  • Not Colorodo, ColorAdo: alpha, acting, aspergers...

  • Next time hike PIKES PEAK...the author of the song AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL wrote that song up on top of the mountain KATHRINE E. BATES...great history there. On top of the mountain is a little shop to buy souviners, and also a resturant. You can drive up there, cog train which is very expensive i think its like 25.00 a ticket, hike or bike ride up there!!!

  • Great video. I went to Colorado for the first time in June. And, I felt like I was coming home.

  • Fantastic pictures and a totally fascinating story behind them. Great video and tune too. Thanks for sharing.

    Angela :)

  • Nice Vid and Photos Mattew. I like the shot where your standing infront of "the ships prow"at 0:50. I have been up that route - theres a backcountry rescue hut I stayed in right there. As a both a climber and a guy from the 70's I really like this vid. Nice bit of work -thanks posting it.

  • @Hans4Babs I didn't even know that there was a rescue hut there. This particular climb was unsuccessful, but I did successfully summit Mt. Elbert this summer. That was an absolutely awesome experience! I left a summit register up there.

  • @matthewjdenn

Matthew - its VERY hard to see - its built of local stone so it blends in very well. I was up there with some friends who were rangers - hence access to the hut.

Most people know of Longs as a "walk-up" but the Diamond Face is the largest alpine face in the world.

Arent the 14'ers of Colorado incredible? when ever I get out there on business, I bring my climbing gear and sneak off for a few days. In march I was in Ouray to do Ice

  • @Hans4Babs Yeah, the mountains of Colorado are phenomenal. It's a divine experience climbing the 14'ers of Colorado. I got altitude sickness at the top of Mt. Elbert when I was there last time. I took some Excedrin. That seemed to help. Where is Ouray?

  • @Hans4Babs Yeah, the mountains of Colorado are phenomenal. It's a divine experience climbing the 14'ers of Colorado. I got altitude sickness at the top of Mt. Elbert when I was there last time though. I took some Excedrin. That seemed to help. Where is Ouray?

  • @Hans4Babs I love Colorado. I left the University of Denver to study abroad in Australia. Once I get back I am never going to leave again. Colorado is God's country and I truly miss it. I lived at the base of Pike's Peak my whole life and i can't wait to be home and hike up into the mountain.

  • I wish you good luck and great fun on Mt. Elbert this spring. tons of snow up there and it is STILL snowing at my home as I type this. I'll stick to independence Pass, tyvm where at least I am looking right at the summit of Mt. Elbert (I posted a video of me, totally unprepared, walking out to the overlook at Indep. pass-was coooooollddd)!

  • Fantastic video, Matthew! I admire you for attempting to climb ANY of our mountains here. Highest I have been is on top of the upper ski bowl,Peak 8 at Breckenridge Ski resort! John's song is my all time favorite song. Hope you come back and hey, you can drive or take the cog railway up Pikes peak-lol :)

  • Thanks for your comment, cocatwoman7. I am planning on coming back this spring. We slept overnight late last summer in 2009 at about 13,000 feet on the side of Mt. Elbert but weren't able to make it to the summit unfortunately because we were running out of water, there was no snow to boil, and we almost froze the night before in our tent. We plan on coming back in the spring of 2010 in May or June and day hiking Mt. Elbert with less weight. We carried about fifty pounds last time!

  • Matthew, what an awesome video of the Rockies. I was in Denver over the Christmas holidays, but was only able to get to Red Rock. That was magnificent. All these red boulders that are millions of years old that formed an arena naturally. Hundreds of performers have been there including John. He said that he wish he could have all his concerts there because the acoustics are perfect there. Wow, all form by Mother Nature. I want to get back to Colorado to see more of the Rockies.

  • I've never been to Red Rock myself. I've only been to Colorado twice, as I'm from Wisconsin. I took these pictures in May of 2007 as a senior in college, and I came back this past August of 2009 to attempt a summit of Mount Elbert near Leadville. We camped out at 13,000 feet but we weren't able to make the summit the next day because we were running out of water. You can check my profile for that video. Just do a search for, "Mt. Elbert." Thanks for watching!

  • CLIMBING LONGS IN 2 WEEKS! STOKED!! sweet song

  • Respect Long's Peak. One person dies on this mountain on average every single year. Everything above the Boulder Field is extremely dangerous.

  • ill respect it while we smoke a victory blunt at the peak.

  • I'm just trying to let you know about the dangers, man. Good luck. Oh, and if you need to go to the bathroom there is a solar toilet near Chasm Junction.

  • Great video. I climbed Long's Peak a few years ago. It was a great catharsis to narrowly missing the summit of Ranier a couple years prior. At the camp near the base of the summit it was our party plus a group of 3-4 college kids. I remember they had a guitar and I played "I Guess He'd Rather Be in Colorado," another JD classic. It was too cold and my fingers too stiff to attempt Rocky Mountain High.

  • great video matthew!! great song too!

  • Thank you.

  • Loved your video. Although I visit RMNP several times a year, I've never climbed Long's Peak, but always end up with MANY pictures of it. JD's music, like no other, captures the majesty and beauty of the Rockies. It always accompanies me throughout the trip. Hope you can go back again, and enjoy all the wonderful mountain hikes in the area. Thanks for posting!

  • Thats an awesome song an awesome pictures too. What a landscape! Someday I will be there! Thank you for sharing and Greetings from Europe!

  • Thank you. It was an absolutely breathtaking vista. This area of Colorado is phenomenal. I am thinking about making another video with some more pictures I took from the mountain climbing trip, so stay tuned.
