and the male line of the harvey's in there, too. Ray, Saul and the nephews and cousins.. The Garden was right juding from the pics under Harveystone and the interview with Eva Harvey. Rare glimpse..
@Baxiguo lol.. what absolute utter nonsense..... Let England Shake, whether you appreciate and 'get' Harvey or not (it's apparent you fit neither category), is a masterpiece, it stood head and shoulders above every other nominated album. As a matter of (little) interest - your choice would have been.......?
@wartyflange Metronomy's The English Rivieira. I don't pretend its a masterpiece, there were no masterpieces this year, or any other year for that matters. Musical arguments are nonsense anyway its a question of musical education, what music you listened to growing up, the movements you were part of... we shall agree to disagree.
@Baxiguo My 2nd choice would have been English Riviera - it's a superb body of work.... but how on EARTH can you say there are no masterpieces - ever? I can appreciate when a piece of music is incredible - even if personally I don't like it very much - the same as any work of art. Sometimes appreciation of art goes beyond whether you personally like it or not....to understand the work that went in to creating it, the references, the musicianship... that's true understanding of art.
As an Attic might: On one hand technique, on the other ethos.
My fascination is anthropologic; though it's little to do with my identity I evaluate music on the basis of that I respond positively to by valence.
I'm a child of positivism and idealism, without the emergence of psychologic value my hermeneusis defaults to a rational construct of utility itself posed as the axiom and nucleus of all solute value.
There exists however an indefatigable desire for resolution of the two.
In “On Battleship Hill,” Harvey continues to address the wind as a symbol of restless, unyielding harshness. While the song references the 1915 battle of Chunuk Bair, violence wielded at the hands of men is mentioned obliquely. Instead, Harvey focuses on the shape of Battleship Hill and its piercing gusts of wind. The way she manipulates her voice on the song is remarkable, floating high above the male vocal mirror. One of the best songs she has written in her career. P. Zimmeman - glide mag <3
I think it's about the passage of time and how compared to nature humans are frail and short lived with the generations passing and nature being everlasting.

From hearing her tracks via FutureShorts videos, I'm definitely on the fence about liking this style for her or not.
