  • Very nice demo... Love the movement, power and accuracy-flow of the adept....

  • i was wondering what is with the upper arms of the wooden dummy....

i don't see the reason y is soo high and with such a high angle... i really don't see many ppl keeping their arms with that angle and that high... doesn't that makes you hitting too high?

if you can explain it better to me the reason behind it i'll be gladful! :D

  • Very nice! I did a little CLF years ago, but we didn't have a dummy.

Tell me, are there specific "sets" for the CLF dummy, or is it one set, or it more just a set of drills?

    Thanks!!

  • Now THAT'S what I call conditioning. That shit must have hurt.

  • That top 'arm' on the dummy is punching to the sky....lol

  • @MrMarzialista92 Not really sure what you mean but wing chun cannot "win". Both choy lay fut and wing chun are methods to be used by individual practitioners. Victory or defeat is determined by each individuals respective skill level.

  • @K3hungsing i'm agree...

  • @MrMarzialista92 This is about learning from all points of view. Just watch this video and absorb what is useful.

  • Great demonstration sir!

  • Wow this looks great. Is CLF a "young man's art"? I'm in my 40's, would I be able to learn it?

  • @LeHammockRider There is some advantage to starting young but it's never to late.

  • @LeHammockRider Yeah LeHammockRider is right. Some students at my school are in their 70's.

  • @LeHammockRider I believe it would be classified as an "old man's" martial art, but that's based on footwork types used.

I would think of "old man's" martial arts being one where the person is more grounded. A "young man's art" would be one that uses a lot of agility, so an example would be a western boxer.

  • @fdesa12 Thanks I never thought of it that way. I think I'm going to look into it.

  • @fdesa12 I think that an "old man's art" would be one which relies more upon the sue of internal power, as opposed to external force. Taijiquan is an example of an "old man's style", but you also get styles which combine internal and external, like wing chun, bajiquan, and fut gar, to great effect!

And yeah, I think that, typically less jumping, "flying" and agility would also characterise "old people" styles.

  • @LeHammockRider choy lee fut is a very effective martial art but the foot work stances forms etc. are more complicated and more difficult to learn .... in compare with some other styles .... and you need very strong legs for all those choy lee fut stances

for older people i would suggest styles like wing chun ... or chen tai chi

    kindest regards

  • @oyamarovic Thanks for the opinion but if an actual sifu of CLF thinks it's possible I'm willing to take his word for it. :)

  • @LeHammockRider everything is possible ........CLF is a very good style i wish you good luck :)

    kindest regards

  • Nice moves!!

  • stupid ....... to slow the opponent will always strike back this way you let to many opening's you need to be faster not to allow the opponent to attack back

  • @Koshk4 one of the purposes of training on the Choy Lay Fut wodden dummy is to teach correct positioning of the footwork to minimize the opponents opportunity to strike back using the side angles. I could stand in front of the dummy and throw my hands faster but that is not the purpose of these drills.

  • @Koshk4

dummy training is exactly that. Training. Choy lay fut uses a lot of straight line punching in actual combat mixed with 'off angle' strikes which are wider. The wider Strikes come into their own when fighting multiple attackers. Choy lay fut is actually widely regarded as (arguably) the best system of defence against multiple attackers. (Something that even Bruce Lee agreed with!!!)

  • When you use the wooden dummy arent you just applying your forms that you have practiced??

  • @jaylyn3 yes

  • Good!!

  • I think the wooden dummy is the one that hit "dislike"...lol

  • Nice vid, i always liked CLF, it's nice to see some of their dummy drills.
