  • Stafford Dean's porn moustache.

  • THE BEST DON GIOVANNI WITH SIEPI.

  • I love how the music changes when he starts talking about sleeping w/ all the women while everyone is dancing. So epic.

  • @thesir27 sleeping? what do you mean, seducing?

  • @anzolettilino sleeping with = sex. it's a figure of speech. but yeah, i suppose he plans on seducing them first, too

  • @thesir27ok, i see. thanks.

  • Thomas is awesome. He has that "predator" aura the Don needs and he sings like a god. But he'll always be Don G and Almaviva to me - I can't believe him when he plays a nice innocent guy, he has such a "Don" face :D

  • @Sieglinde84 thomas allen and Cesare siepi are the best don ever!

  • amazing italian! he speaks and sing it like an italian!(and beter, i am' italian).

  • senza alcun ordine is not difficult to sing.

  • alvez and ramey are the best don, die noch leben.

  • It's Friday, people!

OK Question: Why does Tom have a wig and Stafford not have one? Doesn't Stafford rate a wig? Was Tom's own hair not as awesome as Stafford's? What is the story here? ;)

I think we need to start scrutinizing wig and hair choices in these (have we exhausted costuming?) Wig, no wig, what kind of wig, little hair pieces, clip-on pony tails. Hair: seventies hair, eighties hair, etc. Fluffed up, slicked back, mashed down, etc. Fertile ground, indeed.

  • @drtmuir Wig and hair choices are a topic worthy of debate indeed. Also, facial hair.

The wig in this production looks kind of silly, but I love the widow's peak. Every self-respecting villain must have a widow's peak.

  • @antmusique Actually, the wig he had a couple of years prior to this was even worse. This is really an improvement.

Of course there was the double-decker wig in the Met "Nozze" in the '80s-- regular 18th-c. type wig, then the insane 80s wig stolen by Cherubino, which went on top.

The craziest wig I ever saw on Allen was a VERY long time ago, in a Haydn opera. He was playing a really ridiculous young man, with an almost Louis XIV wig. I have to try to remember the name of that opera . . .

  • @drtmuir @antmusique

It was the 80s. There's a lot to be forgiven. Let's just leave it at that ;)

  • Stafford Dean FTW!! I love these two together-- neither of them move like an opera singer. :P

"I really must leave this madman"-- But Leporello, he must pay you pretty well if you have such an awesome slashed doublet! ;)

  • What a great example of how to perform recitative. Just brilliant. Thanks for posting this!

  • wow!

  • I adore this man, so gooood!

  • It sounds like he's saying "Teco una quella cerca menar" instead of "teco ancor quella." See 1:59.

  • @ernestalba it is "teco ancor quella cerca menar" see2;00.

  • "Lets get a whole bunch of girls drunk so I can jump on them!" LOL

  • These two are GREAT together, Stanfford Dean is hilarious as Leporello and this was when Thomas Allen was playing Don G best! The aria/song itself may be just a little too fast but only just.
