I don't have the dexterity you apparently do, it takes me 4 steps just to leave the elevator to the first portal. You use your hands when your alone too much.

The 2 just looks like a 7. If you watch at the beginning of the video you can see the counter go 0-1-2 and stay at 2 until it turns to 3 at the end. So '3' doesn't come after '7' unless '7' comes after '1'.

Of course, I had to try it myself after seeing that. However, I can't seem to reproduce it. After flinging myself to the end in the same manner, I come flying out of the blue portal towards the starting elevator, not the exit. How did you do that?

Yeah, it's at 2 when I jump but, I must have momentum or something because when I hit the ground, it goes to 3...So I can't figure how to stop moving in the air.

Hold backwards so that you fall into the portal with as little forward momentum as possible. The idea is to shoot a new portal when you come out of the second one so that you fall gently down to where the portal used to be, instead of using your momentum to land on solid ground on the edge of the portal.

Can't edit posts so sorry for the double but, the crouch jump isn't working for the first portal. Dunno what's up with it, I tried crouching before jumping and after. I'm stumped :\

You need to kind of crouch as SOON as possible after you jump, and you need to time your jump to be as close to the end of your first step as possible. Again, make sure you initiate the jump BEFORE the step counter gets to 2.

Wow...I can't seem to get this, how do you keep the momentum going backwards? I also can't seem to get that third blue portal in, I just go to fast...One more thing, how do you only get two steps at the beginning? I always end up with three when I land. Please help

You need to be crouching almost the entire time you're flying through the air, only standing up on your final approach towards the door to make sure the doors open. To make it out of the elevator in only two steps, make sure you're doing a crouch jump into your first portal.

Stop holding crouch on your approach towards the elevator. That will give your body enough of a profile to trigger the doors opening.

Landing with even a moderate amount of momentum counts as a "step". So does jumping, sliding, stepping on an object like a box or camera, or any number of other things. Kinda lame.

I haven't even started the challenges (except the advanced maps). So what constitutes a step exactly? If you shoot a portal beneath yourself without jumping, is your landing a "step"?
