The Codec is for Boss fights or other scenarios where you are stuck, they don't pinpointedly explain the situations but offers a hint.

The only down-side? some people consider the Codec-folks annoying :/ (Not me)

I'm a mgs novice. I really like the game play and the gameplay aspects but I have to admit I would be playing this game much like how phil is playing it. One of the frustrating aspects of this pretty realistic game style is that you can't take your enemies' gun after they die so you are stuck with whatever gun the game gives you at the time. There really should be a tutorial to this game as the gameplay mechanics are very overwhelming from other run and gun type shooters.

Phil, this game plays better when you start utilizing the nuances to the control scheme. This game was made with a different generation of players in mind. The games and devs expected players to explore and use the game itself to their advantage in order to win.

Holding the player's hand and guiding them through each baby step wasn't part of their job description back then. You have played generations of games older than the Playstation and Genesis era; so it should be natural to accept this.

There's usually multiple ways to defeat or weaken (remove certain attacks etc.) bosses in the MG games. If you can't figure out how to do any of that, use your radio and call someone. They'll at least give you a clue how to beat them, if not outright spelling it out for you. In the newer MGs if you call them multiple times you'll get even more "hints".

As a diehard MGS vet, watching this had me punching my monitor in frustration. But you have to look at it from his perspective. MGS2 is 10 years old. The mechanics in this game can be overwhelming for a newcomer. Phil just needs to adjust and get comfortable with the control scheme before this playthrough can really start to take off. I'm only praying he adapts to it prior to the MG Ray Battle Royal.

@Goon36O Agreed , from 90's to 2000 era console gaming isn't that adapted to player about fluent easier controlling yet. think about games on that timeline like old school resident evil , silent hill and adventure game like this don't have today game's layout yet (like MGS4 and uncharted series). It didn't bad for the 2000 but it is not something we can compare to present era too. it is a little annoying by MGS fan like me. but it is acceptable from his perspective. I'm still like this

LOL Phil the way you fought the boss in the beginning made me laugh so hard . Thanks for making my day. Some tips along the game.

1. You should aim at there heads with your sleeper gun so they sleep INSTANTLY.

2. Behind them on there belt, you can shoot there radio to destroy it. They can't radio for backup when they see you and it gives u a brief moment to take them out.

3. If you shoot there Right arm and Left Leg with a pistol, its priceless to see how they try to get away.

This is an example of a game that Phil shouldn't play.. it's a sneaking game.. and phil just runs around in plain sight shooting at random. What you should do is learn the first person view to shoot when hiding. Olga obviously uses the searchlight to get a good view of Snake and make it difficult to see her. Take out the floodlight and crawl from one side to the other. Olga will be exposing herself if you stand at a good spot. It's quite easy once you know the basic mechanics of the game. GLHF!

This is funny that DSP is making a walkthrough of this game because I just finished watching the whole Metal Gear Series earlier today...well I finished watching Metal Gear Solid 4 today. Had been watching 2,3, and 4 this week.This is series is amazing I knew itwas a great game ever since I played Metal Gear 1 the cinematics are just crazy, this is probably the BEST story in gaming history point blank.I'd put Halo and Max Payne and Final Fantasy up there but Metal Gear definitely takes the cake!
