And i had the honor of meeting this man..He didnt brag or boast of his feats, he just did what had to be done and went back to work..One incident a viet cong was trying to do a drive by on a cyclo at some GI's Colonel Howard grabbed a weapon and he blew that guys head off handed the weapon back to the guy it was issued to and went back to his battalion and helped the supply sergeant out...Made no mention of it whatsoever.

Would appreciate any explanation on this as it staggers me that a person who is nominated three times for the a country's highest decoration by helping out fellow soldiers with absolutely no regard for his own life does not be properly recognised. My deepest respect to Mr Howard, an exceptional man without question.

Being nominated only means a person has been "recommended" for the medal. His first two nominations were instead awarded the silver star. His third nomination was honored with the Modeal of Honor by Nixon. Now, Had he been awarded the medal the other two times, he would indeed wear two bronze stars on his ribbon - but NOT on the medal itself like most other subsequent awards of a medal.

Not true that you can only receive 1 Metal of Honor in a lifetime. 19 men have received 2 including 7 Marines and only 2 men "Dan Daly and Smedly Butler" received 1 for 2 seperate actions.
