It's really amazing how simple your logic is, and it's amazing how much effort the church has put into making every life guilty,unworthy, and duty; and how each of us should eschew our own blood relatives when they choose their own way. your son is not evil and god doesn't think you or him are bad like you said. He died for you because he loves you and blah blah blah , you of all ppl know the rest. I think that you might just have explained some of my psychological issues...such as feeling of never being able to measure up to expectations and unreasonable feelings of guilt. I was told since infancy that I was an awful sinner in need of redemption, and I was responsible for Jesus dying. I don't think that these parents really think about the negative effects that these messages could have on children in the long run.

I still go to church even though I have become an agnostic. I changed my mind in the last year because of what the bible teaches about homosexuality. I just go for the social aspect, and who knows maybe I will be able to influence people enough to help them to commit the sin of thinking about what the bible really teaches about breaking the sabbath, and gay people etc.

I always hated how they teach that we're not animals like the rest (despite the undeniable similarities) and that it was all put here just for us. If we're not animals, and somehow set above everything else then why are we bound by the same rules they are? Why do we lose limbs, catch diseases, defecate, urinate, get tired when we run? If he really wanted humans to be so special then why not do away with all of that messiness and actually give us appropriate attributes and sensibilities?
I can't stand arguments like the fine-tuning one, where people assume that everything is here just for us. That we are 'special' and superior to all other creatures in this universe.

When I was first introduced to god at the age of 5 I was disappointed to find that he wasn't Scottish like me. The creation story had me shaking my head in disbelief because it just didn't ring true and when it came to the talking snake I was literally facepalming. The similarities of some of what I went through as a child is remarkably simliar, the same as what my son is currently going through with his own grandad now. Pain in child birth has varying degrees. God gave women pain in childbirth and men frustration in making a living to drive man and women back to complete dependence on the creator and that purpose is an eternally great purpose that far outwieghs the temporary pain and discomfort.

I never understood the animals on the ark, why did he have to save the animals? It couldn't be because the animals, like Noah, were considered special. This is a God who supposedly created these animals in just six days, why would he have to save the animals with a boat, did he lose the pattern or something.

I am not responsible for what Adam and Eve did (May Allah be pleased with them). You were born pure and innocent and sin free. Later on you became whatever you are now by your own choices but you were born pure and innocent. When children die they go to Jannah Heaven. There is no original sin that is a lie.

I think your view on God is all twisted. The fact that I was born with original sin means that I shouldn't judge you or anybody else for their sins without taking a serious look at myself. Original sin means that when you feel guilty for something, you're not alone, and there is a way to get rid of the guilt.

God, Jesus, Holy Spirit) Babies don't go to hell...they haven't reached the age of accountability. Those with severe mental retardation do not go to hell...aren't capable of choosing. You are!

The world events are proof to me that His word is Truth. Famine, wars, sexual perversion, catastrophic events. If Allah (your name for your god) tells you you need to trust Christ as Savior, there is no difference.

Everything that the Od Testament prophets prophesied has happened...that is all but one event...when Jesus comes back to claim the living and the dead that are his. Revelation(written by John) finalizes all that God intends for us to know concerning what will happen after that event. Science has not been able to disprove any of the Bible...and that is what is so awesome...try as they may! Babies can't choose. Logic.

I certainly don't claim to understand all that God has allowed...but I know His son...and I believe I have been redeemed through him.

@bonnie43uk God puts within everybody the desire to know Him. That's why there are missionaries. Those who seek him diligently will have the opportunity to come to know Him. The Bible teaches that marriage is between a man & a woman...not a man & a man or a woman & a woman. You may not have asked Jesus to pay anything for you, but he did because he loves. Whether you accept him is totally your choice. There had to be a redeemer for their to be access to heaven. God can't look upon sin.
@cmariegun But Jesus didn't pay the price for everyone's sin, if he did then we'd all go to heaven. What he did was CHANGE the price for everybodies sin. It's like you've got a mortgage (for a house you never consented to buy because I never consented to having "original sin") and someone buys the mortgage. When I was a kid I remember trying to sleep in every Sunday. Pretending that I was still asleep even when my mom would yell for me to get up and get ready for church. I liked my church friends but I hated going. Sitting in a pew that killed my back and having beliefs shoved down my throat. I liked the thought of heaven but was always told that all of us were sinners and all I ever thought of was "why? I'm a good kid." I'd never put my kids through that.
You know what's really strange? I always saw my mother and father as so much more kind and loving than God. I never once in all my life WONDERED if they loved me. Even when my sister outed me (as being a lesbian - she found a letter from a gf) at the dinner table one night....my parents were amazing. SHE got in trouble for snooping in my room (& also breaking some of my albums), and I got kindness and compassion. THAT - seems logical. I wasn't hurting anyone. My parents, unlike God, were fair.
@kcgirlgeek Sounds like your parents really were amazing. :) It wasn't hard for me to imagine God loved me more than my family did. I never believed in a really & truly ALL powerful god, so it wasn't his fault (to me) when things went wrong. It was only as I accepted the idea of omnipotence being a characteristic of the Biblical god that I began to doubt his morality (which I now despise.)

Back when my mother used to attend masses at the local Methodist church she would sometimes take me with her. When I was around 5 she decided to leave me in the Sunday school room so I wouldn`t interrupt mass by doing what little kids do; talking loud, making random noises etc. The teacher was talking about Noah`s arc. I was unwilling to go along with it as soon as she said "God told Noah..." When she got to the part about two of each animal being crammed onto a boat I walked out.

I am sure that you know this as it obvious you are a thinker. Sunday school is just one of the cornerstones of a cult. This is control. The use of fear and teachings to keep the flock intact and willing to give up 10% of earnings. It is sad that these ideas you spoke of are believed as truth but it is put together in a way to keep the church going. The original sin is a strong point you made as how can someone believe a baby would go to hell and burn forever if there is really a loving god.

I think that you might just have explained some of my psychological issues...such as feeling of never being able to measure up to expectations and unreasonable feelings of guilt. I was told since infancy that I was an awful sinner in need of redemption, and I was responsible for Jesus dying. I don't think that these parents really think about the negative effects that these messages could have on children in the long run.

The teachings of Sunday School do not make me feel guilty. It makes me happy that someone is willing to die for our sins. Actually, we are made in God's image, without sin. I still go to church even though I have become an agnostic. I changed my mind in the last year because of what the bible teaches about homosexuality. I just go for the social aspect, and who knows maybe I will be able to influence people enough to help them to commit the sin of thinking about what the bible really teaches about breaking the sabbath, and gay people etc.

I always hated how they teach that we're not animals like the rest (despite the undeniable similarities) and that it was all put here just for us. If we're not animals, and somehow set above everything else then why are we bound by the same rules they are? Why do we lose limbs, catch diseases, defecate, urinate, get tired when we run? If he really wanted humans to be so special then why not do away with all of that messiness and actually give us appropriate attributes and sensibilities?

When I was first introduced to god at the age of 5 I was disappointed to find that he wasn't Scottish like me. The creation story had me shaking my head in disbelief because it just didn't ring true and when it came to the talking snake I was literally facepalming. Everybody comes from Jewish tribes, everybody is Jewish after the big flood but they committed genocide on everybody that wasn't, is it a continuity error?

I never understood the animals on the ark, why did he have to save the animals? It couldn't be because the animals, like Noah, were considered special. I am not responsible for what Adam and Eve did (May Allah be pleased with them). You were born pure and innocent and sin free. I think your view on God is all twisted. The fact that I was born with original sin means that I shouldn't judge you or anybody else for their sins without taking a serious look at myself. Original sin means that when you feel guilty for something, you're not alone, and there is a way to get rid of the guilt.

Oh, but there IS evidence of my God...you just aren't accepting or looking. God won't send your son to hell because of you. God doesn't send anyone to hell. A person chooses hell for themselves because they don't repent and acknowledge their sin and ask Jesus (the ultimate sin sacrifice) for forgivenss. It's a personal choice. If there wasn't a hell, Jesus wouldn't have had to die on the cross....

Jesus is the mediator between God and man. The Holy Spirit indwells in anyone who accepts Jesus. (Trinity... God, Jesus, Holy Spirit) Babies don't go to hell...they haven't reached the age of accountability. Those with severe mental retardation do not go to hell...aren't capable of choosing. You are!

The world events are proof to me that His word is Truth. Famine, wars, sexual perversion, catastrophic events. If Allah (your name for your god) tells you you need to trust Christ as Savior, there is no difference.

I was curious how far you took your faith in that which you cannot know and compare that to that which we do know (through science/logic/evidence).

Everything that the Od Testament prophets prophesied has happened...that is all but one event...when Jesus comes back to claim the living and the dead that are his. Revelation(written by John) finalizes all that God intends for us to know concerning what will happen after that event. Science has not been able to disprove any of the Bible...and that is what is so awesome...try as they may! Babies can't choose. Logic.

@cmariegun I have read the Bible 3 times through. Once as a believer, once as a seeker of truth, and once as a full on sceptic.
Plenty of other books (ex. Jules Verne) have been just as predictive but not have as horrible and inhumane a proposition as a divine tyrant.
You said before "The Bible is all I need" but you clearly need logic before that! You are not employing logic in asserting the Bible as truth, only faith.

I am thankful that I am alive in the age of grace and not under the Old Testament laws that were specific to the Hebrew people. It is so easy. I respect you and your right to be a non-believer. I certainly don't claim to understand all that God has allowed...but I know His son...and I believe I have been redeemed through him.

It's like you've got a mortgage (for a house you never consented to buy because I never consented to having "original sin") and someone buys the mortgage. When I was a kid I remember trying to sleep in every Sunday. Pretending that I was still asleep even when my mom would yell for me to get up and get ready for church. I liked my church friends but I hated going. Sitting in a pew that killed my back and having beliefs shoved down my throat. I liked the thought of heaven but was always told that all of us were sinners and all I ever thought of was "why? I'm a good kid." I'd never put my kids through that.

You know what's really strange? I always saw my mother and father as so much more kind and loving than God. I never once in all my life WONDERED if they loved me. Even when my sister outed me (as being a lesbian - she found a letter from a gf) at the dinner table one night....my parents were amazing. SHE got in trouble for snooping in my room (& also breaking some of my albums), and I got kindness and compassion. THAT - seems logical. I wasn't hurting anyone. My parents, unlike God, were fair.

I never believed in a really & truly ALL powerful god, so it wasn't his fault (to me) when things went wrong. It was only as I accepted the idea of omnipotence being a characteristic of the Biblical god that I began to doubt his morality (which I now despise.)

Back when my mother used to attend masses at the local Methodist church she would sometimes take me with her. When I was around 5 she decided to leave me in the Sunday school room so I wouldn`t interrupt mass by doing what little kids do; talking loud, making random noises etc. The teacher was talking about Noah`s arc. I was unwilling to go along with it as soon as she said "God told Noah..." When she got to the part about two of each animal being crammed onto a boat I walked out.

Ok, let me respond here. You're concerns are well noted and the value and intrinsic worth you see in your son is legitimate. However, you subconsciously borrow from the theistic paradigm and invoke morality and worth without a point of reference to even hang those terms. And as for original sin - when the disciples asked Jesus what it took to get into Heaven, Jesus pointed to a child and said you must be as innocent as this child. And for Hell, God is a just judge, you know that.

@GENESISaFigment When I say something is evil, I'm describing an action which does harm (which can be observed, not made up harm like blasphemy.) I don't need a god or moral-law-giver to account for that. "The presence of accidence is the absence of purpose" Well by your own logic, I suppose all those accidental pregnancies that became children are now absent of purpose?

@GENESISaFigment Let me break it down for you. If I talk about god's attributes, I'm talking about the described character of the Bible (who is fictional, but lots of morons like you worship despite the evil actions attributed to him. I don't care if he's eternal or not - sending people to hell forever is EVIL. If your god exists as described, he is EVIL. Yes, I use my own human subjective morals to judge him so.

@AngieAntiTheist First of all, you used the word evil again, which contradicts yourself and you naturalistic framework of thinking. When you say evil, you assume purpose, but we're here by accident. Secondly, this is why Christ had to come. To counter evil and live for the good.

I don't have a hard time believing women-hating racist xenophobic jerks like the Israelites of old existed. I see them on YouTube all the time. Believing a GOD exists, well, that requires more evidence than jerks, and none's been provided so I'll keep NOT believing and also calling the *fictional god OTHER people think is real* an asshole.

i like the way u express your opinion but i dont agree with u, on many levels. but one in particular u mention dragging ur kids off to sunday school, i actually enjoy it. i love god very much and my parents never brain washed me how i found god was something most ppl dont go through. it was march 16th 08 and my grandpa was on his death bed from cancer. he wasnt able to talk, walk, or eat. the moment he passed he said quite clearly "i'm not supposed to say what heven looks like but its pretty"

I am sure that you know this as it obvious you are a thinker. Sunday school is just one of the cornerstones of a cult. This is control. The use of fear and teachings to keep the flock intact and willing to give up 10% of earnings. It is sad that these ideas you spoke of are believed as truth but it is put together in a way to keep the church going. The original sin is a strong point you made as how can someone believe a baby would go to hell and burn forever if there is really a loving god.
