do you know how to do this on sony? I tried nlite n changed the sata driver to achi, but it still not working because sony won't boot the cd i created on nlite. maybe I did something wrong, but can do a tutorial on Sony laptop? my laptop is a vgn-nr110e.

@DefconComputers Thanks, yeah just check seems this computer I was downgrade couldn't install it without overheating. My graphics card was overheating badly during the isntallment and since the processor cards are next to it, will yeah. I got through it and installed it but it seems my computer can't maintaine it even after installing all the necessary drivers, whenever it overheated it crashed so might need to buy a new cooler or external GFX card holder and card.
@SanokoDAsuia do u get a bsod when it crashes? couse thats what happend 2 me when i was restoring my xp machine. 2 fix the problen i just bought another hdd from bestbuy 4 80bucks, not a big deal. :)
At 05:13 after "Setup is starting windows", my pc gets an error and I can't do anything except to just manually shut off my pc... Been trying to go from vista -> xp for +4 hours now x.x
@DefconComputers I'd like to have Windows Vista on my PC just to see how it works! This is why I'm here to make sure if I can get back to XP! ;)
Anyway I don't wanna risk so I'll send you a PM with my computer's performances and could you tell me if my computer will run Windows Vista good! Through if it's a slow Windows as I've heard I don't want to install it! Is just a waste of time and money! :)
@kevmanev Well the message should come up either way if there is something on the hard drive. In this case it sounds like it's not even reading the cd. Make sure the CD drive is clean, and if you have another CD drive laying around try that in it.
I'm trying to do this but I always get a message that says "atapi.sys file corrupted press any key to continue" and it boots me out of the setup. Any idea what this is?
@hellrazorforever Could be any number of reasons with a new system. Be sure to have the RAM and HD tested before going further with it. Other than that it could be a simple incompatibility of XP with a piece of the system's hardware.
@DefconComputers i guess it is incompatibility `cause I installed vista and it runs really good.I also booted a ubuntu live cd and i worked.I guess I am stuck with vista.:(
hey i upgraded to vista a long time ago on my laptop which has a sticker that says designed for windows xp, so now i can bearily start it without it flahing and flickering and freezing. i think its because of incompatable graphics for vista but i dont know. help please?
Listen what about my original licenses of windows vista that's coming with my Dell PC it will be lost? No need to use anymore? I make downgrade even I have windows xp it's was easy to do it, that's doesn't mean its downgrade from windows xp to vista like you said, you make format and you install windows xp its simple way man your video is nothing wasting my time.
listen i have windows xp home edition and im trying to reformat it with windows xp home edition but when i try to do that it says the current version you have is newer than the one on the cd (I used the same cd to reformat it the last time i reformated it)so i cannot reformat the computer plz help me
@GunzPure1 You have to boot the computer off the CD, and not put it in when windows is already running. Check my other videos for booting up off a CD.
I have a Dell Inspiron 530S Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 450@2.20 GHz 2.00 RAM 32-bit Operating System Windows Vista Home Basic service pack 2 ....anyway that i can make my battlefield 2 game work? because it says the game was not tested for vista and when ever i try to start it up it crashes back to the desktop -reply ASAP please-
@Bigpimpmike786 You have probably already done this, but make sure your drivers are up to date for the graphics card. I think I had the same issue on one of my laptops and it was running XP. Turned out the card could take it, but because they no longer updated the drivers for that model it wouldn't work.
@DefconComputers im running vista not XP but the game compatibility mode i set it to windows XP still instantly crashes to desktop.....i recorded what happens on hypercam so go to my profile and look for it.
@DefconComputers: Every time i press any key to boot from the cd. after it gets to the point at 3:31 in the video, a blue screen comes up and it says Windows Detected a problem with my system, and i cannot continue from there. Can You PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Help me?
For it to occur at that point I would think it would be a hardware issue, most likely ram to cause that. Run a full RAM test on your system using memtest 86+ and let it run for a couple hours.
If that comes back fine, test the hard drive next, because this point is also where it starts checking the file system for extra recovery options.
@Tornadoty I never heard of vista doing that, security software would prevent a download. I assume you mean run a program? If so try right clicking and running it as administrator
Its a problem a lot of people have. Its with avg. Its this game called maplestory. When ever i try to play it says u may not have the correct permissions.... Any help would be nice
Yeah that's a problem running as administrator would probably fix. Just right click on it and try running it as admin. If that fails use the XP compatibility mode combined with running as admin. I have a video on running apps as admin on here.
If the compatibility mode, and running as admin does'nt fix it then they need to issue a fix/update for the game.
I am trying to find the motherboard driver for my Acer Aspire 5515 athelon2650e, 32 bit to incorporate into xp pro sp2 to switch from vista. Can u plzzzzzzz help?
Hi guys, the best way to do this safely is before you start downgrading install any driver software to back up the drivers e.g driver genius, back the drivers and copy them into a USB then follow the steps that are in the video. i have tried it that way and it worked.
It's best to download all the drivers from the manufacturers site, so you get the latest and can be sure they are for your system. Obviously they need to be on a USB drive =)
Help I'm scared, Im currently running windows vista home basic, and vista is causing problems/its annoying so I want to install my old Windows Xp 2002 CD. what will happen? I dnt want to do this then I can never get vista back since it vista was pre-installed on my cpu. HELP :(
@RSFourgiven If you are worried that a downgrade will not work, then make sure you have your Vista restore disks, if they did not come with your computer (probably didn't) then you need to contact the maker of the computer and order a set (Usually $20 plus shipping)
You need to get them from who ever made the device. There are sites that make third party drivers, but they are not guaranteed to work, or may not even exist for your hardware, not to mention the possibility of viruses in them, etc. I never download third party drivers as it usually causes more issues than they help fix.
If you have'nt already, do a full format compared to a quick. Make sure your XP cd does not have any scratches, dust, dirt, etc. Test your ram as well to make sure it is working correctly.
In one odd scenario I saw a bad CD/dvd drive cause this.
Check my notes about the hard drive controller issues. You need the drivers for your ACHI/RAID controller, or need to set your SATA drives to be SATA mode in your bios.
It would be the same process. However I doubt that Windows 2000 will be able to see any of the newer network cards, sound cards, etc. Or that driver support exists for any newer hardware with win2k
I have this problem, that when I reboot my Vaio Laptop with XP 3 to downgrade from Vista, instead of asking me which hard drive i want to chose to do the installation, it said that there is no hard drive in my computer ... =.=
It's because of the drive controler. You need to go in the bios and set it to not use raid, or get the drivers and a floppy drive so XP can see the drive.
Finally check your system's bios to make sure that virus warning, or boot virus monitoring is turned off. I have seen those create their own little message on operating system installs.
For the love of internet people, I added a comment to the video about the hard drive message. So maybe this will cut down on the same question over and over?!
some one please answer my question i just downloaded a windows vista pack and im having seriouse doubts about it i want to know if all it takes to get windows xp back is to download the windows xp pack and everything will be back to normal?? and will i have my old task bar back?
right, just a quick question, it all goes fine until it should get to the xp setup screen, where i just get a message telling me that "windows detected an error and shutdown to prevent damage to the machine" then i have to restart the pc....... any ideas??, cheers
Test your RAM and HD to make sure they are in perfect working order.
If both are fine then you could have a piece of hardware windows is detecting that is incorrectly detected or using bad drivers. Finally it is possible the hardware is not working right.
Remove extra hardware, sound cards, firewire, and try to install again after testing the HD and RAM.
this is worthless, i have a HEPC 7511, it came with Vista home basic, i upgraded to vista ultimate, but i dint like so i tryed installing Windows XP Pro, done it all fine but it aint fine when there is no drivers for Ethernet or Wireless, now am back on slow Vista Ultimate HELP
If your manufacturer doesn't make drivers for XP, they just don't make drivers. All you can do is use what works in the system natively and get hardware that is supported.
I'm just not technical, not your fault. I was looking or an easy way. I wish I had my old HP Desk Top with XP, I miss it. I have a Fujitsu Lifebook with Vista. All the device and driver back ups and all that just totally overwhelms me. Thanks for you video all the same.
Well your not really making a backup of your drivers, you just need to go to Fujitsu's website and look to see if they have drivers for your model, for windows xp. If they do, great, if not your stuck. Besides Vista's not bad in my opinion it's just many people were never shown the basics of it, so it's small differences cause everyone to blow Vista out of proportion.
ok... so how do i 'rescue' my graphics, sound card, and things of that nature? will they get wiped out? and also, im having trouble getting rid of vista. mine messes up at around 5:23 and it just restarts my computer rather than continuing.
I assume it tells you that you don't have a hard drive. You need to either change how your hard drive controller works in your bios, or get the hard drive controller drivers for XP. Before doing the downgrade get all of your drivers downloaded for your network card, graphics, etc from the system manufacturer's website
but i go to the bluescreenn, ugh, the bluescreen of death, ive been tryna get xp for like 1year,window vista is a real rip off,my friend, i want, ppeople,to know that, if you can plz, help me get bac to xp. thank youu.
i'm pretty sure it's F12, when booting up your computer it will tell you which on to press but it happens quickly so you have to be paying attention. It took me a couple of trys to actully see mine.
hey, can i downgrade to XP if my computer came with vista? it was never xp to begin with and i dont think its possible unless you like download XP from somewhere else... btw i fuckin hate vista
I have a valid CD and product key, I keep getting the message that it can't detect a hard drive. I don't have a floppy drive and wasn't aware that I needed to install any raid drivers, it's just a standard Packard Bell. If I do need them, how do I do it?
With XP the only way to get those raid drivers in would be a floppy disk, and pressing F6 on the setup start up. Shortly after you get the blue setup screen there will be a message to press F6 for additional setup files.
XP setup is dumb and only knows to check the floppy drive for additional drivers
I'll have to make a video on that. I might be able to do that one tomorrow, but no guarantee. I've had some stuff going on the last week that's been keeping me down so.
In summary open the case, check the drive interface type, and connect it to another using an external drive kit to be safe.
I set my c drive (local drive) security setting to all deny and now My c drive is acess denied, I cant open each of under parental control's program, I cant install everythings, include create new account for window, help pls!!
I assume you are talking about XP. Usually the issues there revolve around not having the drivers during the install. You just have to go to the manufactuerer's website and get the boot time driver for the SATA controller
>_>; In the beginning of the video, you should sho us what to do there... Because I don't know what to do, and even if I put the CD in, it doesn't even start.

Help I'm scared, Im currently running windows vista home basic, and vista is causing problems/its annoying so I want to install my old Windows Xp 2002 CD. what will happen? I dnt want to do this then I can never get vista back since it vista was pre-installed on my cpu. HELP :(
RSFourgiven 2 years ago
@RSFourgiven If you are worried that a downgrade will not work, then make sure you have your Vista restore disks, if they did not come with your computer (probably didn't) then you need to contact the maker of the computer and order a set (Usually $20 plus shipping)

You will need drivers. I have another video, that describes the whole process.
However the chances of getting XP drivers for new hardware is decreasing, and you are going to use an OS that is already way out of date.
Check the manufacturer's website for drivers for XP, and if they are'nt there, chances are an XP downgrade will not work.

You need to get them from who ever made the device. There are sites that make third party drivers, but they are not guaranteed to work, or may not even exist for your hardware, not to mention the possibility of viruses in them, etc. I never download third party drivers as it usually causes more issues than they help fix.

when i do it it always stops right when it is going to set up. It tells me to check for viruses, there aren't any. What should i do?
Pugzillas 2 years ago
If you have'nt already, do a full format compared to a quick. Make sure your XP cd does not have any scratches, dust, dirt, etc. Test your ram as well to make sure it is working correctly.
In one odd scenario I saw a bad CD/dvd drive cause this.
DefconComputers 2 years ago
@DefconComputers my dvd drive is fine, and the cd works because i have tested it before, but it isn't working for my hp laptop

Any luck on trying to test your RAM using MemTest 86+ or running the hard drive through a sector by sector test with something like Spinrite?
DefconComputers 2 years ago
You would go to your PC maker's website and download the sound drivers and install them

i keeep getting the no hard drive msg when i hit enter. any help?
youngshorty30 2 years ago
Check my notes about the hard drive controller issues. You need the drivers for your ACHI/RAID controller, or need to set your SATA drives to be SATA mode in your bios.
DefconComputers 2 years ago
Why would you do that
matt500ful 2 years ago
@matt500ful
because vista sux
GamerzDream 2 years ago
I still think Vista would perform better than 2000 because of the improved multi threading and processing. Besides Win2k was horrible with gaming.
DefconComputers 2 years ago
It would be the same process. However I doubt that Windows 2000 will be able to see any of the newer network cards, sound cards, etc. Or that driver support exists for any newer hardware with win2k

PERFECT!! Thanks for taking the time to do this--it went just as you showed me. BYE BYE VISTA and GOOD RIDDANCE!!

I have this problem, that when I reboot my Vaio Laptop with XP 3 to downgrade from Vista, instead of asking me which hard drive i want to chose to do the installation, it said that there is no hard drive in my computer ... =.=
pignguyen02 2 years ago
It's because of the drive controler. You need to go in the bios and set it to not use raid, or get the drivers and a floppy drive so XP can see the drive.
DefconComputers 2 years ago
the vista hdd soft dosent let you install xp ,i have the same problem
lazarandrei2008 2 years ago
I assume you put the XP cd in while Vista was running?
Once you put the CD in you need to reboot your computer and boot from the CD.
DefconComputers 2 years ago
Finally check your system's bios to make sure that virus warning, or boot virus monitoring is turned off. I have seen those create their own little message on operating system installs.
DefconComputers 2 years ago
That sounds a bit strange. Usually the 7b series of blue screen errors are related to hardware.
Reread that message you are getting and look for spelling errors, if it's full of them, then you do have a virus.
If it looks legit, make sure there is no antivirus software on the computer when doing the downgrade. (Should'nt be if you are wiping and reloading)
DefconComputers 2 years ago
you cant install on operating sys it will block (compatibility issues)

For the love of internet people, I added a comment to the video about the hard drive message. So maybe this will cut down on the same question over and over?!

I have dell inspiron 1420...i have 2 drives one is C and the other is recovery...
while doing the same as u did, i came up with a diff...!
The Blue screen says windows setup(top)
setup is starting windows(bottom)
i dont get the same screen like you..!!
i get that the setup cannot complete press F3 to reeboot..!!
Vickramjason 2 years ago
This is not downgrading. Downgrading is running the XP setup within Vista, and selecting downgrade.
This is formatting. You lose your programs, data.
Windows446 2 years ago
The XP disk does not give you an option to do that, this is the only way to downgrade to an older operating system.
You don't lose programs and data if you made backups of them.

some one please answer my question i just downloaded a windows vista pack and im having seriouse doubts about it i want to know if all it takes to get windows xp back is to download the windows xp pack and everything will be back to normal?? and will i have my old task bar back?

Hey can you please tell me how do i boot from CD?
GamingHD 2 years ago
right, just a quick question, it all goes fine until it should get to the xp setup screen, where i just get a message telling me that "windows detected an error and shutdown to prevent damage to the machine" then i have to restart the pc....... any ideas??, cheers
darksidejungalist 2 years ago
This is could be several possible things.

FSHighDefinition 2 years ago
If your manufacturer doesn't make drivers for XP, they just don't make drivers. All you can do is use what works in the system natively and get hardware that is supported.

I'm just not technical, not your fault. I was looking or an easy way. I wish I had my old HP Desk Top with XP, I miss it. I have a Fujitsu Lifebook with Vista. All the device and driver back ups and all that just totally overwhelms me. Thanks for you video all the same.
canaan1967 2 years ago
Well your not really making a backup of your drivers, you just need to go to Fujitsu's website and look to see if they have drivers for your model, for windows xp. If they do, great, if not your stuck. Besides Vista's not bad in my opinion it's just many people were never shown the basics of it, so it's small differences cause everyone to blow Vista out of proportion.
DefconComputers 2 years ago
ok... so how do i 'rescue' my graphics, sound card, and things of that nature? will they get wiped out? and also, im having trouble getting rid of vista. mine messes up at around 5:23 and it just restarts my computer rather than continuing.
RyanHehl 2 years ago
I assume it tells you that you don't have a hard drive. You need to either change how your hard drive controller works in your bios, or get the hard drive controller drivers for XP. Before doing the downgrade get all of your drivers downloaded for your network card, graphics, etc from the system manufacturer's website

Did you get this blue screen after XP was installed and running or during the install
DefconComputers 2 years ago
Are you talking about getting into the bios or the Additional drivers screen? The additional drivers screen is always F6
DefconComputers 2 years ago
i'm pretty sure it's F12, when booting up your computer it will tell you which on to press but it happens quickly so you have to be paying attention. It took me a couple of trys to actully see mine.
realawal54 2 years ago
It depends on his computer which key to press to get into the bios. If he is talking about the Additional drivers screen it is always F6

hey, can i downgrade to XP if my computer came with vista? it was never xp to begin with and i dont think its possible unless you like download XP from somewhere else... btw i fuckin hate vista
Snigglesnock 2 years ago
You need to have a Windows XP license to be able to do that legally. You can still buy an OEM copy of XP in some places online.
Just wait for october / November and get a copy of Windows 7

I have a valid CD and product key, I keep getting the message that it can't detect a hard drive. I don't have a floppy drive and wasn't aware that I needed to install any raid drivers, it's just a standard Packard Bell. If I do need them, how do I do it?
GMT0782 2 years ago
With XP the only way to get those raid drivers in would be a floppy disk, and pressing F6 on the setup start up. Shortly after you get the blue setup screen there will be a message to press F6 for additional setup files.
XP setup is dumb and only knows to check the floppy drive for additional drivers
DefconComputers 2 years ago
Thankyou for the reply. In the end, I managed to bypass the raid drives by switching to sata in bios. XP is now installed and fully functional.

Erm... Can you show me the step for pull out the drive and connect it to another?? pls
My1060 2 years ago
I'll have to make a video on that. I might be able to do that one tomorrow, but no guarantee. I've had some stuff going on the last week that's been keeping me down so.
In summary open the case, check the drive interface type, and connect it to another using an external drive kit to be safe.

I set my c drive (local drive) security setting to all deny and now My c drive is acess denied, I cant open each of under parental control's program, I cant install everythings, include create new account for window, help pls!!
My1060 2 years ago
You will need to use a startup disk or pull the drive out of the system and connect it to another.
The only way you will fix this issue is to perform a full reset of all drive permissions.
Other choices include backing up your data with another computer, and reformating the drive.

No offense, but if you cannot find the drivers yourself, this might not be a project you should take on.
Check your PC maker's website and look for the model.

The most common problems revolves around SATA drives, this is just a regular install, if you have info on that please post
NCKevNic 2 years ago
I assume you are talking about XP. Usually the issues there revolve around not having the drivers during the install. You just have to go to the manufactuerer's website and get the boot time driver for the SATA controller
DefconComputers 2 years ago
>_>; In the beginning of the video, you should sho us what to do there... Because I don't know what to do, and even if I put the CD in, it doesn't even start.
Yoona228 2 years ago
That will vary PC to PC. All I can say in general is go into your bios, and make sure the CD drive is set to be the first boot device.
