Manga is my favorite of the "graphic novels." And if we're going to talk about "heretic" graphic novels, although this one's not atheist... it would piss off a lot of xtians if they knew what it was... lol.
I used to read Vertigo comics. Within that vertigo arena were comics like HellBlazer, Books of Magic, Swamp Thing, Invisibles, Preacher, Sandman, etc.
I wanted to greatly thank you for the recomendation of "blankets" by Craig Thompson i never knew it was so popular in that genre of art , i really liked his relationship story with his first girlfriend and how growing up was in relation to his not religious position :).
I've got one called "Logicomix: An Epic Search for Truth" on my TBR list. Apparently it's about Bertrand Russell who I love to death. The only thing is since Russell's books are so enjoyable I'm always afraid that the books others write of him will lack that sly humor of his that I love so much.
Some day I'll get up the nerve to read someone else's summation of his life.
That last picture remindes me of Chick Publications. The material is really funny, but the guy is completely serious with his message. My family often finds his pocket comics left to be found here and there, so we pick them up along with other things like the million dollar question and other things for a good laugh. My sister actually made a big 'religous' advertising box to put the things in.
How about an Illustrated "God Delusion"? Just think of all those graphically-presented delusions ballooning out of believers' ears! And the "Great Satan" Dawkins hurling lightning bolts....
I would never censor my drawings or writings. I'd eat hamburgers made from sacred cows. If I could, I'd draw a picture of mohammad banging another man up the butt while eating bacon. I'd write about the "virgin" mother having a 4 way with 3 other guys and a penis in every hole.
Excellent! We were looking for something for our 10 year old that was non-fiction but still entertaining. I think the History of The Universe series will be just the thing. Thank you!
Im reading a Ben Bova right now(Titan) about the earth being taken over by fundie's and freethinkers are forced to live in a space habitat orbiting Titan.Mostly about socio-politics and not his best work...but works in a pinch.
My almost 15 year old nephew is really into graphic novels and is a budding freethinker. Do you think the Cartoon History of the Universe would be appropriate for him? He is a very smart boy.
I think it would be totally appropriate. My only complaint with it is that I sometimes get lost when Gonick goes too long without reminding us what year we're in.
Your CD is already on my Stuff Day wish list. Yes, Stuff Day. My grandma says Christmas is about the birth of Christ, so I celebrate Stuff Day so I don't offend her. It's the same thing as Christmas, but... without the birth of Christ aspect of the day. The stuff, the family, the food, the fun... that's what Stuff Day is about. (When I named it, it was only about the stuff... I wasn't getting along with my family at the time)

I don't know if you have had any tlaks of war: but I found a great saying on that subject.
"There are no atheists in foxholes" isn't an argument against atheism, it's an argument against foxholes. ~James Morrow
Maybe you could say something on the theme: War and religion sometime?

Cool.
Good old Neil Gayman. By the way, Gaiman also wrote books like 'American Gods', and one of my faves, 'Neverwhere'.

Graphic novels are so under-rated. They are so diverse and the combination of art and story-telling is like a different experience.
