Hey Ceaser, I am a healthcare Professional: In cases of extreme ear wax, it must be removed 1-so the patient can hear, 2- In case of infection, there is no way the meds could ever reach the tympanic membrane. 3-The ear drum can perforate with too much pressure. you are correct as some ear wax is needed as a filter, but that is normal ear wax esp medial to the canal.
've had this done, but what they did give me ear drops to loosen the wax then shoot water in my ear to get it out.it hurts but when they are done you can hear about ten times better for about a week, mine was from instead of just cleaning outside my ears i was pushing the wax in with the Q tip.

@scrotopolis2000 well evolved to clean it out. How long does that take? And are you sure? I mean if i let it go it gets really filled up even after a week or 2, and I can always hear better after I clean it myself.
@WolfeBane84 You have to clean it yourself, otherwise your going to an ear doctor to have them scoop out globs and globs of nasty ear wax. Hense the reason, Qtips and ear cleaning hooks
@scrotopolis2000 how exactly do our ears clean out the wax on their own? If it's a nice natural method I may just stop buying Q-tips. Sometimes, I feel like I push more wax in than I take out.
@ScopedOUT2 The skin of the ear canal slowly moves to the outside, taking the wax along with it. The risk with Q-tips is exactly that: they push in more wax than they remove.
@aajaray how did it feel afterwards? I mean do you hear things a lot better? Did they remove that liquidity thing like the video? Why did you have to do it initially?
@superduperboyx yes, my left ear feels a lot clearer. I think I had so much wax inside it, that it was even hurting to turn my head. It was impacted in my tube. But he also cleaned out right ear that didn't need cleaning - caused a lot of discomfort + deafness for a few months.
I did it initially cos of a huge amount of impacted wax. I dont know what it looks like - so cant say about the liquidy thing. be warned though - the vacuum is really really really loud. A hood wouldve been better.
Thank you scrotopolis for sharing this informative video on ear microsuction and cleaning! I have had this procedure done on my ears many times by my ENT Doctor, and it is nice to see a video of the procedure being done.
Well of course. If there's so much wax that it impedes the main purpose of the organs the ear wax serves then clearly it's time to do something about it.
My point earlier was that you shouldn't remove ear wax from non-visible parts in the ear simply because you think it's nasty.
Ear wax is very important for the ear otherwise it wouldn't create it; but you're correct. Too much ear wax can impede hearing and can sometimes cause infection. There's a happy balance.
I just had an ear cleaning done today. However, it was nothing like in this video. They used what looked like a spray bottle squirting into the ear. And then a little plastic cup type thing where the ear could drain into.
They got a lot out, but I could tell they were not done yet. They cut it short due to time. They didnt verbally say this to me, I just picked up on signals and words between the MedTech and MedStudent and later, the doctor. Should I feel satisfied? I feel like not 100% done.
no you shouldnt, and basically you can do the same thing that they did by yourself it's not a big deal you just use mid temp water and squirt the water with normal pressure you have better control because you do it to yourself and can feel better of what's going on that's the way i clean my ears dont get riped off by doctors for something simple that everyone can do
it would scare me... what if the doctor lost his balance and fell forward? what if there was an earthquake?

why do we have ear wax
ceaserthekiller5 1 year ago 14
@ceaserthekiller5 - it comes from specially adapted sweat glands in the ear canal.
It traps dirt and dust particles and stops them from remaining in the ear canal. It also has mild antibacterial properties.
The ear canal is well evolved to clean out its own wax so don't worry about having to remove it yourself.

@scrotopolis2000 when i was a kid i thout that ear wax was brain poo
jacarandas98100 1 year ago
@scrotopolis2000 Except in cases like myself where you over under-active gland and get a build of extremly hard dry wax. que-tips are usless lol

brakspbfun 2 years ago
cleaning the inside of your ears is bad yes; cleaning the visible outside though is fine.
Ear wax actually serves a purpose. That's why it's bad to have none.
Radjehuty 2 years ago 4
i never have earwax because i clean my ears.
"That's why it's bad to have none." how so?
lutherhans 2 years ago
Because ear wax serves a real function. It's a line of defense from infection entering in to the ear.
Radjehuty 2 years ago 32
The guy in the video probably had enough wax to affect his hearing.
HattieLovesCattie 2 years ago 2
yeah but if yo have so much ear wax in your ears you can't hear then it's time to get it checked out.
