This classic film was made by George Pal to show Edgar Cayce's fabulous concepts of Atlantis, based on works by Daniel Mainwaring and Sir Gerald Hargreaves, who based their work on Edgar Cayce. Unfortunately, he used too much stock footage from MGM's 1951 epic QUO VADIS, and made Atlantis' art and architecture look Graeco-Roman, when it is actually proto-Mayan and Aztec. Still, it's one of my favorite fantasy films, along with those of Ray Harryhausen.
Heavens to Murgatroid! Pretty exciting! Since it's an MGM movie I hope to see it on TCM one of these days. I'm a big fan of the late great John Dall, whose last movie this was. He's best known for the film noir classic "Gun Crazy". Character actor Barry Kroeger can be seen in this trailer; he was also in "Gun Crazy"! Also in this trailer I saw the late Ed Platt...beloved by millions for his role as the chief in the cult classic 60's TV comedy "Get Smart". THANKS for posting this! CHEERS!
Agreed. M.S.T. just demonstrates a low ebb of consciousness, whereas this George Pal production is a brilliant insight into Atlantis: the precursor to Greece--a truly enlightened civilization.
looks nice...
