I just started to listen to Bruce Fein on YouTube and he is extremely sharp... If I were president, I would make him Secretary of Defense or Secretary of State...
We're spending billions a week on these wars, they're going on 9 years, and it's never mentioned as a way to cut spending. They first mention cutting social programs.
As an Iraq war veteran, I can certainly understand that there's too much "short hand" in understanding the GWOT (which incidentally is now an obsolete term due to the game of semantics of the Obama administration). But whereas I come to have a greater understanding of the political motives and rationale of both Sunni and Shi'ite jihadists, that does not mean I am willing to simply leave them unopposed. It also means I will not be lectrured by the Paul bearers as to what our real interests are.
@jlbarber54 I will settle for mere stability and nothing so grand as was originally envisioned. COIN is not intended to bring about democracy but it can bring about an Iraq that is not hostile toward its neighbors. Our interests will remain in the region even if we are no longer in Iraq at the strength we once were.
@GOPsithlord From your answer, I still ask the question, What are the American interests for war in Iraq or for that matter, Afganistan? We have knocked the bin laden followers down to hundreds of members. I think the job is done and we should come home.
@jlbarber54 Our interests are natural resources and more importantly the containment and elimination of radical extremism (which is currently being exported both in the region and elsewhere) originating in that part of the world. The Sunnis have been knocked back, but the Shi'a are ascendendant and while I think our numbers should drop, we should not completely abandon our position.
@GOPsithlord This is where establishment Republicans loses me. I really believe in the founding fabric of The United States Of America and our Constitution. I really believe that our military is for the sole purpose of defending the homeland from physical attack and not for securing ownership of natural resources for corporate elites.
@GOPsithlord I also believe that only congress has the constitutional authority to declare war. As far as how the rest of the world runs their countries, well that is their business. I agree with Michael Schauer in that all foreign nations are not worth one drop of American blood or one taxpayer dollar.
@KhmerD0gI am sure Bush had his reasons for taking us to war but we will never be told the real reasons... I am just trying to see where in the constitution the executive has the authority...
we can guess the reasons he went to war against Saddam; 1) remove threat for Iran and Israel 2) get oil.
so far we benefit nothing.
bad news: 2 more U.S. soldiers were captured today in afghanistan. that raises a total of 3 so far. but it is believe one is already dead. we accomplish nothing in afghanistan. if those afghanis don't want our help to make a better life, we simply withdraw. let them live the way they wanted even if it is bad. who is to say our ways of life is better
All this bickering suits the guys in charge. I see it like this. While we are arguing moot points and getting absolutely no where, the rich and powerful (of which the vast majority of us do not belong) laugh while they run to their off shore bank accounts. How can anybody think clearly with artillery going off overhead. We do not need banks or currency. Just think ; no lobbyists, no greed, no corruption. 200 million people getting engaged like never before. I say we throw them all out.
If Ron Paul was elected, he would run into that same roadblock that exists now. Nothing would change. Representative govt has failed us. It is our duty to take back power (constitution says so). The constitution was written during the time of the horse and buggy. It was a logistical requirement to establish a representative govt. Now that is no longer valid. The internet makes it possible for the citizens to act in place of congress and the president. That is real conservatism!!!
I am totally against these perpetual wars. Wars with no end. Who gains by this? America and Americans need to put a stop to this. Sadly, without a draft or a war tax, I see no end.
To correct you with the facts ExtremeRecluse "Whats is your No creditability comment relative too? Campaign for Liberty was organized through the Ron Paul campaign, He was in the AirForce in active duty for five years, Plus he had more support from Military affiliates and contribution from military families than anyother canidate, now and up to the run up of elections in 08'.
You make it sound like ANYBODY who's in the military supports any war.. Ever heard of Adam Kokesh or RON PAUL who was in the military who has MORE SUPPORT FROM THE MILITARY THAN ANY ONE POLITICIAN lol. Jesse Ventura- A NAVY SEAL also opposes both wars. Enough said. Neocons ARe NOT Conservatives. To be against the wars, to be against "policing the world", fear mongering, 700 bases in 140 countries costing us 1 trillion a year is ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY a REPUBLICAN, CONSERVATIVE position.
If someone has a position that disagrees with this idea - they are entitled to have their own opinion okay.. BUT THEY ARE NOT A REAL CONSERVATIVE- THAT IS THE POINT HERE. All anyone has to do is look at first of all THE FOUNDERS and their advice- Jeffersons in particular- "Peace, Commerce and Honest Friendship will all nations- Entangling alliances with None". Washington also concurred. So the founders but also in the 20th century anyone can clearly see the conservative position was not pro war
Also no war since WW2 has been constitutional. No war since WW2 has been DECLARED which is MANDATED by the US Constitution-so any Neocon who doesn't agree can go read it lol. Authorization of force doesn't count as a declaration and UN Resolutions do not supercede the mandate to declare war. Real conservatives UNDERSTAND THIS. And BUSH as much as a PRICK as he was RAN AND WON on non-interventionist foreign policy.Real Conservatives are Against the War on Terror. Damn RIGHT they are!
