  • England is the greatest power in the world

  • this can get us our british empire back lmao!!!

  • @leonwiganer ill be suprised if we get half that, i think there planning to always have one, have the ocean helicopter carrier and have one carrier in dock at all times, shame though.

  • Finally there building them. Cant wait to see it launched out of drydock to be handed over to rn. Guess the argies have got 7 years to invade the falklands viabley.even then good luck with the typhoons there

  • Amazing, but is there any way you can get a HQ version as that would really make it amazing

  • they have re-designed the deck now there will be no ramp, can't wait until it is built its is going to be a amazing ship

  • @mrshitslap1 to accomodate the f-35's?

  • @threadgoldc think so they will be using the "sling shot" like the uss nimitz

  • Brilliant video! I keep watching this film. It is amazing! I am 77 years of age and I wished I had the brain-power to create such a video. I am of the old school and still proud of my country!

  • why does this new class of aircraft carrier need an ugly ramp?

  • @PhillyKid07

Ramps work better for take off.

  • JOIN THE NAVY!

  • @leonwiganer i don't think so

  • FLOATING WHITE ELEPHANTS WITH NO PLANES...BIG DEAL!!

  • Nice ships, but unfortunately they will have trouble equipping them with the maximum number of planes, since the recent announcements of cutbacks in the military budget.

  • @ericartwo1

The F-35 is developed to replace several former types as F-16, F-18, Harrier etc. So it must be developed to be a "can do all" and this contents always compromises to reach this goal. The f-35 promised more than possible and as told, it will reach the UK Forces at 2018 and when will the QE class enter service? So which plane in meantime will be used? The QE is much too big and expensive to run, it is tactically too big for the UK efforts and the F-35 is not the best choose. :-)

  • @Seydlitz1971a How can I explain what I do not know. These ships are of superb design but r not yet finalised. The CVF will receive F35s eventually bearing in mind that months of planning, designing & development takes a long time before these ships r commissioned. Then they are equipped, the crew trained, ships facilities tried & tested and they will be a long time b4 they bcome operational.

I cannot answer as to the immediate future xcept our Harriers r 2 b scrapped.

  • @ericartwo1

Taht a dogfight will be superfluos is a fairy tale wich developers tell since 50 years with changing reasons. Fact is that it will be part of any airfight in future, no matter which technical developments are available. Speed is very important for all planes in fighter use, because intercepting and fight against enemy fighters. If you take a look on the practical use of naval planes until today, they will have rarely fights on sea, but being used against enemies on land.

  • @ericartwo1

look against what and whom carriers and their planes are used in the last 50 years and what missions they had. They will clash toghether with enemy fighters based on land much more as with enemy carrier planes. The major mission for any carrier is the rule of a swimming airfield for land war matters and the support of the ground troops as the protection of them against enemy airforces as well. The F-35 will be bsurely better as the Harrier, but the same unchanged rules are there.

  • @ericartwo1

Missions like the Falklands, Afghanistan, Iraq are what will be the battle ground for the QE-class and Britain lacks much of amphibious possibilities. Looking only on the big luck they had at Falkland and the trash they Roayal Navy was forced to use, a carrier like the Wasp class + something like a MEUSOC is what they need. THe F-35 could be a Harrier replacement, but not more and be sure that a Eurofighter in naval version as fighter is more usefull as the F-35 for the QE class

  • @ericartwo1

There are always things which will never change and at the F-35 there are much things more than questionable. The Speed of only Mach 1.6 is for a fighter / interceptor too slow and speed is important to reach a target, e.g. as interceptor for which the F-35 should be used too. Also the only 4 internal weapon stations are much too low to be effective for ground support with bombing. So there could be weapon stations made under the wings, yes, but then the Stealth capability is gone.

  • @Seydlitz1971a High speed is not essential for Naval jet-fighters. Their main purpose is to protect the fleet from in-coming enemy bombers. These two CVF's will be surrounded by ships with a variety of missiles to meet any enemy plkanes or missiles.

  • @Seydlitz1971a Future fighters are now identifying targets much further away and therefore do not need guns. The function of future fighters is to identify 'enemy' using stealth, fire/launch missile & get out of the way.

  • These carriers are superb and years ahead of any other carrier in its design! Financial restraints will delay the completion of HMS 'Prince Charles' but both ships will be ready in time to receive the F35's. They are the envy of the world especially the Yanks! Their latest carriers will still be behind technologically! The USN have put angled decks and steam catapults on their ships but the jet-fighters are VTOL. Crazy Yanks!

  • @ericartwo1 Sorry you are wrong F35 for USA are not vstol and the 2nd carrier is Prince of Wales (we dont have one called Prince Charles thank god) US carriers will be far superior so dont be silly!

  • @semperfidelis677 Am pleased u replied! Lost a lot of data from my PC and was unable to respond to ur comments. My PC is like me, old being 77 years and suffering from a severe cold and chest infection, I have not been able to devote time for 2 weeks.

I deliberately stated, "Prince Charles" to see if anyone was awake! Can u guess why?

  • @ericartwo1 Ref. Prince of Wales, I too am almost old enough to remember the other one (in fact I lost my uncle on her, he was a Chief Yeoman) Let us hope that if this new POW ever gets commissioned her career will be longer than her forebare!

  • @semperfidelis677 The latest news which I have read, is that the French Navy will share responsibility for POW both financially and manning. They cannot afford to build a new one themselves! What people do not know is that these ships were planned over 15 years ago. There r meetings, planning, drawings, designs taking place over many years. Once established, finance is next problem & u cant start a project without finance and then u have 2 have funding b4 starting building!

  • @semperfidelis677 I especially quoted "Prince Charles" as I believe that France may well buy the POW. They have scrapped plans to build a "new nuclear-powered" carrier. They may well inter-twine the French and Royal Navy, who knows what the future holds. We have a history of building magnificent ships during the last 50/60 years but did not install modern weapons as they become outdated very quickly. Remember the Falklands War when we stopped at the US base en route 4 US missiles 2 b fitted!

  • @ericartwo1

The 1 plane which can do everything and replace many other planes is a fairy tale ... and the F-35 is a very expensive fairy tale at least. As told, the only 4 internal weapon stations are rediculous, because they will need weapons under the wings for ground attacks and so Stealth is away. Also Stealth itself is a fairy tale, think about the Serbs who saw the F-117 and why? Because Stealth is only at X wave radars and this are more and more replaced. The F-35 is outdated too now!

  • catapults on a carrier are a big advantage, F35 will not be necessarily vtol, and catapult allow the use of F/a18 and interoperability with other NATO fighters like Swedish Sea Gripen and French Rafale.

  • To be honest, this class is rediculous in many terms. A) the Queen Elizabéht is build straight for reserve with no catapults put on it! B) The F-35 will be ready for service in 2018, long after 1. carrier is ready! C) Britannia rules the seas is long over, so which deeper sense D) What GB needs is more a carrier like the Wasp class with amphibian abilities in all strategic and tactical matters. E) the F-35 has much minus points as plane too

  • @Seydlitz1971a Well said, at least someone else can see the flaws in this outdated idea regarding a navy we cant afford>

  • @semperfidelis677

    Thanks! :-)

Britain surely needs 1-2 new carriers, but others than QE class. as told. But beside this, the F-35 is also a bad decision at least, no matter STOVL or not. Too slow as interceptor / for dogfight, too low fuel inside, and only 4 internal weapon stations. It is STEALTH, yes, but outlaid for a radar system which is more and more lesser in use ad 2. and 3. class possible enemies too. Also, if external weapon stations because only 4 internal = no further STEALTH!

  • @Seydlitz1971a Much of ur data about the F35 is inaccurate. It is superior to any other fighter in speed and stealth. U do not know its future weaponry as it is classified! Dog-fights r outmoded! The JSF is being developed by two of the world's finest engineering companies. Wot qualifications do u have to criticise this modern concept of engineering! Like Semper... u r out of touch!

  • @ericartwo1

Dogfights will never be outmoded, because they are essential part of airfight. it is only a question how it will change with which demands caused by technologies. The developers / industry always tells us such fairy tales, remember only e.g. the old F4 Phantom and that she entered service without a gun, becuase developer told the Sparrow and Sidewinder made a gun pointless. Well, very fast the F4 got a gun installed after some experiences in Vietnam and at other places / wars.

  • @Seydlitz1971a Yes everybody forgets that should the USA decide to pull out of the F35 programme (and they just could) this would leave us with sweet F A !!! I think we went there before with Skybolt in the 60/70s.

  • @semperfidelis677 (1) We cannot afford to be without these ships.

    (2) Ur terminolgy & expression of words r juvenile!

    (3) Wot flaws can u see in the design? It is British engineering at its best!

    (4) We can afford these ships which is recognised by the UK Prime Minister!!!!

  • @ericartwo1 I didnt mention any flaw in design, the flaw lies in the tactical theory that we actually need them or can afford to man and run both, we clearly cant, that is why the government is making a botched up compromise with one probably to be sold/mothballed as soon as possible and the other maybe still too far in the future to guarentee its eventual commisssioning at all. Watch this space!

  • Liam Fox says today (19/10) that these ships will not have any fast jets for TEN Years, what a pointless waste of money ...carriers with no planes!! The RN will be a laughing stock around the world

  • @semperfidelis677 These ships will not be ready for years but will be ready in time to receive the F35s! No country builds ships of this quality in a matter of months. It is all planned in advance so that completion of the ships & F35 will coincide. The finance is already available. No country can embark on a project of this size without first securing its finance! They will be the envy of the world and it is already showing by the comments from Americans!

  • @ericartwo1 Your faith in our politicians is touching....and naive!

  • @semperfidelis677 These ships will not be ready for ten years. U have no concept in the production of such huge & strategic weapons systems, either in its development, research, upgrades and futuristic engineering capabilities. We need to build these ships so as to maintain quality production systems, engineers, designers, shipyard, etc., for the future of British Industry. God only knows how shallow you are in your thinking!

  • @ericartwo1 If you think the construction of two ships will secure the future of engineering and shipyards in UK you are living in a strange world, much of the software in the systems won't be ours anyway and the Brit. shipbuilding capability went down the pan years ago..when is the last time a Brit yard tendered for a liner? It was John Browns in1960s with QE 2.. enough said!

  • The budget due this week on 21/10/2010 will confirm the 'go-ahead' in building of these carriers! Rumour has it that they will have any of the F35's. I suppose that when needed, we can always borrow a few off America!

  • Wonder what is the purpose of having the two structural islands vs one. That would create more surface drag and radar signature.

  • @Yahaa69 The foreward island is for navigation, the aft island is for air operations.

  • @Yahaa69 Dont know, but they are bloody ugly!

  • We must have these. Plus F35Cs and E2 Hawkeyes. Got nothing against VTOL aircraft, but the F35C would give the carriers so much more punch and the E2s are the best carrier-based AEW aircraft in service if not ever. Shame the government, past and present, may not build the carriers or, almost worse, not build the proper escort ships to protect them.

  • LIKE IT.

  • To be honest i just randomly typed in cvf and clicked on the first thing i saw but not a bad video

  • Today, 26 July, 2010, on ITN news, It was officially announced that a firm order has been placed for the main section to be built at Birkenhead (Liverpool) ship-yards on Merseyside! Work will start on the Queen Elizabeth CVF! Thank goodness for that as the US Navy would have been lost without the Royal Navy to protect US Carriers!

  • @biggayal1992 Or perhaps just Seaphoon :-)

  • God save the Queen, forever,!!!

  • the royal navy didn t put the typhoon on because it cannot take off and land vertically as the f 35 can! the f 35 is perhaps not as agile as the typhoon but on the other hand it has got better technology! and no it s not an american fighter it s been built with other countries! the fighter has been concepted mainly by the americans and the birtishs and the birtishs will put their own technology on the fighter! the f 35 will not be the only aircraft onboard!

  • why would you put an american fighter on these?????

  • Work has already started on Queen Elizabeth CVF!

  • Damn its AWESOME!!! 10/5!!

  • funny though, yanks nimitz class which have been around for decades are larger and they have 12 of them

  • Comment removed

  • @sepiasilence Actually they have 10 of them, if you're going to troll then atleast troll right.

  • @rvfharrier First off, know what trolling is before using the word trying to be clever, clearly not what i was doing. Yes 10, my mistake, i was counting Enterprise and pulled another one out of my arse, get over it x

  • A great video,i must have watched it 10 times.

  • where did you get this.... amazing
