  • do you have to have a stick shift for a lt1 engine or can you still use manual.

    thanks for your help.

  • @NINOBROWN914 An LT1 is a second generation small block, and an LS1 is a third generation, the LS1 engines are completely different than the first and second generation small blocks, but you can bolt up any transmission from a Chevy V8 to any other Chevy V8. You could bolt up any automatic, TH350, TH400, 2004R, 700R4, 4L60, 4L80, or any manual like a Chevy T5 or T56 to any Chevy V8 engine, any small block or big block. They all have the same bolt pattern.

  • @kovacs88 i meant to say can i use automatic instead of manual

but i decided to be a man and learn how to drive a stick shift.thanks for your help and drive safe

  • Nice monte i have a white one what size are those back tires

  • @benwodarek1 They are 245/60R15s.

  • it looked like he floored it in the the wall hahahah

  • nice monte man i like that ls1. i have a couple gbody cars so come check me out

  • Nice what oil pan did you use?

  • @MrBuick2009 I used the F-body pan, as the engine is out of an 00 T/A. I had to notch the crossmember quite a bit to get it to fit. I wouldn't recommend that unless you have a lot of welding/fabrication experience. I understand that a pan and pick-up from a 4.8/5.3/6.0 will clear the crossmember, but I talked to a guy who was having issues clearing the centerlink. Check eBay, I recall seeing an oil pan and pick-up kit for G-body cars. eBay and Google are your best friends for this swap.

  • hey thanx for repling back to me.i found a motor off a 2000 chevy camaro

v8.compleat.tran and motor .is ther any body you can refer me .that can help me do that swap. i live in oxnard ca

  • dam thats my dream .thats.the same engine swap.iwant.for my elco.

hey how much did you send on it. and would you like to sale it

  • @larry8315 I didn't keep track of exactly what I spent on it. I think I was a bit too scared to do that, but including buying the car, I think I've spent close to $20,000. And unfortunately it's not for sale. Nobody would pay me what it is worth to me.

  • hey man i wanna put a lt1 into my caprice could u give me the run down on the wiring

  • @bigstuff5 An LT1 wiring is completely different than an LS1 actually. I wouldn't have any idea where to start with it. There's probably a lot of good LT1 swap websites though that should have that info.

  • hey man i got a 84 monte and rite now it has a 305 n it but i would like swap it out for a 454 bored sumwhere round 90 and just wanted to kno wats the best rear end to put on and will my driv shaft hold up thanks for ur time lookin forward to see ur respondse

  • @lgibson31 I'd probably go with a Ford 9". Unless you want to keep it all Chevy parts, but the 9" is cheap, super strong, and fairly easy to find parts for. There's some nice parts on eBay for the swap, or you can go to the Moser website and get a complete 9" ready to bolt in. For a big block I would get a bigger driveshaft, I actually broke mine once.

  • NICE!!!!!! looks bad fukn ass. Iam tryn to do the swap on my 87 Ls right now.. What did u do on the engine mounts??? thanks any info would be great!

  • @NOTORIOUSCARCLUB I actually just found some adapter plates on eBay so I'm using the stock smallblock frame mounts and saddles. You can find lots of good parts for this conversion on eBay.

  • Your faawkin gay homo

  • @dootchltdltd I'm gonna share a tidbit of information with you. You're and your may sound the same, and look pretty similar, but they do have different meanings believe it or not. Don't tell anyone I told you though, it's a secret!

  • whats ur mpg with the ls1 in the monte

  • @mwd92 I get about 18mpg in the city. I've never tried on the highway though. That was one of the big reasons I did this swap. I like to drive my car everyday, and with a carbureted 350 that didn't make as much power I was getting around 8 mpg.

  • whats it weigh? check out my 88 ls1 gta

  • @firechicken76 I've never weighed it, but I would guess around 3200 lbs. Nice TA, it's such a nice swap over an old 350.

  • nice what the track time

  • Wow that LS1 looks so right under that hood. I don't know why i bother with my 305.

  • NICE JOB MAN REALLY !!!!!!!!!

  • how fast have you gotten it to go?

  • On street tires 13.5 @ 102 mph. Top speed, don't know, had it up 150 mph a few times, it's only at 5,000 rpm too, but the car gets a little floaty at that speed. I'm in the process of changing the cam right now so we'll see what it does after that.

  • did you have to lift the body in order to get the 4L60E trans in it?

  • No actually there's just a seam where the firewall meets the floor, and I just bent that up towards the floor a bit. There's actually a good amount of clearance above the trans when everything is sitting right, and I've got good driveshaft angles. I think it's actually easier to remove and install this trans than the TH350.

  • That engine looks oh so nice in that bay...LoL, at the end it seems You are going to launch straight into your shop wall.

  • It's funny because everyone I work with said the same thing, that's why I had to cut the video off there, because that's the exact point I locked the brakes up. I'm hoping to make some cooler videos in the summer.

  • wow i want ur car

  • Sweet Monte.

  • basically how much does it usually cost 4 labor i have da motor n trans n also should i keep it 3.73 or 4.10

  • Well I built mine myself, and it probably still cost me $5,000 in parts to make it work. I would expect if you have the engine, trans, and the Monte, getting a shop to do it would be like $10,000. And I ran mine with 3.73s for 2 years, and just recently 4.10s, which are nicer, but not a whole lot different, if your diff is in good shape, I would leave them in there.

  • how was the swap cuz i'm seriously want to put my ls1 in a 87 monte carlo ss was it a pain i really want to go this in memory of my 98 camaro z28 that got total in a car accident

  • There's a few hard parts. But I built this 2 and a half years ago, there's a lot more parts available for the swap than there was when I did it. It is 100% worth the effort, keeping up with a C5 Z06 on the street in a car that looks like mine, that's what it's all about. I modified my frame to fit the oilpan in, but I understand an oilpan from an H2 5.3L fits like it was make for the car. And there are mounting kits available from advance adapters and things like that.

  • nice lookin swap.

  • whats the gas miliage with the ls1

  • I get about 18mpg in the city, I've never really tried on the highway, but I would imagine it would get a great deal better.

  • thats nice you can make that an every day driver with that miliage

  • so, what frame changes did you have to make for the mounting? I have an 86 silverado (short wheel) and recently got my hands on a drivetrain from a 07 suburban......thx!

  • I had to notch a small section from the rear of the cross member to fit the oilpan. But the oilpans are different in the trucks, they are deeper and sit back further. I don't think you'll actually have any issues fitting that in. I have an 81 GMC, and I had looked at doing that swap as well. I ended up just doing a TBI swap cause it's cheaper.

  • fuckin beautiful, how easy was the swap? I hear its a pain...

  • Well I didn't find it too difficult. The one problem is that the oilpan doesn't clear the crossmember, I had to actually cut out about a 4"X8" section from the rear of it, and box it all in, since the oil pan is cast aluminum, and is part of the structural integrity of the block, I didn't want to mess with that, and I had to build my own headers, and the wiring is a bit tricky. Other than that it was pretty straight forward. Although I'm a licensed mechanic.

  • good luck on the build

  • nice monte. how much hp is the ls1 puttin out?

  • I've never actually had it on a dyno, but with the few things I've done to it, I figure in the neighborhood of 375 at the flywheel, and a bit over 300 at the wheels. It's still a work in progress.
