That´s a proper soldering? I don´t think so, this method is called COLD SOLDER and it does a weak soldering that will eventually fail, unlike the real correct method.
Someone needs to explain to all Americans everywhere that the correct way to pronounce the word 'solder' is like 'holder' with an 's' or similar to the sound in 'shoulder'.
The way you guys pronounce it makes it sound like something far more explicit ;)
@christophertelford solder with l pronounced is British English, while one without L sound is American. Check OALD = Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary.. and do your research before passing a sweeping comments.. moron
@christophertelford - "...term comes from the 14C English word sawd which in term comes from old French soldure from Latin solidare. The British may have started pronouncing the L under the influence of...French or Latin, whereas the Americans may have kept the 14C pronunciation; I wouldn't be surprised if that...[appeared] in some British dialects in the 17C. This actually seems more likely than that the Americans suddenly decided to drop the L for no good reason."
It was only a little i say tomARto you say tomAYto based humour. I think a few people may have taken me more seriously than i intended; i certainly don't do any research on 14th century pronunciation before making such jokes. Thanks for the info though.
...Wait. I'm American. BUT I SERIOUSLY DISCOVERED PEOPLE WHO CARE.
I looked it up, but it's really bizarrely obnoxious how many high-strung people try to enforce 'Solder'. I found a decent fellow who posted this on a interesting English website, and it sounds quite true, as many dictionaries seem to list one or the other (if not both root words); and it does seem to work quite well with world history.
what do you call and where do you buy the plug that does in the wall and the bit you solder at the end of the strip that it plugs/connects to?
