  • You're amazing and we need more women like you! I love your English accent too!

  • thank you so much Swatai and Kalya382 for your comments. I am glad you found the talk useful. I am now working on my next two talks which will cover strategies used by conservative Muslim scholars to hold muslim minds hostage to very discriminatory interpretations and why women need to and can intepret for themselves...should be up late December / early January. If there are other topics you would like me to cover then let me know. The author i mentioned on islamic feminism is margot Badran

  • Great talk, Shaista! Thank you for this! You touched on some extremely important points about (and misconceptions against) feminism. By the way, I find it very cool how you offered a definition for "feminism" when it's universally contested even among feminists themselves, but, hey, you did good - you gotta start somewhere, and you really can't talk about feminism to an audience that's got too many misconceptions against it without defining the terms in question. Keep it up!

  • This was enlightening and thank you for making this video. It's interesting, Christians often make similar arguments against feminism so your statements are also relevant for Christian feminists - I struggle with reconciling my social justice views with the popular interpretation of the religious texts I am supposed to follow.

Forgive me but I do not know how to spell the name of the author you mentioned for more information on the history of Islamic Feminism, what was the person's name?

  • It was just a reminder, nothing more and nothing less. But point stands still and tall, Women need to support each other and allow each other the rights they deserve. Well before they can expect anything from men. Husband treats his wife badly but its the MOTHER of the husband who allows this to happen and says nothing. So who is really doing wrong here? Its all well and good quoting Quranic verses etc... But Islam has never rejected Womens right but Also never rejected Mens Rights too. so chil

  • @zainy232 The man who treats his wife is doing wrong, and therefore can be expected, as a moral agent, to stop.

  • @LanceDirk Yeh you are right, but sometimes its just getting a bit too much when you realise and see that men are doing bad but its worse when women are hurting women. its depressing in a way.

  • For the person who said that i only said bismillah - you really are clutching at straws. There is nothing wrong with that. interestingly when others e.g. bearded men and hijabed women do that - i wonder if you also criticise them? Technically there is actually nothing wrong with what i did which just shows how extreme people are out there jumping on every small thing and the lack of knowledge and ignorance out there.

  • Some people have clearly not heard the talk properly and only hear what they want to hear as they have locks on their heart. Islamic feminism is not about challenging God's decision, but challenging the opinion of human beings which is open to debate. Those who claim that the words of scholars is final are scholar worshippers who equate human beings to God. There are warnings in the Quran about such people.

  • It is not fitting for a Believer, man or woman, when a matter has been decided by Allah and His Messenger, to have any option about their decision: if anyone disobeys Allah and His Messenger he is indeed on a clearly wrong Path. (36) surah Ahzab 33: 36

  • You didn't finnish you Bismillah - Arahman ur raheeeem !

women Also need to give rights to be left alone before they can expect it from other male persons.

  • @zainy232 I think they can and should expect rights from men now, though obviously it's good for them to support each other too.
