They started out as an a cappela street corner group, and kept that ability to be one of the finest to this day. My wife and I had the pleasure of seeing the group perform in the late 1980's. They were part of an oldies show that featured many of the top groups of the fifties and sixties. Little Anthony and the Imperials were on last and stole the show. To this day, Little Anthony's voice is just as fantastic as it was back in the early '60's and his Imperials are holding their own.
what a great story and song. Just to add a little. I was Livving in Puerto Rico in The Late 50's and Taking Tennis Lessons At Dorado Beach Resort/ Country Club, and Ava Gardner was staying there for a vacation afer her movie 'The Naked Maja" I was standing next to her one day and it started to rain, I was getting wet bec the wind was blowing it on me. So she said" hey ther young J*** come here and sit with me so you dont get wet". And instantly i was on her lap, I still rember it, like yest..
just to be able to be out by the pool and casually break out in song ... at that magnificent level of harmony is just unbelievable ... i have been a fan forever
so best wishes and god bless as you guys have no idea how many hours of enjoyment you bring to all of us
I'm so happy to see, and especially, to hear this going on. Hey Mike, I'm from the class of '67 too, and will always love Little Anthony and the Imperials. I guess there are a lot of us here who remember the best of the best. It's so awesome that they are still singing so beautifully, and Kenny Vance joining in is awesome. Many thanks to the person who posted this.
Only when you are truly great, can you sit around like this, jam on a song you've done a million times(it was recorded in "58"), & make it sound as sweet & full of passion as it was intended when composed. These guys, as well as the real veterans of the Doo-Wop era will always remain a staple in the music world forever!
Hay group. It takes a huge band or orchrestra and back up singers to put music out like this sound today. You did it and continue to do it setting at a breakfast table at a hotel. Do you really know how good, I mean GREAT you are and have been. Thank you so much for bring us this sound.
Have Mercy!!!!! Thank you for this one. I am a 47 year old male in Kansas, former oldies and doo wop dj beofore computers and satelites took over. The first time I heard the acapella version was on the PBS Doo wop 50 special and I have not be the same since. I liked Tough Tony and the Imperials, but Just Two Kinds of People got me hooked on them.
my goodness listen to little anthonys falsetto...my gosh he sounds a thounsand times better than all of these 20 somethings today..they should be ashamed. and that awful American Idol..what a joke.
u r so right ! I was looking around for someone younger when I heard anthony's falsetto and it was HIM!!! I've always liked the way he sang, even as a child then I understood that he sang clearly ,that's how I learned his songs, his diction was always on point, I don't know if you've noticed but when many of these "singers" sing they pronouce the word "you" as " choo" and that bugs me like nobodys biz.and I'm talking about famous ones, just listen .
Anthony is incredible he still carrys that range without any effort at all. I was in Albuquerque New Mexico they had an appearence in one of the casinos but had to fly back to Europe and sad to say I missed the concert I have seen most of their videos and is simply amazed at the vocal agility, he's like wine and gets better with age. I don't know if they are still together? Live, they are worth every penny if these videos are anything to go by. Long live rock & roll Anthony just keep on wailing
For all you fans of Little Anthony and the Imperials, they will be on Dave Letterman this coming Tuesday. That is Aug. 26th. This past June marked their 50th anniversary. They have a new CD which has some new songs and some re-makes of old songs. It is a must buy. I got a copy in June when they played the Monterey Fairgrounds. What a show! Their backup band is the best they have ever had.
Hey guys I grew up with you all in Fort Greene projects. Im still listening to your wonderful sound. Just think when we all get to heaven (if we are faithful) we'll all get to sing in the heavenly choir, which Satan was the choir leader. Not any more. Never more to hear his voice, only ours with the angels.
WOW! Wish I could be there!
