I was stationed at Loring mid 70's to 1980. What a hell hole. Base movie theatre showed "Rocky" for 4 years. Only good memory of that base for me was the cheeseburgers at Base Ops. We even had to PAY for our meals at the chow hall which was free at every other base in the world. I was so skinny and malnourished, If it wasn't for my fishing pole, I would of starved to death. Screw Loring and all my ex commanding officers and nco's. You were all a bunch of pussies.
I was stationed at Loring 74-77, Base communications (29150). Watching these videos brought to the surface memories of those days at Loring that I had long forgotten.
Thanks John. I also was stationed at Loring. I spent my entire 4 year enlistment there, except of course Chanute, and Lackland. Have plenty of memories.
Lived in Limestone with my wife the last 6 months before discharge.Stationed
at Loring 12/67 till 07/71. Tanker crew chief 42 OMS. I will never, ever forget the winters on the flightline. Now live in Florida where its WARM.
Stationed there from 9/76 through 4/80. Except for 8 months at Chanute AFB for tech school, I spent my entire enlistment at Loring. As a Californian, I was hoping to be assigned to a base in the southwest. I was really unhappy when I got orders to Loring. Then something happened. My wife and I started our family there and made some great friends and had some great experiences.
Looking back, my time at Loring was some of the best of my early adulthood.
OMG! Thank you! Thank you for posting this vid. I was at Loring (courtesy of my father being stationed there) from 1979 to 1981. At the time he was assigned to the Detachment 1 49th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, which was at the southern end of the runway. I would go to the FIS hanger on his days off and watch the 52s launch. They were truly awesome birds to see in person as they struggled off the ground. But, they always made it. Again, a big thank you from this Air Force Brat.
