alpha/Beta Adult level skater. I know how hard these moves can be, but everything will eventually "click." Keep up the great work and please let us know how your competition goes. :)
thats great , here are tips that you might find helpful , if you keep your arms press down , you will get more control , because if you look at your video you can see when your arms go way up this will help you in your competition , :)
@Mizzfigureskater It might also help if you bend your knees more. It will hep you in the long run with your crossovers (more speed and fluidity). Bending your knees will also provide more stability. I myself have trouble bending my knees, but I find it helps if you warm up with foward swizzles into a seated position with your arms foward to help balance. You continue the swizzle-seated pattern back and forth and it will help condition you. Good luck with your competition!!!!!! You skate well!
what the f!#@ this is not good!!
PS i agree with podgrzbek she has HUGE boobs but why would you pay attention to that

Keep you head up.
Bend you knees a lot more. Especially on the crossovers.
Control you arms on the crossovers.
On the spiral, keep you head up, both legs straight, and arch you back.
Hope this helps.
skaterchic1091 2 months ago
When you do your spiral, keep your but down. Kind of like an ark.
