  • Boss drummer stands up when he plays.

  • Beautiful music performed in such a gentle way.

    Roger Plafkin-Plafkin Farms, Ada, Michigan

  • One of my happiest moments in 1962, when I just had immmigrated from Germany to California, turned out to be an evening at the San Francisco 'Blackhawk' with HIM and the Quintet on stage.

Jack Kerouac wrote in "On the Road": "He was our God".

So he was mine and still is.

When he left us and became immortal, a piece of my very personal musical universe left with him. Thank you for your wonderful upload, bobjazz11 !

  • one of his best of all time!

  • You don't hear stuff like this today.

  • To have this here when I need it is a treasure. Is it possible to note the wonderful man who wrote this song...Alec Wilder? Thank you

  • thanks SIR GEORGE.you will always be around.god bless .r,i,p,

  • Sad we don't have music such as this today .. I long for the sweet and gentle sound.. RIP ..

  • Thanks to you tube, he'll always be around...

  • RIP George

  • R I P MR. SHEARING

  • Bless you George and thanks for all the wonderful years of fantastic music. You'll be miss and remembered fondly.

  • Gods Speed, you'll be missed by a lot of great players, Peace to you George.

  • funny when I was a kid I thought that brush sound was background static, but have always loved listening to George

  • Beautiful, but I think the engineer didn't like vibes, they're usually up a bit to blend with the guitar and block chords .... Still great!

  • I love to play the locked hand style voicing shearing is doing - its beautiful

  • Even at 90 years old, Sir George is still playing....just not publicly as he is enjoying his retirement.

  • am going to make a beat out this is song is sick

  • If ever I'm feeling blue I come here and listen to this. I first heard him on a 78 in the late forties! Such a great distinctive sound.

  • Actually the correct personnel from this 1950 Snyder Transcription is Don Elliott-vibes (Margie Hyams' replacement), Chuck Wayne-guitar, Denzil Best-drums John Levy-bass (still with us at 97 and even older than Sir George at 90!)

  • George Shearing...Forget my question:-)

  • Yes! KILLER- Bless you for posting- also, Denzil Best on drums, Incredible Chuck Wayne-Guitar, Dick Hyams -vibes.... wonder why the piano didn't self- ignite after Shearing's searing run... Ha HA!

  • So sad, tat he isn't "around" any longer ... Wolf

  • Sweeeeet! I love this guy and what a killer band!

  • The great Al McKibbon on bass.

  • I first heard the quintet in the early fiftys and quickly fell in love with the sound . Sadly other then the blind Brit I don't know who the rest of the players are

can any one help me on that

    Marty

  • im not a fan of jazz, but it always calms me down, and when i heard this song on tv at 4 oclock in the morning, i fell asleep to it, its very nice and soothing, hes a great artist

  • His Cuban recordings are great too during this era.

  • as i have said before nobody plays block chords better than george he is the greatest

  • Incredible. Truly magnificent.

  • Shearing is my absolute favorite jazz pianist! None, better!

  • This takes me back to his old "MGM" days, when I bought my first shellac disc. and I've been listening to this guy for 55 years! The flip side to this was "As Long as there's Music". Play on George - play on.
