  • Thanks for the Mp3.... downloaded for copying to a CD for the car. More melancholy and mystical than Bob Dylan.... Great stuff....

  • @MrEricgal Thanks for listening.

  • @swimmyjojo2715 Thanks.

  • Magnificent!

  • @hhJACK92 Thanks.

  • Beautiful version

  • Thanks.

  • Well, I listened to it again 3 months after my first comment, and really enjoyed it. Another night I might have liked Dylan's more compelled, driven take on it; on a different night I might have like they Byrds' melodic / "wall of sound" approach. But tonight, Ken's understated, inquisitive encounter with the muse really hit the spot.

    Thanks Ken.

  • Thanks very much for such a positive and encouraging comment.

  • thats deep bro!

  • Thanks.

  • Pretty decent. Takes giant gonads to cover a song by Boy Dylan that has been covered by the Byrds and Judy Collins, but he acquits himself pretty well. --- Not a copy, brings a new take to it. I'm not sure I feel the urgent passion that would make someone follow a tambourine man anywhere he goes, but maybe that's the point.

  • Thanks for the detailed comment.

  • @emkimmel thats deep bro!

  • Wonderful!

  • thanks again.

  • great you are great. great great great.!!!!

  • Thank you.

  • You are a pile of shit next to Bob Dylan!

  • oh rly? bob dylan is awsome...but i doubt he would ever do this song again, so ya. i dare u to try make a better cover...i bet ur fail. Smash

    nice job ken!

  • And next to that pile of shit is you dribbling down the cracks in the pavement, you sad pathetic human being.

  • tres bien senti !

    cheers from France.

  • Thank you.

  • i'm right now listenin to some of your covers......

I really like those i listened to.

    BRAVO

    quelle réverb utilisez vous ?

  • YEAH THATS RIGHT! Woohoo Ken Middleton plays a Kanile'a- one of the best ukuleles in the world!

  • Ken - Magnificent.

I looked for simple songs with even simpler chord structures to learn.... and the way you did this....simplicity that is difficult to follow

    Really special - congrats

  • Thanks you SSD. That's a generous comment.

  • Even though that song was nearly 7 minutes I was transfixed the whole time. You clearly love the ukulele and did that song justice, the feeling was clear. I recently bought a Kanilea Tenor after seeing your video a few months ago, also found your tabs page the other day which I will be visting regularly. I just wonder where you find the time in the day to learn so many songs. Thank you, Please keep up the diversity. Peter.

  • Thanks Peter. I never learn songs - I either remember them or just play them. The Celtic and bluegrass tunes that I have tabbed though, I play exactly what I've written.

  • really nice cover dude,

looks like you really got into it.....

long may you strum, pick and sing.

    campbell

  • Thanks very much.

  • A truly great interpretation of a great song !

  • Thank you, Paul.

  • By the way what are those flashing lights around 2:57

  • Headlights in the mirror behind me.

  • Naw Ken fezzup you have your own little light show going on there... just for that 60's atmosphere:-)

  • Fine fine fine. The song was broken up between picking and strumming and the vocals in some places had that Cohen cadence.

Even when the melody diverged from the original it was for emotional and dramatic effect, and I had to think that the words of the song during those particular passage must have held some deep personal meaning for you.

But then again, perhaps you did it that way because you liked doing it that way.

  • The last line is correct. I just like doing it that way.

    Thanks for the comments.

  • Wow - nicely done, Ken! I'm sure Mr. Zimmerman, if he frequents these haunts, would enjoy your interpretation as much as I did.

  • Thanks very much.

  • WOaaaa ! You're amaizing . All your covers are so great .Good continuation

  • Another great tune from a true ukulele master!

  • Thanks very much.

  • just an incredible version ken!

    blew me away!

  • Thank you, Jeff.

  • Hi Adelle. Thanks.

  • wow, that was quite epic! i liked the energy

  • Thanks Shani. Glad you liked it.

  • Fantastic job Ken. Well up to your usual high standards. Looking forward to the next one.

  • Thanks very much.

  • so love your performances, once again, soulful and heartfelt...I play so much better...not to say I play well, but I LOVE it

    Thank You

  • My pleasure. Thanks.

  • It's a Zoom H2. It's a recorder and mic that runs on batteries, mains or usb.

  • ken , this is AWESOME!!!!!

  • Thank you so much.

  • I like your slower tempo. Great version.

  • Thank you, Mary-Anne.

  • In places your voice manages to reflect some of the weariness in Dylan's voice that I've always liked, and the playing is understated but delicate. Very nice version.

  • Thanks very much.

  • I like your version !

  • Thanks Bernd.

  • This is amazing Ken! I love the build up, and the highs and lows throughout it. Really beautifully done. You've definitely made it your own, and I like it better than the original.

  • Wow! Thank you, Michelle.

  • great stuff. this is my favorite style of yours; your voice is perfect for it. really really well sung and played.

  • Thanks for that comment.

  • Very nice!

Something just occurred to me, "mr tamborine man, play a song for me..." Are there any TAMBOURINE songs? I don't think I've ever heard one.

  • Lots of lead singers in 60's groups played the tambourine. Look at Davy Jones in "I'm A Believer" by the Monkees. He usually sings lead.

  • Sure, people have played the tambourine in a song, but I'm thinking about a tambourine ONLY song, a voice too perhaps. Ive seen drummers alone on stage for twenty minutes doing a solo. I've seen Mickey Heart onstage with a band consisting of only drummers.

But the Tambourine Man never gets his alone-time with the audience.

  • I can't think of a song for solo tambourine and voice.

I did once played the tambourine part in Copland's "Appalachian Spring" with the Shrewsbury Symphony Orchestra.

  • You are a really amazing person!

I think it's great that you respond to people's comments too.

  • Thanks.

The ukulele community is very supportive. Most uke players respond to comments. Only a few players (those with many thousands of subscribers) don't find it possible to respond.

  • Wonderful version Ken!

  • Thank you, Zoe.

  • nice version ken

  • Thanks K.

  • Loved it Ken. As Always. Best cover of this song that I've ever seen.

  • Thanks John. I wanted to make it sound a bit different.

  • Great sound, great singing, great rendition! Loved it!

  • Thanks very much.

  • ken.. you keep doing people i love!!!! and bob dylan is my opinion is.. well.. the TOPS when it comes to poets!! good job!

  • Yes, I agree, Dominic: Dylan's early songs are really something special.

  • Man and instrument indistinguishable.

Ken, that really was something very special - congrats. Easy style and accomplished skill makes it stand out

  • Thank you, Bill. That's one reason why I tend not to multi-track: I prefer to play live with just the ukulele, piano or guitar.

  • Your voice is definitely better sounding than the one of Dylan! And I like the way you change between strumming and picking, so smoothly!

  • I think it's important to vary the right hand technique within a song. But I don't really believe in strumming patterns.

  • Well done! Wonderful rendition of the song.

It's realy great how you canmake every song you ply "your own".

    Keep up the good work.

  • Thanks. One way of making it "my own" is that I don't usually listen to the original recording before I play it.

  • This is such a nice song, and you do a great job Mr. Middleton, sir. I have been watching/lisening to the Byrds with Dylan version on YouTube. It is my favourite all-time song, and just love the fact that you did it. I have been slaving away on it. i thought that if I was going to learn how to play some songs on the ukulele, I had to pick a favourite one! Thankyou! maybe some day you will do Lightfoot's The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald?

  • Thanks for the detailed comment. I appreciate it.

  • Ah ken,

    just lovely!

  • Thank you, Todd.

  • Dynamic, moving - just perfect Ken. Love the tempo and that awesome right hand of yours.

    Really works.

  • Wow! Thank you for that comment, Coyote.

  • Ken, this is lovely. I always look foward to your videos.

  • Thank you, Danielle.

  • Absolutly fantastic ... as always

  • Thanks Tim.

  • great version, like no one else, because you have your own beautiful style

  • Thanks for that, Alex.

  • Ken,

Have you taken delivery of your Pete Howlett custom uke yet? Just wondered what it was like.

    Regards,

    John

  • Not yet.

  • Awesome cover man! I really enjoyed it!

  • Thanks very much.

  • i like this song very much, you did a very special version. outstanding!

  • Thank you very much for that comment.

  • This is beautiful.

Your vocal on this is particularly good.

I don't know why, but this makes me want to hear a KenMiddletonUkulele version of Manfred Mann's, My Name Is Jack.

  • You have a really good memory for the old songs Tony, even though you can't actually have been born when that song was released.

  • I was - just. But I am the youngest of six kids so our collective record collectioon extended way berore I was born

  • Great as usual but your voice is better than ever. This "one shot" method really works great for you. Love it love it love it!

  • Thanks R. Apart from completely messing up the last minute, it has worked out quite well.

  • I will tell you exactly what you would tell me: nobody else will notice but you.

  • Someone noticed - they gave me 1 star. I don't know whether they dislike me, the song or ukuleles in general.

  • Bastards! I'll try to make up for it - I have given it 15 stars so far...

  • Haha. Don't worry too much, R. I'll get over it.

  • excellent rendition. great stuff Ken!

  • Thank you, Russ.

  • Yep, I like your spinning of this tune. Lot of emotion, or as UKI called it, drama.

  • Thanks Yoppy, it's always been a favourite of mine.

  • Great take on a classic!

  • Thanks HH.

  • Another great performance.

  • Thanks Steve.

  • Really, really nice..

  • Thank you, Tim.

  • I liked that. It had a real flow to it and a great rise and finish. If that makes sense. Great drama to the interpretation.

  • Thanks Alan. I like to try and put contrasts into songs if I can.

  • It is great to see you make this song your own! Sparkling performance!

  • Thanks very much, Michael.

  • Wow really made it your own

  • Thank you, Orla.

  • Really nice job Ken

  • Thanks Stephen.

  • really stunning. i'm glad you followed through with doing this. should be interesting!

to coin your phrase again - a room full of stars

    5*

  • Thanks Shane. It may have got more views if I had copied Dylan or the Byrds. But we'll see.

  • It didn't feel like 7 minutes. Great job updating a classic.

Best reason ever - "Because I want to."

  • Thank you, Deach. One of my all-time favourites.

  • very different, but I like it.

  • Thanks.
