  • i miss my game gear now

  • Awesome ending with Foreplay/Long Time by Boston

  • That 3DO game was called Return Fire

  • My brother had one!

  • it compete with the original game boy which had a slightly smaller screen than the color

  • " Those weird symbols Sony uses. " Dude, they use shapes XD. Anyway I am just watching your old videos and you have changed a lot. You were right in your newer vids.

  • YOU. ARE. AWESOME!!!

  • I HAVE THE GAME GEAR AND ALL OF THE FUN GAMES IT S A FUN GAME.

  • when you're filming backlit screened system, try doing it under a dark blanket or in a black garbage bag to reduce glare

  • i have a fear of being in the water alone with something bumping my leg. 8(

  • Thank you sir for getting me hooked on Boston again =p

  • OMG FAST TALKING!

  • arg metal game gear

  • i just picked up a game gear tonight with power adaptor and sonic 2 and mortal combat!

  • if you have a sega genesis model 2 the ac power to that will work for the game gear

  • Damn son.... 4:45. haha

  • I finally paused it. I was feeling pretty good about myself until I discovered that you hate me. -_-

  • yay i paused it on time !

to read a message that had no point :)

  • Lolololololololololol just joking

  • @TolstoyKafkaEvsky put it in ur pants so girls think u got a big cock

  • @Ryanr75rc lol!!!!!!!!

  • I just bin on porn tube soooo much porn god

  • The system may be big but the Game Gear and the Nomad are COMFORTABLE, to hold as apposed to these new systems. The PSP makes my freakin and sore, so i had to buy an adapter to make it look like a controller.

  • haha! I had that same phobia about ecco the dolphin when I played it on the genesis. never beat it.

  • Hey, ever since I bought a Gravis Gamepad I have prefered broken up D-Pad:s because of the Gravis being(not broken up) but unprecis, like, trying to press only left would often result in left+up or left+down(and so on). But I do realise it is a question of quality(precision and calibration of the controller), so to be on the safe side I choose broken up if I have a choice.

  • is a very very good console

You are lucky to have one!

  • Echo the Dolphin, scary? Hahaha. Wow. Nice of the guy to send you a free GameGear btw. I'm still holding onto my blue one among other portables.

  • The Game Gear was big, but I found it quite comfortable to hold. As for the speaker, mileage kinda varies. Some Game Gear and most Turbo Express systems had amps that would lose output power over time. Normally a Game Gear plays quite loud, second only to the Lynx, and much louder than a Game Boy. The volume knob does get dirty overtime and causes a crackle when you turn it. The best Sonic game for the Game Gear is Chaos. Sonic 1 and Triple Trouble are also good. Jungle Strike is actually a

  • @Scioneer

Jungle Strike was actually a port of the 16-bit version from the Genesis and SNES, and was a pretty good port considering the Game Gear is an 8-bit system. Its much closer to the 16-bit version than the Game Boy port. Overall, the Game Gear is a great system with a few quirks that are way overblown by the Nintendo crowd, and owning both the Game Gear and Game Boy allows you to play some great classics from the 90s.

  • I own three. An Early TV Tuner compatible Model, a Late Non-Tuner Compatible Model, and the Majesco 2001 limited edition Re-release Game Gear. Yeah, it only did 5 hours on 6 AAs, but it still was a sweet system. Its also a great system for a beginner vintage game system collector. Get the AC Adaptor and or the rechargable battery pack, and the Game Gear will still give hours of great gaming even today. The TV Tuner is cool, but today with the digital conversion, is only good for the A/V inputs.

  • i read the last message :D

  • holy crap bat man size the best

  • My first and only portable. Fuck yeh Deep Duck Trouble Starring Donald Duck was fuckin' hilarity and in yo face :]

  • Do the GameGear is bigger that the Nomad?

    Thanks

  • @SPFullfan they are about the same size, game gear might be a little bigger

  • Guess you hate me for actually reading that last frame. Then again I added extra time to the one video I produced so there was time to read the last text... Both situations are kinda annoying. Me for including dead space and your including a card you didn't want anyone to read anyway. Should we call it a mutual hate?

  • dude your a geek man your funny to me. im mexican by the way lol

  • Youll need a truckload of batteries for that brick. :P

  • @hugecumshot

Or he can find the external rechargable battery pack. Mine is still taking a full charge after all these years, and gets 8 hours with the Game Gear, 5 with the Nomad.

  • What does it matter if the screen was bigger than GBC? GG is still a big brick, bigger than PSP original.

The screen is like PSP? That made me *facepalm*

The pad from PSP is pretty much the same from the controllers. It's great for controlling games.

You shouldn't had have compared Game Gear to PSP, it's total ridiculous.

And I'm no Sony fanboy, I just saw that you were wrong by comparing both systems. Atari Lynx would be comparable.

Hope the 2nd part is better..

  • @FilMarck Whooaaaa. Anal much..

  • Boston is awesome!

  • damn sega game gear was a brick but i loved it.

  • I loved the gamegear at the time

  • horror...has a face...and you must make a friend of horror...

  • Damn, son! haha

  • i got my game gear today. im going to make a review tommorow

  • I got 3 from goodwill today with 8 game for 4 bucks. All 3 are working and the games too.

  • what the HELL it that bulge!!!... oooooh gamegear

  • you can play ecco the dolphin on the sega nomad and the sega game gear. what a coincidence.

  • I agree about sports games. And Ecco was scary for me, too!

  • @Molbyn15 I actually used to be afaid of that game or have some disturbance playing it. I was with more colorful and fast paced games like Sonic.

  • i can not believe i just got my today for 10c, im not even kidding, they had a sticker on it that said, as is. with a 10c price mark, it was the unit it self, the store was run by elderly people so they probably did not know if it worked as the person who donated it did not include batteries, a power cable, or games. but i got it home today and it seems to work, when power it on the screens lights up and so does the led, but i have no games. so i don't know if it really does work. here's hoping.

  • i got a brand new one for 129.99 on some japanese import videogame website

  • I got my game gear for $5 on ebay they are not to exspensive

  • hey there tolstoy did anyone ever tell you that your voice horribly annoying? and that you kind of suck in general?

  • LOL!! i used to have one of these when i was 8, and im 19 now. lol. i used to play gthe game wherein the character rides a flying broom, its like a shooter game, only side scrolling. lol.

  • it takes alot to please u it was the first psp it could even play tv psp dont u should stop taking the piss out of the things that made thing we have today they are pioneers

  • I collect vintage system and I have been looking at getting another system the only thing is I do not really have the room for another system so I have been looking at either getting a Gamegear because it plays master system games or a Nomad to play genesis games. basically I am looking at a portable game console to save space. which one would you recommend getting first. Or I might just decide to go ahead and get a Atari Jaguar or 3DO if I have the room at college.

  • the game gear is better than the atari lynx

  • yes it is

  • I know!! ATARI LYNX WAS FREAKING HUGE!!!!

  • i think we all do..

but needlemouse is gonna have it

I may buy it just to hear the old SEEGGGAA

  • horrible voice but thanks for the info

  • If you were smart you would first talk about the console showing us that, and then downloaded the games to you computer and filmed from that it would have looked much better! Why do everyone think that the game gear competed with the game boy? It did not do that! It competed with the original Gay Boy and it had Way better graphics and sound than the gay boy. Bigger screen to! And you could also watch television on it if you buy an extra adapter to it.

  • Sega dropped the TV tuner add-on capability early into the Game Gear's lifespan. Also, this thing was quite the battery hog, leading many people to purchase an AC adapter and rechargeable battery pack.

  • awesome dud luckyyy lol i love thoes hahahah :D

  • i used to love ecco on my genesis

  • The GameGear is an enhanced Master System (more colours on screen and bigger pallette).

If they had the technology to have a rechargeable lithium battery it would have been a much more successful hand-held. The battery life was its problem.

GameGear had some terrific games: GG Shinobi (which is awesome) and Columns

It also had a fantastic TV add-on which made the GG better than most portable TVs.

  • okay what should i buy a master system or a game gear

  • Both?

  • @Relugus Don't forget the Shining Force Gaiden games, I actually played one on a emulator, and it was badass. I they are the best handheld strategy RPG for the time.

  • @Relugus Not to mention, there also exists adapters that will take a Master System game and you can play it on the Game Gear, since as you said, the GG is an enhanced Master System.

  • yea for the genesis adapter that u can use to charge the game gear can you use any genesis adapter or does it have to be a specific one?

  • im getting one today

  • love your're reviews man adhd power really massive hyper talking,i like that makes it funner then all the this and and adn uhhhhm uuuhhm sega and uuuh nintendo uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh holy crap batman and uuuuuuuuh.

  • it is random but i wonder if the ds will have the same or longer lifespan like the gba

  • GBA lifespan lasted about 3 years....DS is going on 5 and still selling strong. So...longer.

  • even though it takes alot of batteries for playing you could install the rechargeble battery pack onto the gamegear OR play with no batteries or pack thing but just the AC adapter. thats what i always do now that i have my gamegear :3

  • it was kinda funny the way u hummed wile gettin teh gameboy

  • i just ordered a gamegear off of ebay and im expecting it in 3-4 days im sure itll be fun! :)

  • it was my frst gaming system

  • SAme. Broke along time ago though..

  • I LOVE THE GAME GEAR!

  • Dude, you seriously have to stop shooting heroin into you're coffee man, REALLY...

  • diogo

  • I got one of these when I was younger, it got pretty damaged because it fell out of my hands too much. My arms and hands were too weak back then to hold it while playing lol :)

  • OMG!!!! that would happen alot to me too!!! it was my first handheld (followed up by a GBC) I had a batman game and a sonic game!! i still remember after 8 years!!!(btw im 13)

  • lucky you , enjoy the game gear ! :)

  • the tv tuner for this was cool.

  • What year did it come out ?

  • 1991 it cam out, and early 1997 discontinued

  • I have a GameGear its cool. But I only use the AC Apapter so I don't pay for batteries. I have all 3 Sonic games. Aladdin, Talespin, Jungle Book, Lion King, Ninja Gaiden, XMen, Power Rangers, Super Off Road, and some more stuff.

  • does it come with a special ac adaptor just for the game gear, or can i use a different one?

  • I have a gamegear with a wall plug so I can play it without batteries!

  • ohhhhhhhhh

i could use one of those !

    ^_^

  • What I did was used a universal AC adapter. The kind that you can switch the voltage to match different battery powered devices. Make sure that the socket fits into the GameGear first. And then set the voltage to 9.0 volts because 1.5 volts per each AA battery times 6 batteries = 9 volts. Then you can plug in the AC adapter into an outlet and turn on the GameGear.

  • you can also use a model 2 genesis ac adapter they use the same voltage and same plug

  • Your critiques are so incredibly poor, mostly because of how you review with respect to TODAY's gaming. Yes, you do make reference to history and other classic games. But many of your complaints weren't legitimate complaints back then, or at least not as serious as you make them out. They are only complaints NOW when you compare things to what we are used to today; smaller systems, less required power, brighter screens, more involved gameplay with better graphics and tighter controls, etc.

  • you said he wouldnt let you mention his name !?

you already did when you read the letter !!

    LOLZ

  • i think he meant his youtube username

  • HUH??????????????????

  • yeah, i don't think so sorry

  • were could you find game gear game now?

  • you've gotta have luck so i wish you the best of it

  • Amazon and eBay

  • Finish ecco, I dare you. It was harder than tomb raider!. One of my great completions.... And don't forget walkthroughs are for f@gs.

  • the speaker is probably broken. i have 2 sega gamegears and their louder than my TV when its turned up pretty loud. So as you would say it, theres an ungodly amount of noise put off by it

  • Yea I know, I was playing that through my school and it was loud as anything.

  • The power is going to the chips and the screen. The Game Gear was significantly more powerful then the Game Boy. Even more powerful than the GBC I think. Also it's quite old and not as efficient as electronics today.

You should probably have shot the game footage in a dark room.

  • are u jerry jackson???

  • LMFAO!!!! My brother says "Dang son" all the time so when you said "Damn son" i just loled my butt off :D

  • my game gear has no volume

  • It's a common fault with Game Gears, one of the components that handled sound was poorly built and wears out with age.

The youtube user 'kainkusanagi' did a very good tutorial on how to fix it. If you're interested in repairing it, you should check it out.

  • SHUT THE FUCK UP

    YOU=SPAM

  • What?! Me and dakotamarisa were just having a debate, relavent to the video. It may of got a little out of hand, so we stopped there.

Also, I find it a little ironic that you call me a spammer, yet you have clearly just mindlessly spammed me.

Judging my how immuture you're acting, I would suggest that you get off Youtube, and the internet in general. You're probably too young.

  • I was trying to be a buzzkill, btw i am not too young, i am just retarded

  • i know what u mean man i miss the old sonic team... lately the sonic games just suck... oh and anyone who doesn't miss the opening of a sonic game has never truly played sonic.

  • I wouldn't say the new Sonic games suck, they are just average. And the Sonic brand deserves more then to be shoved into ill fitting themes like "Black Knight".

What do you mean by "missing the opening theme of a Sonic Game", which Sonic game? 'a' doesn't mean anything when there are 70+ Sonic games you could potentially be talking about.

  • You wouldn't say that the new sonic games suck but i do, simply compare the new sonic games to the old games on the Genesis and the old games win hands down... Sega has been through so many changes since the Genesis that the company isnt even Sega anymore they are just a remanence of wat used to be... And if you would actually play one of the old Sonic games from the Genesis you would know wat "opening" im talking about ... U clearly know nothing about the old Sonic games CCowell125...

  • You're mistaken there, I've been a fan of Sonic beyond the recolours for over 7 years. I own all the Mega Drive Sonic games, in fact, I own several copies of each game. I also own most of the Sonic Game Gear and Master System games, among many, many others on newer systems. ;)

And SEGA is still SEGA, it's just owned by Private Equity now, which means the majority is owned by another company, but SEGA still operates independently. Not like Atari, which is nothing more than a trademark now. =P

  • MY FUCKING GOD!!!!! Im going make this as easy to understand as i can.... I know Sega is still owned by Sega, but if u look at the products they have produced over the years, from Genesis to Wii, 360, or PS3, the company their games have gone downhill. The old Sega would never be satisfied working as a 3rd party company, to tell you the truth its kind of pathetic to see Sega working with Nintendo... The Sega we used to know would never have worked with their rival.

  • SEGA isn't owned by SEGA, SEGA is owned by a private equity firm, I don't know how I could of stated that more black and white then I already did.

Also, SEGA is a business, if being a third-party developer beings them more revenue than developing hardware, they would be very, very satisfied. And it's not pathetic to see SEGA working with the biggest gaming hardware manufacturer, it's a fantastic business deal, and only a massive SEGA fanboy could think otherwise.

  • OMFG!!!!!!! You just dont get what im trying to say so just fucking forget it... And as for a fanboy look in the fucking mirror you just wont except wat im saying cause:

    1. Ur a fanboy and cant except the truth

    2. u just cant understand wat im saying

AND I ALREADY KNOW WAT U KEEP TELLING ME SO ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

  • 1. Because I believe the modern Sonic games are "average" and that SEGA working with Nintendo is a good business decision, that somehow makes me a fanboy in your logic...

Not excepting what? I corrected you on some facts I thought you got wrong. And your opinion is not "the truth", and I can to disargee with it.

    2. Maybe I'll understand what you're saying better if you didn't write in broken English. 'Ur', 'wat', 'u' etc. isn't appropriate in a debate, that is before I get into your grammar.

  • Sorry but some times i have to write that way in order to make Youtube's stupid 500 word maximum... Listen i don't care about this anymore what is the point about sitting at your computer and arguing about this and that to someone you don't even know you obviously didn't understand what i was trying to say so whatever its done and over with. Because truly arguing over Nintendo and Sega just goes to show that we truly are fanboys.

Sorry for the waste of your time.

    Peace!

  • Yeah, okay, sorry for wasting your time aswell. ;)

  • And lastly, you don't know "wat" I *oh so* keep telling you, because I'm just correctly your previous comments.

  • Also, I've already said my peace over what I think of modern SEGA games, there average in my opinion. But, remember, many of them are developed by third-parties, as SEGA "hires" them. Samba De Amigo, Sonic Mega/Gems Collection, SEGA Superstar Tennis & Virtua Tennis series among many others were developed by third parties. (Other companies do this aswell, including Nintendo, it makes business sense to, because it frees up there studio resources so they can produce more profitable, bigger games).

  • shinobi for the GG....classic

  • OMG!

I always hated underwater games when i was younger too!

  • My GG died early. i got so mad once, that i punched the screen and cracked it.

  • lol

  • Game gear would of owend the game boy if the battery life was not shit

  • There Tolstoy i have paused your video on the exact spot where your hidden message is....now your secret is out in the world....muhahahahahaha.......im just kiddin nice message.

  • what message

  • the....secret......message of...um.....stop ruining my joke...its funny!

  • but seriously tell me

  • LoL, pause at the very end

  • I Have a Portable Megadrive(Genesis) that i got for xmas :D It was £30 and it is very very glitchy and after a week of haveing it i drooper it under the couch and for some reason it plays for a bit then the screen goes "EEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHAHA" And it keeps pressing the start button in.

    Anyway, Good Review

  • I got a gamegear and I like it. I got the big manpurse bag with it. Also my speaker is plenty loud.

  • your funny!! :D

  • Good god! I fuckin' hated that Sonic game for GG. It was one of the hardest games ever, but for all the wrong reasons.

  • I remember playing Sonic and Jurrasic Park on a GameGear.

  • I read that the reason some gamegear's speaker are so quiet is because some compacitors in the system or, something like that, were made cheaply and broke.

  • sega is a japanese game company, so its kinda obvious that the games were made in japan

  • master system is better than gamegear! because you can see the full screen. all of you people, don't get the gamegear! get the master system if you want to!

  • man this video makes me miss my game gear so much... I was so stoked when i got it for christmas when i was like 10

  • You're facing the sunlight all wrong. You should be behind the sunlight so the light can touch what you're showing us.

  • i have a gamegear but that case looks nice i gonna try and get a case like that

  • sega game gears screen is crap! mine broke and ive had it for 2 months

  • THIS IS THE BEST SYSTEM EVER!

  • why am i not surprized you dont like sports games

  • lol at what he wrote 1/2 of a second before the video ended

  • Hahaha! Those weird symbols that Sony uses!? You mean a square and a triangle? Haha. Weird symbols indeed. Loved the review.

  • Love the gg!! Loads of really sweet memories and happy times play Shinobi, colums and Sonic 1. sniff sniff

  • lol i got one today i love it

  • I'm not a sony fan or even like the playstation but the reason for the arrow d pad is because the other d pads are pretty much patented and thats pretty much the sole reason all d pads other than the ones on nintendo systems suck right off the bat.

  • pretty much ? really ?

  • pretty real much

  • that 3DO game you were talking about was return fire and it was ported to the PS1

  • lolzords

  • that did not happened! uh..did it?

  • have gamegear been rare yet??

  • This was an overpriced, battery RAPING, power draining piece of SHIT! I couldn't care WHAT anyone says! They claim this junk had over 150 games, yet I can only think of about 5, and they are all Sonic games/ports, which are the ONLY hits that it has let alone the only games WORTH playing; even though they are mostly ports of the real thing. Other than an EXPENSIVE backlight, this has nothing on the GB! The GB is where the gameplay is! It had WAY more games AND hits, just to say a few.

  • it was competing agints the gameboy original. not color. the gamegear came out 1990. game boy- 1989

  • My mother used to own a GameGear... until I lost it.

  • i bought a gamegear for 20 dollars, i like the system, but it's very weak, the day after i got it, I dropped it and broke the power switch and the contrast switch, now i have to take out a battery to turn it off. oh also good review!

  • someone send one to me!!

  • I like your reviews, and you take a lot of time going over the systems and games you cover. But damn, you need medication. You're just ALL over the place! Sorry.

  • try 3do

  • sega sega sega sega

SEGA i love my game gear i sill use it

  • maybe because it was the fack i was little so i had little hands, i hated the d pad on the gamegear. it didt feel right compared to the fat game boys d pad

  • I like my Gamegear I want a lynx though And a Turbo Express and a lynx.

  • you suck ishykawa
