The £60mil is the additional cost of security. You'd simply have to be blind or not trying, to have avoided discovering this fact.

The UK monarchy will always do right by the people because they are so paranoid of being ousted. Its the best assurance one can have.

People moan about monarchs, but you have to remember, although they may well not be democratic, our queen sure does help uphold our democracy and she has been taught from birth to love and know the British society and she has more knowledge on our society and its history than any politician ever has an will.

By having a monarchy in this country we are lending respectability to the idea of hereditary rule. We are providing many brutal regimes around the world with a justification for their existence.
I'm sure you all heard the speech where Colonel Gaddafi justified his 42 year rule by mentioning that our current Queen had held her position for longer than he had.

Say the king's first born declines for personal reasons his right to come to power. (He actually was a womanizer and wanted an easy life). His smaller brother rules.
Years after ... the first born's son (of the guy who never ruled) wants to take back the power that would be naturally passed on to the daughter of that smaller brother.
There's debate over who is the next rightful ruler....

The security costs are paid for with the £40 million received overall in tax pay, the figure you have is probably a collection of costs which some substantial Royal events may have collectively cost, e.g. Royal Wedding & Trooping of the Colour, where the government has thousands of Police on duty and various precautions taken, in which case it is the governments payment of the funs not the Royal Family requesting them.

No. They aren't included in the $40 million figure. That's just the figure they receive. You can check the Parliamentary record, as well as coverage in both the Independent & Guardian. The £60mil is the additional cost of security. You'd simply have to be blind or not trying, to have avoided discovering this fact.
Your final argument is absurd. The usual application of the "but for the existence of the royal family, would this cost be incurred", should suffice for rational people.

Today monarchy is an entirely different thing than it was even 50-75 years ago. In Blighty you do not vote for who you want, you get a choice of candidates you can vote for, lots of other political parties exists but are not on the ballot paper.
The royal family cannot be charged with any crime, they are immune from prosecution.
Most of our laws are made foreign countries, we pay tens of millions each year to support Spain.

Desperate to defend their privilege the Windsors employ a huge PR team who work around the clock to promote the royal brand. Unable to point to any meaningful purpose the Windsors claim simply to work hard, despite the evidence. They repeatedly remind us of what they do for charity, although what they do is of questionable value and could be done without the royal titles and the hundreds of servants. This family costs us £75 million a year. -

Brazil is a presidentialist republic supposedly democratic. We had a monarchy from 1822 til 1889. Orleães e Bragança Dinasty descends form portuguese royal family. The power remained on the hands of emperors: Dom (a noble title) Pedro I (in english Peter) and Dom Pedro II (they're not me). The monarchy fell down after a republican coup d'état/revolution. Brazil became poorer and republican politicians are corrupt. People say parliamentarism is better. But what kings do in parliamentarism?

@MsMariah61 - I have said in previous posts that the US is a great country and I believe that to be true. It is a beacon of light to many opressed and disadvantaged peoples in the world. Its military and economic might make it the primary power in the World and thus gives its citizens many advantages and sets the US as the World leader in many international bodies. Sometimes the US gets it wrong and sometimes its citizens appear arrogant, it is these traits that attract the ire of many posters

MsMariah dont get cocky now ok..i am an american and we all know our history of wars and the US alone could not of defeated the man power and industrial power of germany if the brits and russia werent allies with us..and same goes for russia and britain.they could not of defeated germany without us.it goes both ways.it took 3 major allies and countries to defeated GERMANY. had hitler not got arrogant and actually listened to his commanders he would not of sent half his troops to russia in winter

What bothers me more is the fact that all those countries think they are superior to so called third world countries....however...third world countries built all the european countries to what they are now....and the americas.

The US was one of many countries that fought against the Axis Powers in WWII. @SuperMrSky What do you mean America helped England a few American soldiers joined the English army cos they knew Germany was growing much more powerful and therefore if they defeated us English which they didn't America would be speaking German as well as us before WW2 though America was pretty dedicated and they was helping us they just didn't in WW2 they stepped in too late probably out of fear Americas attitude was to it hands-off it doesn't concern us as it was strictly a European war.

What about their decendants today who are still treated like second class citizens and kept on reserves or ghettos? What about the Hawaiian people today who want the return of their Island that was taken from them by the US at the start of the 20th Century?

Every study held over the last 30 years has shown at least 65% support of the monarchy, current stats sit at arount 70% and 74% of people under 25 support the Monarchy. Do you just pull information out of your arse so it suits your anti royal agenda, so they take some money, the cultral significance of the Monarchy is priceless and age old.

@MsMariah61 Let me start my reply by correcting your spelling. "He's" needs an apostrophe, since it is a contraction of "He is". Secondly, there's a difference between "your" and you're". In this case, you want to use "you're", since you're saying "If you are so FOR the royal family..." (i.e. 'you are'). Also, the preferred usage is "U.K." (United Kingdom), as England is only one of the constituent countries thereof. Finally, as a matter of fact, I have indeed immigrated to the U.K.
