Up until 2000, if you were new to Darlington you had to take a test and qualify on the second day! It was NASCAR keeping The Lady In Black fresh in your mind!!
I looked it up. Jeff Gordon qualified in the top ten fifteen times in 1993, which is a lot. I don't get why he couldn't qualify on the first day, then. Was this just a Darlington rule?
