@xCelsius451x - it is a blowhose, essentially a tube connecting him lungs to the end of the blowpipe, so he can do the work of an assistant, without an assistant. It is one of the hallmark innovation Bill Gudenrath brings to the contemporary glass world.
Thank you for posting the series of videos. I have found them truly fascinating; the craftsmen make their craft look so easy, no doubt the result of years of practice. Their dexterity and ability is a real pleasure to watch. Ive had a lot of fun producing some lump cast items and some moulded panels in a homemade 3kW kiln but your video makes me want to build a bigger kiln. Thanks again for the posting.
its annoying how this whole place is automated and one person is used for the entire thing. i think the fun of glass blowing is having someone there to admire your work and to talk to. this seems so quiet and boring.
yeah man, it's all about the mojo. The more people the better. our hotshop is always hoppin' and the stereo is always goin. I think the work is usually better in that kind of atmosphere too.
i agree with that. i think that having someone admire what you did is nice. plus, its nice just to have someone to talk to.
hell yeah! thats what ours is like too! we never have too little assistants. we have about 10 people who just hang around and if we need another assistant, we yell, "help! need someone to paddle!" or something like that.
this is Bill Gudenrath, he's famous for being a really really really good solo blower. honestly his techniques(and his cups) are flawless, regardless of how many people it took to make it.
(and he's usually jammin out with his headphones on)
oh man he is amazing but I just find it more fun and a little less stressful to blow with a team. I mean, sometimes its nice to blow alone but i prefer team blowing
I blow glass solo and LOVE bill and his unbelievable skills!

Gudenrath is a solo gaffer, he has optimized alot of procedures for individual work. like the museum said its his trademark basically.

say what you want, but thats Bill Gudenrath. the fact that he works alone is what makes it so amazing that he makes what he makes
arcaneart124 3 years ago 3
he's definitely an amazing glass blower but its just alot more interesting to blow with something.

@arcaneart124
blowing stuff like this solo IS awesome, but lets fae it, blowing solo is odd behavior. cool behavior, but atypical.
